Well in my head, in headcannon. I usually condlsider Dart, Pouncer and Ruffrunner (even if that's their cannon names) I take those names as human given names. And in deep Toothless and the Light Fury (I call her Luna) like in these animations they give them their true names outside of their names given by humans. So in a way I see it like very neat if they were given these names outside their canon ones. Because in a way the names Ruffrunner, Pouncer, and Dart were given by the humans. And not their parents.
This is so beautiful! The thing I love though is you keeping their canon genders but giving them the fan made names. I think it's pretty realistic because I don't really think that Toothless and the Lightfury would know what a dart is, or think of a crazy (but cute) name like ruffrunner, but maybe they could think of the term, pouncer? Maybe, obviously what I said could not be true, but it's just something I like to think of.
Edit: Okay maybe TOOTHLESS would know what a dart is but I don't really think he would name his child after one lol

Dart is usually a boy's name by popular choice but is not meaning that they are tethered to the gender. Dawn is usually a girl's name, but still, I found out that on rare occasions, it can be given to boys. In rare occasions. A big example is Zephyr. Zephyr is always used on girls, but that name belinged to the greek God of Wind Zephyr, so it is originally a boy name. In technicality, a boy can be named Zephyr because it originated from a male in the first place. Is bizarre sometimes names have an origin and is gendered in weird ways a lot. Now one cool think about dragons is the thing you said. While they have their canon names, you hit a big point. If they were named, it means in universe the names Dart, Pouncer, and Ruffrunner were given by the humans of the franchise, and if we go fantasizing that Toothless and the Light Fury named then, technically you can pick any name because what would Toothless and the Light Fury would call them, would be their real names and Dart, Pouncer, and Ruffrunner would be more like a nick name for the parents than their true names. At lwast that's my headcannon

The almost 12hour gap between the siblings. I mean it's cute in media when a whole clutch hatches at the same time but in real life, most of the time, it's always one baby at a time. In birds atleast.
Yeah birds take time, but they are reptiles and don't they hatch all at once?
@@Bluejaylover True, true. Especially large clutches. But even those don't hatch all at once, perhaps only a couple or few hatchlings every hour or so, depending on the species. But the idea is that they don't hatch at the exact same time, and perhaps this can apply to nightfuries (disregarding the synced hatchings we saw in Gift of the Nightfury, since it's mostly Gronkles).

@@pinkishhaven5158 reptiles eggs don’t hatch all at once! At least from what I’ve seen, some snake hatchlings can hatch days apart which is honestly awesome

I was thinking of snakes too. Though remembering croc and alligator hatchlings made me doubt (since those all seem to hatch on the same day, just not same time).

Although I can’t say these names are their official ones but from a head canon standpoint those could be their real names as dart and pouncer and ruffrunner would be their nicknames for their human friends ^^
They are using FAN MADE names that all the fans of httyd aggred on before the official ones were released!

There's also a bit of humor i picked up from this because... canonically, most dragon eggs explode when hatching, as per the Gift of the Night Fury Christmas special after the first movie. at least, the Gronkle eggs do. According to the old wiki, Nightfury eggs had to be struck with lightning to hatch in a high place, but considering the transparent eggs in the third movie, and the higher number of Lightfurys present, it's possible their eggs don't even have a shell, which would make living in a humid, protected from sunlight, cave system ideal for incubating them, and save the mother's body the resources needed to make a shell. we don't know if Lightfury eggs have shells or not, but the infants within those eggs do bare a resemblance to the adult Lightfury.
The eggs created by all kinds of real world animals are determined by the mother's genetics, rather than the father's usually, so an Ayam Cemani (the black chicken who's meat, bones and feathers are all also black) hen who lays eggs that are half breed between it and say a Leghorn, the chicks would be grey or patched patterned, while the eggs they are laid in will be black like all the rest laid by that mother.
Surface dragon eggs would need a protective layer to prevent sun damage, and damage from the rougher scales of their siblings and parents when hatching, and the heat of the places that the eggs are kept. Notably, in the first movie, there are some piles of eggs within the Red Death's lair, scattered about and stuck to walls in various places.
I think the dragons knew that it wasn't safe for their babies with the Red Death's behavior, so they laid them elsewhere until the babies would be grown enough to please their alpha, but left them all safe with a few members of the flock to look after them while the rest did the raiding to compensate the food needed for the babies, Red Death, and themselves.
Next bit gets long, but I hope you like it.
Toothless, my theory is, didn't come from those dragons but got dropped with them by a parent, or found alone by one of them and they brought him along with them to where the other babies were. toothless didn't know his species mating behaviors, nor how to interact with the Lightfury properly beyond instincts, and chose to copy the other dragon species he'd seen doing theirs, as he did when trying to learn to do pretty much anything. it's impressive Toothless has learned to communicate with so many different kinds of dragons in each of their own ways, but makes sense if he had to in order to get fed, and stay with them. he also doesn't seem to be controlled by the Red Death like the rest of the dragons are and instead behaves with fear when following the call back to the nest in the evening, then is thoughtfully listening when he's riding in the ship.
He learned to pathfind in the mist by watching other dragons do it similarly, since we don't see him use this echolocation call even in any of the side series episodes, it makes sense again, that this isn't a behavior that's natural to him.
He also didn't know he could do the electrical burst until later in life, as a mature adult. The second movie displays this is something he learned he could do but didn't do it on his own. Thunder in the new series can do it and seems younger than toothless, and ((spoiler for the end of season 4 of the most recent series)) even the babies can do it, which means they are taught and capable from a young age. That Toothless couldn't means he never got the chance to see other Nightfurys do it. It's possible this trait is how adult Nightfurys help their babies to hatch, to instigate the electrical energy in the baby so they can burst out from the egg themselves using the electricity. Toothless can and does on several occasions "absorb" the electricity from other dragons, and lighting in the sky, as we see him do in the third movie and several of the side series episodes, then burst outward with it in a big go. this is also how he learned to do the cloaking, albeit for a shorter period of time than the Lightfury can.
Now... Skrill are attracted to lightning events to energize themselves and to hunt. we don't see many if any other dragons enjoying lightning storms, which don't seem to hurt Nightfurys, but does exhaust them to do multiple times. It's possible a combination of human prejudice, and Skrill numbers increasing in the south, drove the other Nightfuries north. in the second movie, Drago Blodvist has a cloak of black dragon skin, which we can reasonably assume is a Nightfury pelt. the same could be said of our third movie's antagonist, Gremmil and his gear, but that could also just be dyed leather. It's clear they're being hunted by humans in the side series as well.
Toothless also has a particular hatred of Whispering Deaths. a burrowing dragon who predates on other dragons like the Skrill does. even bearing an injury from one on his tail in the form of a bite mark scar there, which tells us he was probably nearly eaten at some point by one of these.
Now the booming electricity of a thunderstorm would attract a Skrill, and Toothless was attacked as a hatchling by a Whispering death. these could be completely unrelated but also have a lot to do with one another. If Nightfury were to try hatching their eggs, it would make sense that they would do so as a group, during a natural thunderstorm after moving their eggs using their mouths (retractable teeth remove the danger of damage during transport and a wide mouth also makes moving multiple eggs easier. also protects the teeth against heat damage from the plasma blasts, but that's beside the point) to a high point where they would be more likely and easier to attract lightning strikes to in order to electrify and help the babies burst from their eggs.
A Skrill attracted by all that electrical activity attacking a hatching gathering would definitely make all the adults with babies scramble to collect as many eggs and hatched babies as possible and flee with them if they can. A desperate parent carrying a baby isn't going to turn around and fight a predatory dragon, especially if it only has the one baby, and the predatory dragon is close. it's very possible Toothless lost a parent to a Skrill and ended up dropped during the fight, or left with other baby dragons to be found by the dragons under the Red Death's command.
If the Skrill struck the parent carrying an egg in its mouth or front feet with an electrical blast, the egg would have hatched explosively and the parent would definitely have dropped them, and if it activated his baby cloak just the once, then the parent wouldn't have seen where they baby went, but the Skrill wouldn't have either. If he were dropped on a low lying island with a Whispering Death on it, the desperate cries of a baby dragon would definitely attract the attention of a dragon with their own babies, even one not that baby's parent, to go to defend the baby, as we see many of the Berkian dragons do on many occasions with other kinds of dragons' babies, in multiple instances of both the second and third movies, and many episodes in several of the side series, or just scoop them up and flee to the safety of the flock.
As an adult with no idea how to hatch his own kind's eggs, it might have taken an accidental electrification of the water to signal the eggs to hatch, since that's how the Nightfury part of them would know it's time, or they would just hatch naturally as Lightfury do, a bit like a fish or a baby tree frog plopping out of their jelly like egg.
NOW, the Nightlight's (namely Dart's) subsequent eggs would likely have had the mottled, patchy shells given that they're a mix between the two egg types, and the shells would be weaker than a pure Nightfury's eggs, but stronger than a Lightfury's eggs.
I love your rendition of the hatching scene, but if you'd like mine, it continues.
Toothless clearly has gone before to the island where the eggs are hatched, and shares the same instinct to go with the others when they leave to hatch them in The Gift of the Nightfury, so he knows how other dragons hatch their eggs in pools of water. If the babies didn't instinctively hatch from the jelly like eggs, and required an adult to signal them, a distressed or depressed Lightfury might have abandoned the eggs at first, understanding they wouldn't hatch, then been confused as Toothless, equally confused and worried about the babies, but understanding they weren't dead, but weren't hatching either might have tried pushing them into one of the pools of water to hatch like the other dragons did. that might have made the Lightfury lash out at him for doing so, and he might have tried defending himself or fleeing to hide by using his own cloak, charging the water with electricity which would have woken the babies to hatch and start swimming up to the surface, ending the parent's fight. even if it were just the first baby to hatch based on that... it might have prompted the Lightfury to allow Toothless to try again, since it worked, and hatch out the rest.
NOW, all that said, Dart and her mate would have to learn how to hatch them by either watching Toothless and the Lightfury repeat the same process with any younger siblings, or had Toothless show them himself with Dart's eggs. This also works with the new series depiction of the descendant Nightlights' habits too.

Eclipse: I think her personality takes after her father. Curious, accepting and open. Likely to also be a trust worthy companion, someone who would prefer company rather than being alone.(Likely)
Dawn: He takes after his mother. He is prone to being aggressive when he's afraid. I think he might be the one who would follow his parents rule much more strictly, being more cautious than curios. Unlike his father, lol. He may be agressive to outsiders when he finds one. He's wary, and in growth he might be the fighter.
