    Good review, I got this mainly for its ability to handle Amazon Ultra HD.
    Really pleased with it, my system could benefit from better streamer, but so many coming on the market at such different price points, I'm in no hurry and this sounds pretty good for now.

    I have my Wiim connected to a Nuprime DAC via toslink. The Nuprime DAC has an incredible pre-amp section with Class A output stage with XLR balanced connections. Volume is 99 step ladder. This connects via balance XLR to a Mark Levinson power amp. I connect my iPhone via Wifi and it’s so glorious.

    Wiim has really done an excellent job with this streamer. I am powering mine with a Topping P50 and dont observe anything to complain. The app is smooth and fast, the updates are frequent, what more does one want for a living room setup. The DAC in my system is a Soekris dam 1021 with an Audiozen board.

    Thank you for our review. I bought my first back in early July and just got my second one yesterday here in the US. Imagine my surprise when the second one showed up in a new box with a picture of the remote on it and an actual remote included inside for no extra cost. Sure it’s simple but nice to see they may be including now. Was very surprised. It was bought from Amazon but between the new listing and the one a month ago there is no mention of the remote being add. Just thought I would let you know. Thank yo

    Nice and informative video. Thanks a lot.
    I’m using WiiM mini and more recently the pro, connecting to a Mytek DAC and a pair of Geithain active speakers. Most of my digital music comes from a local NAS using airplay protocol. Prior to WiiM I was using AirPort Express devices. To me the WiiM pro is an upgrade, both sonically and from a functional perspective. I’m very happy with it. And btw I noticed a difference and improvement in sound quality between mini and pro (connected with the DAC via toslink).

Am able to voice control from an Amazon Dot or from the remote to play music from Spotify (even free account), Tidal & Amazon music.Besides setting up Roon remotes on kids tablets & Chromebooks and setting up separate Roon profiles for them, this is another great set up to encourage kids to listen to music with better systems than their phones and laptops.

    Would be interesting to know if this device, as a transport, sounds comparable to the new low-cost, sub-$500 streamer options from NAD and Cambridge. Thanks for the review. Another top notch and informative video Hans, Thank YOU! I bought the WiiM mini when I had the Eversolo streamer on order, and it was backordered, easy 30 day wait. So, Amazon had their big sale day, so I picked up a WiiM Mini, and immediately bought a WiiM Pro after just a few days with the Mini, for the digital coax output for my DAC. The magic of the WiiM units, is the ten band graphic equalizer. Put a good power supply on the WiiM Pro, 5v 2.0 amp unit, I am using the ifi one Amazon sells for $69, pair it with your favorite DAC, and for a little more than $300 you have one killer little streamer.
    The WiiM Pro sounds better on my system than the Pi2 Mercury v2 streamer running RoPieeeXL via network, and I chalk that up to the built in EQ of the WiiM. And yes, I have the WiiM Pro attached to my network via ethernet, through the LHY SW-8 filtering network switch. The sound out of the WiiM, for the money, is ridiculously GOOD! I cannot see spending more money for what I would perceive as very little improvement on my system.

    I found the WiiM Pro as a streamer only (never tried the DAC) to be somewhat congested and constrained, somewhat on par with my Node 2i (as a streamer only). The addition of an Allo Shanti is a whole other story adding aire, texture, bass, soundstage depth and width, and detail on par (or even slightly better) than the Shanti powering a RaspberryPi 3+ with Allo DigiOne Signature hat. Finally found a reasonably priced worthy replacement that doesn't have all the technical glitches of the Pi and Volumio. I now have 2 of the Wiim Pro/Shanti setups and may get a 3rd while I wait for the market to bring a substantial streamer only upgrade for less than $1k

    • @michaelwright1602
      @michaelwright1602 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same experience with an ifi power supply and the WiiM Pro using the PS Audio Stellar GainCell DAC/Preamp with a vintage Sansui 4000 receiver. The WiiM sounds better on this system with this combo vs my Pi2 Mercury v2 streamer with the LHY linear power supply. The reason, in my mind, how the WiiM Pro can sound so good, is the 10 band graphic equalizer. The EQ takes the WiiM products to another level. They really put a lot of thought into integrating everything into their ap.

    I believe you are on to something with the external power supply. I bought an Allo Shanti, which literally cost $50 more than the Wiim Pro, plus shipping from France since Shantis have been impossible to find in the US. The results were simply extraordinary. I suspect there's better out there, but at what price? Note that I'm running it through a SMSL SU-9 Pro, not the internal DAC. I agree with every thing you say. I have had mine for 6 months and use an Aeries 12th DAC. I love the sound. But a warning. I have a large music collection stored on my NAS. The Pro will NOT play this in a true random fashion, as I was used to with my previous Yamaha streamer. The Pro gets stuck on areas like song "01" or "06" and will not move out into the alphabetical catalogue. It is very frustrating as this is where I like to listen a lot. I cannot see why WIIM have not been able to fix this problem. They once said in feedback that said it could only play 25 songs from a NAS supply; but they have kind of walked back on that. Very frustrating. I haver been playing my NAS catalogue today and I cannot progress beyond titles that begin with numbers. Cheers.

Question: should my approach be to infuse my three new WiiM PROs into my Logitech Media Server echo system -OR- Would I'd be better off terminating my entire Logitech Media Server based setup and go 100% WiiM ? Not sure I can run MinimServer on my Nvidia Shield PRO, however if not I'll simply run it on my Gaming PC (with 2 TB and plenty powerful for Streaming and Ripping alike). QUESTION: anyone know of a good (cheap) Remote Control option for running the Wiim app? I'm using my current cellphone, as well as my previous cellphone (now stripped down to function purely as a Whole house & Remote Control). I could buy yet another cellphone, but that would be expensive and buying way more features than I need (camera, etc.). My question is… suppose you have a tv stick such as Amazon 4K max , should it sound better with LPS? I have not tried yet

      it probably does. I expect it to give less micro judder; little ‘worm-like’ movements on the screen. And thus provide a sharper picture that is easier on the eye.

    Hi Hans, I really like this channel, I have a Wavelength Cosecant usb dac with the renumarator and would like to get rid of my laptop for a good streamer, I've tried the bluesound node but they didn't work well together, sound cutting out, I know Melco works but I'm trying to keep the price down, any ideas would be appreciated, thanks, keep up the great work.

    I purchased a Pro a month ago and thought it was OK until I realized it DOES NOT play songs from an album on my Synology NAS in track order. I googled this issue on line and found out that this problem is common. WIIM was to have fixed this problem in April 2023. As we are all aware it is now early June and no fix is in site. If the problem is not corrected by the end of the summer I'll give this piece of junk away and purchase a Bluesound Streamer

      @@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Actually ended up purchasing an Eversolo DMP-A6. Overall I do like the A6. The minor issue I have with the A6 is that the software is a bit laggy when initially loading a list of my files when using an Android tablet. The NAS sourced files are immediately on unit itself so I am good with that minor issue. I do use the Wiim's on other amps in my home.

  • @stchan8575

    Having no USB out is perhaps a deal breaker. If I’m not mistaken, connecting to an external DAC using USB would enable the clock of the DAC to be used. The clock in the Wiim Pro can’t be good due to its low price.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Using USB does indeed means that the clock in the DAC is used.It also means that the noisy power supply and clock signals in the source is likely disturbing the digital to analogue conversion, as I have explained in many videos. The best interface is the best BUILT interface, preferably on both sides of the cable.

      For the money, I certainly know of none. I use two SVS SB-3000 subs, and you could easily hook those up to my WiiM Pro with some RCA y connectors. Then let the SVS handle the filtering. I have had a few streamers through here, and the WiiM is by far the best to date on many levels. The clincher is the ten band EQ. That alone takes the WiiM to levels most streamers will never attain.

    I hate my Wiim Pro. It's a $150 paperweight. Total Disappointment. Connected my turntable per the instructions, and could only play it on a single echo. Was hoping for whole house play as promised by Wiim. After that failure, I tried streaming Amazon Music and Spotify to my Echo speakers around the house. Another huge fail. It didn't play at all. I'm shocked no one has come up with a way to play a turntable across a home network.

    How about if you output its digital SPDIF into a reclocker first, then into DAC? Examples of high end reclockers: Ladder Handel, Mutec MC3+, Audiobyte HUB. Why would I do this: to take advantage of WiiM's excellent user interface and app. I do have a feeling that even the $$$ streamers will be improved by one of these reclockers.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sure, but also reclockers come in qualities. And wouldn't it be better to start of with a streamer that has a proper digital output in stead of trying to repair a low quality output signal?
