Wow, I have that mojo comp on CD. Didn't know you could get it on vinyl. One I would mention is by Thea Gilmore (no relation!). She covered the whole John Wesley Harding album. Her cover versions of Drifter's Escape and St Augustine are my favourite of anybody, simply outstanding. I'm a bit of a Dylan covers obsessive, I have collected 100s and 100s of these songs. I even have a burnt CD that is solely 20 covers of AAT Watchtower. I'm a lost cause, lol. Thanks, Stuart
Saw a Lost Mix Tapes video where he highlighted that Emma Swift album, and I picked it up based on his recommendation. It's a really good album. I thought of it after I watched the Part 1 video posted earlier, so I'm glad to see this Part 2 video mention it.
The Sports Play Dylan (and Donovan) (1981), 10 inch mini album. A great 70's Australian new wave band, who charted on Billboard, well regarded by NME and supported acts like Thin Lizzy. Their vocalist, Stephen Cummings put out a few wonderful solo albums. Their Dont Throw Stones album is rated in Australia's top 50 ever.
I didn't realize that Chrissie Hynde had released those songs on an album. During the pandemic, she was releasing very intimate videos of her singing those songs while she walked around her home and property (I assume that's where she was.) I really enjoyed her versions. Im gonna have to find that album.
Robyn Hitchcock played at Hardly Strictly this weekend and Emma Swift joined him for a couple of songs. He did 1967 songs but snuck in And Your Bird Can Sing and Rain (technically 1966.) Speaking of 1966 Cat Power performed the Dylan 1966 set.
Something a little off the path would be the album Lost On The River where collaborators took lyrics written by Dylan during the Basement Tapes era and put music to them. Produced by T Bone Burrett and had Elvis Costello. Another compilation to check out is Tangled Up In Blue.
Meant to say.. Uncut magazine (my fav music magazine) did a similar thing with a comp CD for Highway 61. Simply brilliant. Starts with Drive-by-Truckers covering Like A Rolling Stone. What could be better! Also, The Cowboy Junkies have covered I've Made Up My Mind To Give Myself To You, on another Uncut Dylan comp CD. Thanks, Stuart
You mentioned the British music mags Mojo and Uncut. Uncut did a Dylan cover story a few years back, and they put together a Dylan covers CD comp for the issue that was called "Dylan...Revisited". I think it was around the time of the "Springtime In New York" Bootleg Series release. I think all of those songs were new recordings, so they didn't compile older cover versions by artists. The Cowboy Junkies did a fantastic version of 'I've Made Up My Mind to Give Myself to You', which was off of the then still fairly recent "Rough & Rowdy Ways" album. Love that version. I think the band then put it on their next album, so it is at least more widely available. Weyes Blood did a really grand version of 'Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands' on that Uncut comp. Some good stuff on that one.
Emma Swift, will be in Seattle, backing Robyn Hitchcock on the 11th and 12th at Fremont Abbey Arts Center. I'll be seeing them tomorrow and the next day in Portland.
Maria Muldaur “Heart of Mine - Love Songs of Bob Dylan” The title track, “Heart of Mine”, I think is the best Dylan cover, and that comes from someone thinks The Byrds one of the best groups ever.
Hi Mazzy. I bought the McGuiness Flint Lo & Behold album back when it first came out. I have always loved it because it had so many of the Basement Tape songs. I had copied my cousin's The Great White Wonder vinyl onto a two hour casette. It broke, as almost everything that I had on one of those longer tapes did, and Lo & Behold gave me a chance to listen to some of them again. I'd like to know your thoughts on that record.
I love the Emma Swift album. So many, many artists have covered Dylan songs, but how many have dared to tackle Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands? Great selections and great versions.
BOB is compared to either his contemporaries from the 60’s or the current chart makers But with his being awarded a Nobel Prize this all maybe beside the point
@@Beckarolla no doubt. He has turned me on to a lot of great stuff i'd otherwise never know about. Part of it too I think, is knowing his personal likes and dislikes and adjusting the scores according to ones own interests. There's plenty of bands he loves that I don't have much interest in, and vice versa.
I checked out the Emma Swift album online before taking your recommendation seriously. She has a nice voice, but these covers are labored and boring. This is tremendous? Amazing? Really? She has talent, but this isn't showing it. She took a shot but failed beautifully.
* Excuse the sweatshirt lint clinging to my facial hair. Yikes!
Thought it was an instant mole. A "new look" Mazzy
@@teckertime 😵💫🤯
Enjoyed this mini series. Well done as usual!!

Mary Lee's Corvette, Blood on the Tracks is something I like. Got that indie feel.
More Dylan covers albums! Keep going!

Blonde on the Tracks is a awesome record👍🏻
Bettye Lavette's 2018 album Things have Changed is tremendous - and its an album of all Bob covers.
I concur, one of my favorites

Absolutley adore Odetta's version of Tomorrow Is A Long Time.

Agree @EmmaSwiftsings album is so great, so are her originals.
Just today was listening to the 7” with Swift’s cover of Give Me Strength (Neil Young).
Great record Hollies Sing Dylan I bought the record in October 1969.

And of course, Ryan Adams has done a full cover of Blood on the Tracks that's not bad.

Great suggestion ✌🏼
Terrific choice of songs, and terrific, graphic design, making the most of the LP format once again.

Well worth a part 2!
@@michaelpdawson thank you Michael. This could be a never ending series. .

Exactly ✌🏼
Garcia plays Dylan is a great comp but as it stands I think it’s only on CD
BOB is compared to either his contemporaries from the 60’s or the current chart makers But with his being awarded a Nobel Prize this all maybe beside the point
Great cover on that Emma Swift album. Your recommendation is appreciated.
Hi Mazzy -try Joan Osbornes the songs of bob dylan -an excellent album👍
Have that on CD. Really good one ✌🏼
I gotta show some love for McGuinness-Flint Lo and Behold.
Yes! Bob Christgau turned me onto that one. I don't think it is quite as good as he thinks. but it's a darn good album
@@grahamgreene779 xgau was often overly enthusiastic or overly critical. Always taken with a few grains of salt.

Did you call me ………………? I don’t even mind!
Kind of surprised you didn't pull Bryan Ferry. Great album.
Only have it on CD. Sticking with vinyl for this series.
I would like to recommend Gotta Serve Somebody - The Gospel Songs Of Bob Dylan. Listen to Pressing On: th-cam.com/video/Se4YBi07cWw/w-d-xo.html
I think I casually mentioned that cd in the first part of this video. See part one. 🤠
