3:13 Facts, Hip-Hop universe is really dope at the journalism and presentations. As a younger hip-hop fan, I really enjoyed the beef analysis series especially the beefs in the 90s since I wasn’t around at the time. Just the way he puts together every song, interview, and event associated with the beef chronologically was educational for me.
I know you probably won't reply but I would appreciate if you do. Also I'm not a Kendrick stan so you can't come at me with that "fanboy" shit 1. Kendrick doing that "migos" flow isn't anything bad, even if he's "artsy fartsy" rapper that doesn't mean he can't try other flows as well, that's the dumbest argument something that a 4th grader would say. Not to mention that he's not even doing it the same way. And Kendrick been going music before Carti how is he copying from him? Make it make sense. 2. Artsy fartsy rappers don't bring anything new to the table? Umm.. earl, billy woods, roc, even Tyler? Rap ain't had anything so unique in years. From the beat selection, to the lyrics, the flows, to the aesthetics. Everybody's been biting Earl and Billy's flow, but you ain't gone mention that. Tell me one artist from the 80/90s that has the same beats as Earl or billy. 3. Kendrick is one of the most influential artists to ever exist and I'm not even that big of a fan. Not only that but also one of the most artistic in their approach 4. A$AP didn't crate that psychedelic and weird sound it was spaceghostpurrp 5. Freddie situation, kinda agree
I don't see what's so unique about Tyler the creator. He's an eccentric hip-hop artist but his production ain't anything special. I'd go on argue some of it is borderline garbage.
@@ralissedarysv24971. Dumbest argument ever. So you saying K dot is only using this flow, nothing else? And isn't his lyrics better than migos'? Also aren't other people copying Kendrick's flow as well? 2. How are Earl or billy watering it down? They literally did stuff that no one has even imagined, are y'all deaf? So a song should be hip hop to be dope? Also it's not hip hop, hip hop is the whole movement, rap is the music. 3. A lot of people. Not only Keem, and to be honest Keem also inspired and produced a lot of k dot's music. Every second artist is saying Kendrick inspired them to do music. 4. He did perfect it tho, I should've worded it better, I meant to say that purrp directly inspired Rocky, and instead of him saying "oh purrp gave me this flow" he's lying, acting like he created it, so if this dude hates lame rappers why isn't he hating rocky? And again, Kendrick is not stealing shit Btw don't know who's Clams Casino, bout to check him out
You were right about Gibbs bro the dude moves very corny . I use to fuk with him when he first came out with madlib and I enjoyed a few of his other projects but I cant stand when rappers who are 40 years old with kids trying to still act like a young street dude.
this is what I'm trying to say: he moves corny because his music is flimsy. He HAS to put his name out there because the music won't do it. His music alone is so sleepy it can't get attention. he has to clout-chase.
Weak album but we gotta give Kenny his props for We Cry Together, at least we got an entertaining story out of this even if it took 5 years to write 😂😂
“i cant please everybody.” great video with some valid critiques, but i don’t agree with the idea that just because you find something corny, that makes it corny. everyone has an opinion and everyone has preferences bro. some people are dealing with the same shit that kendrick is talking about on his album and thats why they enjoyed it. at the end of the day its different strokes for different folks my man. i also don’t believe that every rapper has to reinvent the wheel in terms of sound. they just have to make a better version of the wheel. yes innovation drives the game, but its about what the people love at the end of the day. if you’re gonna criticize kendrick, why even mention drake in this video like he hasn’t taken flows from several artists, or asap rocky like he wasn’t influenced by that same memphis sound that you also mentioned. those rappers that you consider “original” and “influential” also took from the game. you kept bringing up the migos like they are still doing numbers, but clearly that isn’t the case and the reason is because they weren’t able to keep up with the game, even if they was the ones that modernized (they did not create the triplet flow; im sure that you know bone thugs had been doing that many years before) the flow in the first place. still a great video bro. peace and love.
@@ralissedarysv2497 Sorry bro can't hear it. With all due respect I think you guys are reaching a little bit with the Migo flow. The song or flow is nowhere like walk it like I talk it. Only because he said 30? Times take off in the first verse you guys think he bited Migos flow
@@ralissedarysv2497 i completely agree bro. drake is a more versatile artist. thats why he will go down as one of the greatest ARTISTS ever (imo), and not just as a rapper. however, i don’t really see the issue with copying a flow several years later, especially when its improved to a degree. i feel as though thats just a means of delivery, and that we should value some of the lyrical content as well. its a valid critique but calling the whole album trash because of a similar flow is a bit harsh, no? still love your perspective tho and i appreciate the comment.

Honestly I could never understand why ppl like Kendrick so much. I can’t stand his voice or flow. Not saying he’s trash because maybe I’m just missing something but nothing I’ve heard him on “moves” me at all. And to be clear I’ve been a hip hop connoisseur since 1998. Maybe it’s just not for me or maybe he’s popular to entry level new rap listeners who just started listening to rap music in the last 5 years. Casual rap listeners. I don’t know maybe I’m wrong but I just don’t get it.
Kendrick is very entry level as far as lyrical rap goes for modern hip hop. He's got safe music on GKMC. TPAB had a bit more risks but there were a lot of entry level songs on there still as well.
@@user-tb9sq5po6z saying he didn’t take any risks on tpab is ridiculous. he literally made an album with no 808s, and music that u cannot even process in the first 3 listens
I saw the video Hip Hop Universe made about the sleepy album. I've seen some of his videos in the past. I agreed with most of the points. At least 1/3 of Kendrick fans are saying the album is not his best. The other 1/3 are still d*** riding. And 1/3 don't listen to him anymore. A lot of Kendrick fans were teenagers who have grown up. Kendrick isn’t wack, but he’s not near being the GOAT. I’m not looking for “not wack”. There are too many legitimately dope and creative artists out there for me to waste my time on “not wack”. That's true to a degree, what you said about Kendrick and Cole. But it also seems like you're exaggerating just a bit. To say that the copy lil pump and playboi carti is something an older man like yourself would say, it isn't true it's just a out of the loop perspective. I will agree to a degree that they borrow some of the popular rap themes, but they're still making music on a much higher taste level and Mr Morale and The Big Steppers is a solid piece of work. The rappers you're speaking of don't make solid bodies of work, they make singles. The statement may be stemming from incomplete knowledge, but what you said about Freddie Gibbs I've been saying for a long long time ever since he went on Joe Rogan and bragged openly about shooting a man.
What Kendrick fans don’t understand is while he may be talking about some certain deep topics (in reality he really isn’t, it’s all a word salad), the music sounds like shit on this album. Nothing from this album makes me want to go back and listen and I’ve given the album a full 4 listens.

To be on a positive note, I thought his pen stepped up. Father Time is a nice track definitely. I can say sadly I relate to mother I can be sober through family members so upsetting people go through this stuff. I like that track. A few more. Freddie Gibbs; you were 100% he’s a clout chaser every time he gets ready to drop something it’s always beef or something
I think he made some great points. I like the album slightly but he's spot on with some of the stuff he says. And he does love kendricks previous albums too so he has a say in it imo. Not hating but i think I'd rather listen to someone who actually gets kendricks music say why he thinks the new album is trash.
essentially you want to hear the opinions of people who are less critical of Kendrick than I am. Just say that. instead of pretending I don't get it. lol
@@tochiRTA you don't get it lol. you want to call every kendrick fan a casual and you can't handle the fact that people may have a different opinion than you.
@@ralissedarysv2497 you make a good point and I agree. I wouldnt even be commenting but the thing that annoys me is this tendency to present an opinion as a fact and call a fan of an artist a "casual" if you don't like them. And the at the end of the day it's all preferences, and it annoys me when I see people like tochi saying stuff like "casuals like to put him on a pedestal where he doesn't belong" or "it's all a marketing scheme" or whatever "kanye is a backpacker fraud" thing he's on about. Like, let people enjoy the music. And if you don't like the artist you really don't need to make a thousand videos on them explaining why they're trash, we get it. To me it seems like he's making these kendrick comparisons again and again because he knows negativity spreads more. Id rather see someone make videos about dope underrated artists that need recognition rather than taking about the same artist who they think is trash and trying to convince the viewer why they're trash without going into the specifics (which is ironic because he's always rambling on about how critics nowadays don't give a reason as to why the music is good or bad.) But then again i don't blame him because I'm sure he has better things to do lol. Anyways, just let people enjoy the music and spread positivity is all I'm saying.
I did what Kendrick's stans suggested and suffered through the album a second time. What bothers me more than anything is the narcissism and self-justification he indulges in. All of the "God is the source and I'm the plug talk" is straight from Kanye's manual. Wack. My man, you made the comment that Kendrick's style is based on begging for awards. That was some insightful shit. Kendrick is clearly only interested in having a convo with the critics.
Kendricks newer album is trash i agree and mathematics by mos def is the best rap song ever. J Cole has some good lyrics just super boring flow. Johnny's P's Caddy with Benny is literally the only Cole song I would bump. The rest of his music is for white casuals.
Hip Hop Universe was pretty spot on with his analysis and yet the people in the comments can't take it wish we could see the dislike bar to see how many people hated on his opinion. Also did you hear the 50 second snippet on twitter of the Logic track produced by Preemo that's coming out this Friday? I'm not a Logic fan and the lyrics are meh but the beat is pretty solid. Wish Jay Z or Nas would rap over it as the beat is better than any beat on Kendricks album.
ICL I feel like "Lil Pump" and "pushing the needle" should not be in the same sentence...I agree that the "soundcloud era" changed rap, but it wasn't specifically Pump that pushed that needle, he was just one guy, and he was mediocre asf as a rapper. Drake also hasn't been rapping on ambitious production in like...ages. He's been rapping on sleepy beats for years for the most part, I think 2015 was the last year he had serious hype music. Rocky could push the needle with his new album, I mean there's this song called "PCP" that sounds amazing production wise. Start of this th-cam.com/video/piIQ0KZf1-A/w-d-xo.html
LOL. I totally agree. Lil Pump is not an innovative artist by any stretch of the imagination. he's cookie cutter. What I was trying to say is that Kendrick is imitating cookie cutter rappers like the Migos and Lil Pump. You could argue that Migos kind of brought a new flow to the game even though it's watered down. But that's my point. Kendrick is relying on the cookie cutter like Migos/Lil Pump to give him flows/beats for his songs. It's crazy.
Hip-hop Universe are a bad channel though. Their worst rappers list included Rocky, they're very ignorant. Granted they changed their mind but - they said it was because he makes unique "trap" music. "TRAP MUSIC"? Rocky? They waffle a lot bruh
@@ralissedarysv2497 Yeah but the issue is the amount of research they did when making that list didn't seem to be good. Rocky's strengths as a rapper are his flow and delivery, and his ability to adapt to all sorts of hip-hop production. Of course lyrically he's pretty weak, but I think this is mostly by choice because he has delivered good lyrical verses in his career (mostly on features) and when you hear his interviews he seems pretty articulate and grounded. He probably freestyled most of his lyrics on his first mixtape and he can get away with saying mostly nothing because he's got a good flow. I think that in itself is a talent.
That video was pretty funny. Pretty much what you always said. For Gibbs, I’m not surprised because he moves in a corny way so he gets what he asks for

@@tochiRTA Yeah. Hip-Hop has plummeted rapidly since 2000. In the late 80s early 90s , that was a short time period when hip-hop had balance. If you wanted to listen to party music you had that. Let's be honest about Kendrick here. Most old heads and or rap fans who really love the 90's and early '00 era have a love/hate relationship with Kendrick. They love him cause he brought back storytelling/creative concepts back to the mainstream on a global level, so its not hard for them to rock with Kendrick as the leader of the new school but on the flip side...they hate the fact that a rapper from the 2010s makes music on par and in a lot of cases better or more creative/unique music than the greats of those eras while having very successful tours, record breaking sales and winning awards. Now that people are saying he has one of the best discographies in hip hop/music. The old heads or 90s/early '00 enthusiasts feel the need to hate on MM&TBS or call it "mid" and I'm sorry but... I'm not buying it at all. The concepts/content are great and instrumentally/sonically more layered and intricate. On top of that the songwriting is catchy and has a ton of replay value this part is not an opinion its a fact. This is a more catchy/replayable rap album than any other mainstream rap album from last year and this year so far. All this "mid talk/trash talk" is cap and this "the songs get old fast talk" is also cap. N95, Die Hard, Rich Spirit, Father Time, Purple Hearts, Count Me Out, Silent Hill, Savior, Mr. Moral and even Mirror aren't "mid" and none are "trash." They are all catchy or decent to great songs. The albums dope because it's artistically layered thematically, with a few different themes going on, with great lyricism and delivery. We Greive Together Father Time Worldwide Steppers We Cry Together Mother I Sober Auntie Diaries are all great hip.hop songs with great lyricism. Kendrick uses a lot of different flows on there. I was never even a big Kendrick fan but he's no doubt a great MC Once you get over the bias of him and listen youll see
The beats are awful on literally every song you listed. Once the beat is ass it's very hard for even good vocals to save a song. There's no way you really think United in Grief is a good song. That song is vapid as fuck, and fast rapping does not equal good rapping. The song lacks a distinctive rhythm which destroys replay value. The lyrics do not matter significantly when you're replaying a song over and over. It will hit you when you hear it the first or second times, but after that when you're listening to music casually it will no longer matter in many cases. Father Time is decent but it's nothing special.
this is just word soup. like ok its layered. im sure people got that. but if people are not feelin it for other reasons tf does it being layered have to do with anything. this channel might have a bunch of biases i dont agree with, but kendrick has been a favorite of mine for a while and I was not feelin the album. then when you say that people just assume youre a hater, or tell you you need to listen to it 400 more times to get it, and if you still dont feel it, its just not for you, and they say its experimental. which...i dont think people know what experimental means anymore. slightly annoying honestly.

Kendrick Lamar did actually change the game in terms of lyrics and this is actually something that can't be refuted lol yes conceptually speaking if you look at hip hop albums/mixtapes after 2012 whether underground or mainstream Kendrick's style is all over the place even in you're favorite artists like A$AP Rocky's 2nd album (look at the music video for "everyday") or even just look at the title of Drakes NWTS/IYRTITL.................they tried being deeper but you can see Kendrick's influence. Musically speaking he has a technique of a schizophrenic type of flow that kinda trended for a bit during the mid 2010s but that's about it. Personally lyricism & musicality are equally important to me so Kendrick obviously loses point in one area but gains it in another.
But you're wrong about kendrick. His 1st album sounds unique. After that he may of borrowed flows. But like Socrates said, " A wise man can play a fool, a fool can't play a wise man". Migoes can't rap like kendrick, but kendrick can rap like them

I get that everyone has a preference for different beats and its subjective at the end of the day. but objectively speaking, Kendrick is an AWFUL singer and ruins a lot of songs based on his vocal delivery alone.

Also I'm not a Kendrick stan so you can't come at me with that "fanboy" shit
Not only that but also one of the most artistic in their approach
4. A$AP didn't crate that psychedelic and weird sound it was spaceghostpurrp
5. Freddie situation, kinda agree
Kid cudi made that psychedelic sound he did it before rocky and SGP and lil b plus SGP IS TRASH 🗑
Who has Kendrick influenced? Btw earl and Billy woods are trash too.

@@ralissedarysv2497 Yeah but the issue is the amount of research they did when making that list didn't seem to be good. Rocky's strengths as a rapper are his flow and delivery, and his ability to adapt to all sorts of hip-hop production. He probably freestyled most of his lyrics on his first mixtape and he can get away with saying mostly nothing because he's got a good flow. I think that in itself is a talent.

Also ik that hip hop universe channel. I'm not the biggest fan of it. The guys editing is okay but my problem is his hip hop takes. He does bad rapper vs good rapper videos and has very dumb takes on them. Like NBA youngboy trash, Tyler the creator good. Or some basic shit like that. His vids seem like hes just making them to get views more than actually having some big passion for hip hop. At least he gives props to canibus in some videos tho.
Even if he did know what he was talking about, someone of his size has to cater to casuals to maintain his channel. actual hip hop doesn’t have numbers like that
I say this as someone who has Kendrick as their top 1
It's so laughable how much Kendrick stans have a meltdown whenever people like you or HHU criticize him 💀

Never was into Pop Smoke. Im going to be honest MR. BOOM BAP this rap shyt is not in a good place . I don't see these new rappers putting out an Illmatic, The Diary, or a Paid In Full. They make a lot of NOW MUSIC., but not classic albums. I believe these new artists work will not hold up 20 years from now. Kendrick Lamar is ok. I tried to support his first couple of albums, but I just don't get the draw about him. It's a lot of industry co-signs with him and the games that's played in the process. Eminem even threw some co-sign on Kendrick's new album. See what i mean ? Sometimes this whole thing looks like one big circle jerk with these these industry rappers.
Word Pop Smoke was wack to me also.. not sure what bringing dude up regarding hip hop means lop
@@matthewrinehardt6477 you thought Pop was WACK? Please explain. You heard "Scenario" and"Dior" and thought: 'wow, this is wack". HOW?
man rap hasn't been in a good place since the early 2000s. Having lived through that Wayne/Jeezy/Kanye/Eminem bullshit, I see right through Kendrick/Cole. Been there, done that.
@@tochiRTA just not fan of dudes delivery mostly. His production is solid but content and substance wise dudes shallow
@@tochiRTA Yeah. Hip-Hop has plummeted rapidly since 2000. In the late 80s early 90s , that was a short time period when hip-hop had balance. If you wanted to listen to party music you had that. If you wanted to listen to "positive artist" you had that. If you wanted MCs with a message, you had that too. Gangsta Rap ? Had that too ? Now, you like what you like BOOM BAP, but i can't get with the Play Boi Cardis and Pop Smokes of the world . I know you don't like these 2 im about to mention, but I rather listen to The Game and Fabolous any day of the week . The crazy thing is I to those 2 dudes like that.
MM&TBS is like a 8/10 or better. I'm tired of the cap and the Kendrick disrespect.
@@ralissedarysv2497 If Kendrick made "watered-down" old school music... he would be as big as Joey badass or Yg right now lol. Stop with all that there's "no replay" value. The albums dope because it's artistically layered thematically, with a few different themes going on, with great lyricism and delivery.
We Greive Together
Father Time
Worldwide Steppers
We Cry Together
Mother I Sober
Auntie Diaries are all great hip.hop songs with great lyricism.
Kendrick uses a lot of different flows on there.
I was never even a big Kendrick fan but he's no doubt a great MC
Once you get over the bias of him and listen youll see
The beats are awful on literally every song you listed.
He's a old head, he won't understand. He wants kendrick to sound like every other rapper out and the ones before him.
this is just word soup. like ok its layered. im sure people got that. but if people are not feelin it for other reasons tf does it being layered have to do with anything.
this channel might have a bunch of biases i dont agree with, but kendrick has been a favorite of mine for a while and I was not feelin the album. then when you say that people just assume youre a hater, or tell you you need to listen to it 400 more times to get it, and if you still dont feel it, its just not for you, and they say its experimental. which...i dont think people know what experimental means anymore. slightly annoying honestly.
@@PaintedHoundie People just can't accept that a lot of hip-hop fans highly value productive value in music. It's not always about the message. Several rappers have already rapped about their struggles in older albums so it's not like it's really anything new hearing this type of content from someone like Kendrick. It's the new productive techniques and flows that push the genre forward. Really all that we ask is for Kendrick to rap on some more interesting production. Like the Mask Off beat...which he didn't do well.
@@user-tb9sq5po6z forreal ive heard every story ever at this point, the people the most impressed are people hearing the shit for the first time. like i remember someone telling me artists werent admitting to cheating like Kendrick did, and music is obviously brand new to a mf like that, because not only is kendrick not even close to being one of the first artists to be vulnerable like this, jay z literally centered most of 4:44 around his infidelity not too long ago. on top of decades+ of songs like that.
Did you see how Kendrick was ripping off ODB's style in his new N95 music video??
"weather underground or mainstream" 😂😂blud does not know what he is saying
But you're wrong about kendrick. His 1st album sounds unique. After that he may of borrowed flows. But like Socrates said, " A wise man can play a fool, a fool can't play a wise man". Migoes can't rap like kendrick, but kendrick can rap like them
You got a couple points but all in all your wrong about kendrick. He fucked the game up to the point he's competing with his self.
You should do a livestream debate with another rational hiphop fan. That would make for good content.

I can hear the Danny Brown vibe in there too. There's potential there. With the right beat and a more varied flow, dude could have something.
