Im trying to transfer to UCLA or USC in 2026 from community college. Risd makes you do three years even if you transfer and idk if id like rhode island. SAIC ive seen so many mixed things about and how its deteriorated over the years.
Im also a queer asian guy lol from the Bay Area trying to become a professional artist and watching your content has been like seeing myself in 4-5 years doing everything im dreaming of from LA to NYC (im almost 19). I love that you share all the good, fun, bad, ugly, and real parts. I appreciate your consistency in uploading and truly enjoy these livestream talks.
You’re super insightful and i believe that you have the talent and tenacity to figure it out and really make it in your art career. Wishing you success!!!

To me art is just expressing myself with whatever medium. My goal is to get it out there in a way that can be accessible for everyone. I think an artist who is good at that is Uzo. Her work ethic inspires me. I also want to break out of art being explained with fancy terms that only an art person would learn. My thought process for my writing about my work is for people like my parents who never finished school could understand it. My best compliment so far is a little girl saying my painting looks like her. I love when people can relate to what I make. I want people to see they aren’t alone and bring in a community.

Currently at a small canadian university in an art department that leans more into experimental/conceptual/ installation art. Been feeling a bit disillusioned by it all; Mfas, portfolios, writing grants, the exclusionary vernacular, the current cost of living ect ect. I’ve felt so frozen. Unsure if art school is a good investment for me personally. I come from a very working class community. I did an art certificate at my local college and excelled. Thought that was what I wanted to do for a living and not knowing the realities of art school/industry. Now realizing I lost sight of why I decided to pursue art in the first place. I wanted to learn more about myself and practice visual expression. I don’t want to be stuck making art that sells or strapped with debt working a service job to get by. I’ve decided I’m going back to college to get a vocational diploma. Something the ensures me a decent pay and job security. I can make my art on my time. Forever. Whenever I choose. Sure maybe I just don’t have the grit, the hustle, the mindset to be a true starving artist. I don’t care. I want time for myself. A family one day. Enjoyments in life. The ability to give back to my loved ones.

in my vision an artist would be anyone who can afford a living and do what they want to for money. Doesn't matter if u want to sculpt paint code or doodle walls down, whatever you create as an artist has value and represents your core values. do it on your terms and not with the goal of selling/changing work for someone else's vision

In the past, I had this rigid idea of being an artist which meant you had to have a day job in a creative field. After working a few years in a creative industry that completely burnt me out due to poor work/life boundaries, low pay, and egomaniac bosses/coworkers, I am now pivoting to work in a non creative field. For me, being an artist is just having an art practice and working on art no matter what your day job is. I would rather have a less stressful and higher paid day job to support an art practice on the side rather than pursue a super low paid creative day job.

I’m a composer and I teach at a small college. That’s what being an artist is to me.

i came back to a part time office job, a graphic design job, even tho i was able to afford beeing an artist. my art is not depended anymore on beeing marketable to a broad audiance, I have no preassure to pay rent and so on.
PLUS i habe a ton more impressions due to having a. job and beeing exposed to new and other themes, other than art related. best decision of my life tbh.

This was pretty timely. After getting my animation degree and applying to thousands of entry level jobs across a few years, I've given up (pls do not give me tips, I promise I've tried everything and I promise I'm ready to give up). My therapist is helping me explore my heartbreak and making are fun again instead of doing it to make money. To me, an artist at this point is someone who enjoys making art. I don't enjoy it anymore and associate it with pain and failure, but I'd like to get there again
