@@lloydkline1518 riley had a nice jump shot...jackdon had some game too...both could play ...hayes was tough too...3 guys id have try out for my team no problem
Tex Winter was the man who made change the FT rule because he saw Wilt Chamberlain dunking his own free throws from the line, so he was already there in the 50's, as assistant stuff.
Interesting to see where the NBA was then, at a crucial crossroads -- the arrival of Abdul-Jabbar, the twilight of Wilt and the 2nd season after the end of the Bill Russell era.
calvin murphy had the same height as nate robinson and he was easily dunking...another proof against arguments like "unathletic players" back then are bullshit!
+Andreas GR The NBA players of today are better athletes, but the NBA and ABA players of back then were much better all-around basketball players. And yes, there is a difference.
Pau gasol, marc gasol, al jefferson, Tim duncan, lamarcus Aldridge, jahlil okafor, Andrew bogut (not so much scoring but play making from the post). Guys can do it but the game is much faster up and down and the defense is different nowerdays that post ups aren't necessary. It's a more pick and roll oriented game
Pranas V. - We’re all fortunate Dolan didn’t own the Knicks back then . It’s getting more difficult to remember the Knicks were once relevant and the class of the NBA.
What a great awesome show !!!!!! A complete preview of every team in the NBA for the 1971-1972 season !!!!!!! ... I enjoyed learning about all the old faces in new places !!!!!!! Hope , I see all the other shows from the 1970's here on YOU TUBE !!!!!!!!
Really; rudy T ; Rudy t was never the same basketball; player; rudy T ; pride of city of hamtramach &university of michigan basketball won nba championship;; coaching houston rockets ; ithink his name was kermit washington; without looking it up
In 1971, the San Diego Rockets moved to Houston, and the team played its home games in the Astrodome, and also hosted games at Hofheinz Pavilion on the University of Houston campus. The San Francisco Warriors became the Golden State Warriors, simply because they chose to move to Oakland full time. The Cincinnati Royals moved to Kansas City the next season to become the Kings.
The Warriors couldn't get enough playing dates at the Oakland Coliseum (with the California Golden Seals still there) so they proposed being a regional franchise- 21 games at Oakland, and 20 at San Diego. The league and Players' Association wouldn't go for it, but the Coliseum managed to squeeze in enough playing dates after all. That season, their uniform had the map of California with a star at Oakland and a star at San Diego. That's how they became Golden State....
Pat Riley played against and coached Kareem. AWESOME

Yeah i remember watching him play...decent outside dhooter
Love the Baltimore Bullets' mod uniforms and the nicknames on the back of Houston's jerseys: "Rudy T." and "E". A nice niche to early 70's basketball.
A Phil Chenier jersey road jersey which is great, 10,000 dollars on Ebay
I dont care what anybody says, those old Baltimore Bullets jerseys with the long downward stripe were awesome.
The best ever in basketball history!
Two years later someone agrees.
Agreed
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Bullets should have kept Earl Monroe to go with Archie Clark. That would have been a BAD backcourt!!
Just great stuff, thanks for uploading. Lots of talent coming in too, Pistol Pete, Tiny, Calvin Murphy, Lanier, Cowens, Rudy T...
BasketballJones48021 and Tex!
❤ oldies nba basketballs
Elvin hayes & his legendary turn around jump shot ; ❤ rudy t pride of hamtramack & university of michigan
❤ connie hawkin 6 feet 8 inches ; master dribber of basketball
2:10 only footage of Calvin Murphy dunking...just barely!
13:18. Randy Smith at his best
AWESOME PLAYER, and we all know the most underrated.
I never thought Tex Winter was Houston's coach before. The father of the triangle offense.
Tex Winter was the man who made change the FT rule because he saw Wilt Chamberlain dunking his own free throws from the line, so he was already there in the 50's, as assistant stuff.
Also Tex Winter was college teammat3s with Alex Hannum. Whom used the triangle offense during his coaching tenure with Wilt as a 76er. 67-68
Yeah, he almost ruined Calvin Murphy's career before it got started, too. The genius stuck him on the bench.
I love vintage nba videos
Yeah so do I

Old& nuring home wilt & knee surgery wilt early 1970s vs young kareem abdul jabber
calvin murphy had the same height as nate robinson and he was easily dunking...another proof against arguments like "unathletic players" back then are bullshit!
In fact, he was a better all around player... I believe he's also in the NBA Hall Of Fame.
+Andreas GR The NBA players of today are better athletes, but the NBA and ABA players of back then were much better all-around basketball players. And yes, there is a difference.
Explain why they where 'much better all-around basketball players' back then?
Because today not all players know basketball fundamentals...Not one center of today's game knows how to post-up, for example...
My childhood era!!
Love the Hawks uniforms
Agreed.
I agree
Those Knicks teams in early 70s were beautiful to watch

Yes indeed
Early 1970 willis reed ny knick vs bill russell / boston celtics of 1960s ??
kareem.is lucky wilt was 10 yrs older than him and had double knee surgery
Early 1960s wilt : give wilt the ball& get out the way;; when wilt wheel toward the basket to score unstoppable

great nba from 70s,great teams and players no more sonics, braves, and bullets, royals now kings
So dumb--he was was not groomed. People are estranged all of the time. Kyle needs to step up and clear the air. He's 20 years old. This is ridiculous!

The Knicks lost in a crazy series vs bullets otherwise they would have repeated
Rudy got attacked years later by Washington of the Lakers.
Washington broke Rudy's skull.
Rudy almost died.

Late Charlie Jones was narrator for this film
Beautiful upload thank you
What's the paid attendance at the game at 2:50?
Riley lay up over Kareem!
Love the old unis
100% brilliant! Thank you so much for posting! Every team and every star of that era were highlighted. Loved it!
Sidney Wicks, the Michael Beasley of his day!
Ever hear about him in, "the breaks of the game"? He had a funny moment where he made management in Portland furious
Niagara.
Almost sounds like Charlie Jones
That was Charlie Jones.
Great content. I remember being 7 around the tv with dad and mom..
Man, where did you find this? It's brilliant!!!
Now that's a young Chic Hearn honoring Elgin Baylor.
Much Gratitude
