They put many thoughts to paper in messy, scrawled writing. they bring tools and food and stay out many days and nights beneath the canopy next to a stream. As the Artificer works, barely ever moving from their bench, the Chwinga grow comfortable, friendly even, some even going as far as climbing onto the table or eagerly inspecting small pouches of black powder. They go on imitating the old inhabitants with makeshift mannequins and magic. Leads to ghost stories. But it’s these little guys trying in vain to get normalcy
They were fascinated yet timid, but as civilisations fell and ruins succumbed to nature, they moved in. They crept through the dust and stone - finding whatever they could from the fallen peoples. For the short time I played Tomb of Annihilation my tiefling wizard actually managed to get a custom Chwinga gift of just vision rather than dark vision as he was hopelessly farsighted and lost his glasses at sea.
I used Chwinga in my game exactly like this, made them elemental spirits that sometimes just *happen* when lightning strikes the earth. They eat that which has burned, and reclaim that which has been forgotten by Man. One character got a Charm of Silver Dragons - let him cast Spirit Guardians, once, and they'd appear as long-tailed silver dragons. Used it to walk through a horde of undead invading a beach. Hastily casting the spell, Tar looked at the pond again, listening to the angry gibberish with a comically focused expression. Apparently...You have slain...a-a creature named Theodore? With your feet?" If a Gith could look puzzled, now was the time. Comprehend Languages wasn't always a perfect medium of interpretation. It was a peculiar spell for a Necromancer to equip, but it came in useful. Vengeance and Thokk now shared the puzzled expression, looking at the pond with curiosity. Tar began walking towards the pond, looking down for a slain beast. Vengeance and Thokk followed, keeping an eye on the yelling creature and watching their step. After a few moments of careful observation, Tar found the poor squished frog, cradling it in her hands. "Aww, poor Theodore." With a flourish, Tar began casting Raise Dead on the poor perished frog. Well, it's time to homebrew a race for these guys
I wish I knew how to homebrew so I could make one
This video inspired me to make my current character, a Swarmkeeper ranger with a horde of Chwinga that follow her around, that set up swinging log traps, place bear traps around and serve as comedic relief for the game. Chwinga really are great
I am putting these little creatures all over my world now! Thank you so much for showing me these!
I want nothing more then a plush of these little guys, they seem so wholesome and I want one on to be like an little elf on a shelf.
ive been using one of these little lads in my campaign since session one as a little friend of the party and it fills me with joy that this video now exists to share the true glory of my children with the world.
We need a playable race statblock for the chwinga
I love it when a person I love promotes another person I love apropos of nothing. Such wholesome, much joy
Thank you for making this year brighter with your content and your demeanor. From my family to yours : hope that you are happy and well in the coming year. Happy Yule !!
Fun fact studio Ghibli made a
Borrowers move, much better than the live one.
2:53 DID NO ONE ELSE NOTICE THE THREE ‘T’s IN SETTING
and now I know of their existence, they will be in every setting and game I come up with because I love them, thank you
Found some of these in Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign. My ranger made friends with a group of them and then one was following me for three days straight, mimicking everything I did. It was adorable.
He my familiar now, his name:
Chuck.
Over the corse of 6 minutes chwingas have gone from unknown to me to one of my top 3 favorite creatures in fantasy settings
Chwingas stole my lizardfolk ranger's ukelele, and all I got was this funny looking shell in return
“Chwinga” sounds like the set up for a “Ligma balls” type joke.
“Chwinga”
“What’s Chwinga?”
“Ch-wing-on my balls.”
well time to make chwinga into house spirits for my urban fantasy campaign
I have been looking for something to give my players pet goblin a story arc and a chwinga blessing might just be the thing I need to kick-start it. This is great
i LOOOVE chwinga, they are so interesting and cute. Having a miniature guy secretly following the party is always a good suprise.
As someone that lives in Florida, it's great to see it used as a joke all on its own as often as it is. Because it is.
These would be a great encounter to throw at a party that likes to attack everything. It's a nearly helpless curious creature that if they choose to acknowledge and not kill it might benefit them greatly.
I feel like these critters are as fascinated with us, as we are with dragons.
"Do you pee them out"
*furiously making notes* THEY DO NOW
I might need to tweak the race, but I love my chwinga wildfire Druid Twig. He doesn't talk really, so he just uses produce flame to light a candle on his head, and then control flames to make it display pictures that he uses to communicate.
"Deep sea chu-actually, no I hate that one"
Literally 10 seconds later "Underdark Chuwinga"
Fun fact! They actually made space Chwinga in the new spelljammer book set!
I'm running a Pirate themed Pathfinder game.
These guys are something that look like they could very well fit in that setting easily as little spirits. Yoinking this idea.
ah yes, the chwinga from the elemental chaos, its form is constantly perceivable and non-perceivable at the same time. It loves hugs
I knew a bit about chwinga already, and seriously regret not watching this video when it came out.
I was gonna have some form of nature spirits be in my hombres campaign and now I know what I’m using lol these guys are adorable
I played on last virtual adventure league dnd weekend, the entire Tier 1 sessions for season 10, rime of the frostmaiden. And got my first encounter to these little fellas, they are so amazing and cute, a really good GM can use them to flavor so much a story. God damm there was even one that made us all cry... Was beautiful
Swamp Chwinga that grant a charm to breath under water and to talk to alligators or crocodiles BUT NOT BOTH 'CAUSE THEY ARE DIFFERENT
complex alligator - crocodile diplomacy is ESSENTIAL to setting the tone of the world
OK, hear me out.
