TechMeOut, thanks for the video! I have been doing extensive research on these scooters over the last few weeks. I have contacted about 60 different Chinese manufacturing plants on Alibaba to check service, quality, cost. Alot of the component parts may come from the same manufacturer, but final assembly and testing is done by about 65 different companies, with different quality standards, different raw components, different product cost and shipping costs and very different service (Response time, ability to understand English, properly answering questions I pose). I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and below is what I have found: 1.) Battery: Usually 4 different brands to chose (Samsung, LG, Panasonic, and generic Chinese) NEVER buy a scooter with a generic battery! Many are not even CE compliant. My choice is the Samsung (you will pay about $10 extra for it, but it's worth it) 2.) Battery Charger: Ensure that the charger is CE compliant. I've seen generic Chinese chargers used and they heat up much faster, are NOT CE compliant, and fail prematurely. 3.) Aluminum Body: Some are anodized (protective coating) and some are not. Ensure the body has a corrosive coating! Also, some bodies are forged Alum. and some are cast Alum. Forged is much stronger than cast, but more expensive and more rare 4.) Gyro/Accelerometer Board: Ensure that these boards have a silicone overlay over the circuitry. if not, you risk short circuits due to water damage, loosening of components, dust shorts, etc 5.) Main control board: Tao Tao is a highly respected manufacturer of these boards. Try to ensure they use this type of board. Some use generic boards, stay away from these! 6.) Different Brushless Motor specs: Some use 250W*2 or 350W*2 or even 500W*2 (The wattage is for each wheel times two). Higher wattage motors have more torque, higher top speed (but prob. limited via firmware for safety). Most 6.5" models are 250W*2, most 10" models are 350W*2, and I have seen 10" models with 500W*2! But it is very rare. 7.) Accessories: Some boards come with Bluetooth and speakers, some come with remote control key fobs, some include a carrying case, wheel design varies (5 spoke, 4 spoke, Mercedes logo, IO logo, etc). Some have pretty LED lights in front, front and back, or along the wheel rim. It all depends are your personal preferences. 8.) Manufacturer certifications: Ensure the product is CE Compliant, RoHS Compliant (deals with lead in components, solder, etc), FCC Compliant (if it has bluetooth). 9.) Warranty: Some are 6 months, some a year, check what their policy is 10.) Different speed modes: Most come with 2 speed modes: Beginner (Max Speed ~ 3 MPH, Sine Wave) and Advanced (Max Speed ~ 10 MPH, Square Wave) 11.) Branding: If you see a brand name on a scooter (IO Hawk, PhunkeeDuck, Chic, CyBoard, etc.) it does NOT mean it is "better quality" Branded scooters may come with their own instruction manuals written in understandable English (Not the Chinglish on most unbranded ones). 12.) If you want to resell these scooters as opposed to personal use, you may want a "gift box" with pictures of product, etc. 13.) Wheel Size: There are 4.5”, 6.5”, 8”, and 10” models. Price goes up about $50 with each size increase. 10” scooter have inflatable tires, the rest are solid rubber. 14.) Firmware: This is the program code saved on the main control board. Unfortunately you can’t see it. It controls the algorithms that analyze the board’s sensors (speed, acceleration, angle, etc) to keep you balanced and translation and rotation. It involves a lot of physics, logic, etc. All programs are not the same! How well written the program is controls how safe the board can be (speed limits, etc) and how responsive it can be. I am working on a method to hack the code! But for now you can’t really adjust this feature. Check the above criteria to make your decision. If you follow the above criteria, you should be able to find a seller/Supplier that can produce the exact same quality as an IO Hawk, PhunkeeDuck, etc The best prices I have seen that satisfy all the above are: 6.5" = $290 (includes product cost, shipping, remote, charger, carrybag) 10" = $347 ((includes product cost, shipping, remote, charger, carrybag) Bluetooth feature will cost a few bucks more. These are DIRECT from the Chinese manufacturer/assembler, unbranded, No middle-man These prices are for quantity of one (1) sample. If you order in bulk the prices will be even cheaper. Some personal experience with getting on.. keep your weight on the back foot and in one fluid motion shift your weight over when you step up on the board. Also.. at higher speeds instead of using your foot to tweak the direction.. lock your whole body up (ankle + hip + neck) and just lean forward.. you'll find that it's a bit more stable at higher speeds and less wobbling.
Best review I've seen so far. Bought one for my daughter to use in college, and bought another for my kids to use at home. Not made of cash, just got them cheap at aliexpress.com. If you do the same, look for a seller with free shipping.

very nice video, helpful and systematic. your comments are funny too. one of the best hoverboard tutorials i've seen. you have a soothing voice and way of talking. btw though, i find riding these self balancing boards much tougher than riding skateboards. i know how to ride skateboards and i picked that up much faster. i think it's because with these self balancing boards, i keep getting the urge to "intervene" with its operation like the way i do with riding a skateboard.

if u had a diffrent hover board well it will give u like black strips to place on top of were the wheels r sooo also the lambergini one it won't roll like away fromnu also it has Bluetooth and a key which u can buy if it doesn't come with ur board
My friend owns one of these, i made it first try... never have fallen. Its basicly just like a segway, only diffrence is you dont have a steering bar to hold and turn with.
Can you do a video on which is a better value for the money between the hoverboard and the new electric skateboards? obviously, the electric skateboards are way more expensive...but it would be nice to know that my money is going to good use in either scenario.
