It was a theatrical film released in 1973 and shown mostly in revival theatres. BOILSESK cut off abruptly before the Watsons came on, and switched to RED,,RED, ROBIN.
Ray Pointer identified William "Billy" Costello as the voices of the cop and one of the audience members since clearly Jack Mercer is almost everyone else. Bonnie Poe is heard on this as the female animated voices.
Burlesque in the Great Depression (1933). These girlie shows needed some legal cover to avoid being prosecuted for the strippers having little or no cover. So, they pretended to be vaudeville houses, even after vaudeville died with the advent of sound films. 4rh rate musicians, songs, dances, and styles 30 years out of date, and indifferent talent scraped up from the bottom of the show business barrel, gave a legal (and cheap) presumption that the strippers were just part of a rather racy show, rather than the whole point. Really, people only came to see the girls, but this would be hard to prove in court. The fleischer crew obviously hung out in these places, and were amused at the subterfuge. The Watson sisters were an act popular before the First World War, and came out of retirement for this cartoon.
