I have an industrial, never had problems with it gumming up from the tape. Another good tape substitute is dritz wash away wonder tape. That’s what I use when I use my domestic

That overlay technique is how Lavender and Twine does it. It's a very pretty way to do a zipper pocket, and easy, too.

Well you don’t explain how to make the overlay!!
The overlay is usually included in most patterns. The one I use is from the rudeneja by lavender and twine. Lots of free templates out there :)
