Please tell us you'll be attending again and shooting footage, as well as interviewing the exhibitors. This video is excellent, allowing folks who were unable to physically attend to at least experience some of the joy.
Navigating large events like these can be a challenge with Autism, but everyone was so lovely I ended up really enjoying myself! 😊 There were many cool things to see and many old and new machines to try, and the recap party was such a fitting end to the first day; a really warm community vibe 🖤
I was a teenager in the USA and I had an Apple //gs. When my grandfather came to visit, he bought my younger brother an Amiga 500 (from the bargain bin!). While I loved my //gs, I was just amazed what a great computer the Amiga was - and the game collection was just huge. My //gs had a modem, and I spent a lot of time downloading games for Amiga, transferring (some times splitting them) them to MSDOS disks, then using the Amiga to unpack them to Amiga formatted disks and play the games. The Amiga demos were the best. I loved the european cracking and demo scene and dreamed of attending an Amiga party in Europe. You could say the amiga inspired me to move to europe. European coders were just amazing.
That reminds me - the Amiga also introduced me into Techno Music . The Prodigy! Nothing like that was in the USA at the time - we are talking early 90s.
I'm an Atari ST guy through and through and I had so much fun at Kickstart - I chatted to so many great people and the whole thing was so well organised by Ravi. The party on the Saturday was a highlight! I'll definitely be back next year - maybe with a little ST table tucked away in a corner somewhere 😅
I was there with the Scottish Amiga Users Group. I loved every second of the show. A massive thanks to Ravi and the rest of the team for putting on such an amazing event.
Spotted myself a couple of times there :) Great weekend at the show, though I didn't get to talk to everyone I wanted to either! I'll have to come back...
Huge congratulations to Andrew at @amigaformortals on hitting the Kickstarter goal with his joysticks shown in the video. There's 1 day left to back it if you're interested in one at www.kickstarter.com/projects/immortaljoysticks/immortaljoysticks Neil
Gutted I missed it! I had no idea it was on and I'm only down the road in Northamptonshire. Will definitely go to the next one and bring my custom desktopped Blizzard PPC powered A1200 :)
Wow wow wow. The backup station, the 3D printed floating Amiga demo ball 😍 Akiko32 Mini-ITX , ImmortalJoysticks, Checkmate Monitor ... when I see these awesome projects, I project (errr....) myself back in the days trying to imagine how I'd feel when learning about such machine!!! Cool Party , great remix 🥳
Attended the Amiga Expos in the Sydney convention center back in the early 90s and they were so much fun...bought a lot of gear whilst I was there (Opalvision card, CDTV etc)...also had the first cyberstorm 060 A4000 in Australia and remember these awesome machines fondly....this was back when computing was fun and not about using the platform to spy on its users. Those were the days 😊
It was great to meet you and quickly show you my Uzebox. If I'd got there earlier I probably would've made it into this video. Ah well! I will make it down to the Cave soon and we can do some Uzebox content then. The Uzebox is best open source console IMO, its the only one thats managed to maintain a active user base for 15+ years so I was surprised that no-one at Kickstart had heard of it. I can't think of a more fun way to learn eletronics than build your own console and writing a Uzebox game is a great way to learn C. It's nice that you can write games in C for it as most of the 8bit (and 16bit) consoles required you write games in assembly. I look forward to Kickstart 02!
Looks like Ravi did an awesome job! What am amazing looking event. I will hopefully be there next year. Great video as well Neil. Really well covered. ❤
What a phenomenal day. Can't wait for the next one, and now that I know some faces and names I'll be sure to say hi. Candid shot of me playing Turbo Tomato in there too 👀
great to see so many passionate amiga enthusiasts, had an amiga as a kid, but never really explored it much, life moved on and pc's came along. great this kit it still out there and advancements with new cases and pi's etc. one day would like to relive my youth and get back into this.
Am so jealous that there are events like these across Europe and so many retro events in general in the UK... have not come across any here in Melbourne 😞
Awesome video showing how great the event was. I managed to get a ticket for the Saturday and loved rekindling my love of Amiga chatting to people across the floors. Sadly, for my wallets’ sake I’m now looking to find an old Amiga 1200 that needs some TLC as a project to rebuild. Thanks to everyone involved putting it on and I can’t wait for next year which will be hopefully bigger and better. Oh, one last thing. Anyone have a url for the Gotek replacement on the left hand side, close to the entrance in the exhibitors room? I chatted with them for a bit but forgot to get any details - doh!
12:07 It's me and the King Cave Dweller! I almost lost my voice after a weekend of non-stop Amiga nerd-festing. Fiery PiStorm debates, rocking chip tunes, new Amiga demos, rubbing shoulders with the good and the great of Amiga games development, hanging with my favourite TH-camrs and Podcasters, and making new friends. I was in heaven! Huge thanks to @Djformula for making it all happen! Counting down the days until Kickstart 02!
So cool to see so many Amiga fans with all kinds of turbo specs and creations (especially in 2023). Great coverage of a good looking show that seems well attended 👍😊
It was a great event and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone was extremely friendly and it had a great atmosphere. It was also wonderful to meet you, Neil. Glad you had a good time as well!
I didn't know about this event until just before it happened. Looks like a great couple of days. Hopefully, it will be back again next year so I can check it out in person.
I remember playing Lemmings on my Amiga 1000. With extra memory. Boy was that expensive at the time. I really enjoyed Amigabasic. It was a great jump forward for me coming from my Commodore 64.
I gave my Amiga away years ago and regret it now. I spent hours and hours on it - writing AMOS games, playing games, drawing in Deluxe Paint, playing around with Sound Tracker, etc. I guess the problem is that I've spent a lot of years since using Windows PC's and I remember just before giving away my Amiga I played a few games on it.. and it was looking very primitive. I have glanced at the emulators.. but I got bored with those quite quick. As I say the problem is - I've just got too used to modern technology. I'm glad that people are keeping the Amiga alive though.
Many of us keep the machines alive for creative uses, things that the modern systems don’t quite do as well, I made a documentary about Amiga sound/music for instance 😊
Ravi clearly did an amazing job and im so glad it went so well. I would love to attend the event next year, along with Amiga Ireland and a visit to the Cave as well!
Thank you so much for this excellent video. I live in the USA and would love to attend one year. I’m a big fan of The Retro Hour and had been listening with interest about this event. Your video made it feel like I was there.
I've been watching old Computer Chronicles episodes, and something I really lament is the loss of trade shows and retail computer stores. I was on the "buy all the things from the Internet" bandwagon like everyone else, but like he said in the Checkmate interview -- you can't get across what it's like to use a product through a video. I really miss this stuff. With the DIY cottage industry that has sprung up, we're literally coming full circle, with vendors creating products that those early Comdex and CES shows would've killed for -- and they're still lustworthy today. Obsolete is a lie. Good products are good forever. Bring back the trade show! :-D
I wish Commodore was as big a deal in the states as it was in Europe. I missed the hayday of a lot of this and good to see an old school meet. Hopefully I can get to one of the VCFs somewhat near to me. Michaels project is amazing. I will have to look into it.
Last one I attended was the personal computer show 1987. Microprose had a hydraulic flight sim which was ace and I got to chat to Alan Sugar on the Amstrad stand. There were some very scantily clad ladies promoting a Domark game (i think), which was nice. Also bought a load of c64 pirating tools from one of the dodgy stalls tucked away lol.
I went to the World of Commodore, I think it was 1992 at Earl’s Court and I still have the CDTV t-shirt! I met a bunch of nice dudes from Amiga Format (and Commodore Format) who gave me a bunch of goodies back in Bath, where we were all from at the time

@@RMCRetro The GS600 was very interesting. Certainly worthy of some coverage. Also their consistently good arcade joysticks - something I note that you missed when you covered the immortal joysticks and said they were the first modern sticks.

@14:50 you can make the FAT32 partition read and write with the PiStorm, I've done this too and together with SM2fs you'll never have too remove the SD card from the Amiga again, unless you screw up ofc😅

As an owner of a CD32 I wish someone would make an aftermarket keyboard for it, as tracking down an Amiga 4000 Keyboard is near impossible plus too expensive.
Get a Sun Race industrial keyboard for it. It's a perfect colour match and adapters are available. I use a PS2 version and a Lyra 3 adapter would get it working!
Most enjoyable! The video came across almost as a piece of journalism - I guess that wasn’t your intention, but it sucked me right in and had me wishing I had been there (though as a “Nottingham Exile” brainwashed to follow the Reds and not the Magpies that may have raised eyebrows! 😀) Nevertheless I will certainly be looking at my calendar next year to see if I can pinch my nose and attend! (Seriously I bear Notts no malice as I remember the fire at Forest in 1968 (I was actually at that match) after which Forest’s home games were rescheduled to be played at Meadow Lane (“across the river”) The whole thing has given me a warm and fuzzy nostalgic feeling! 😂
Kickstart 02 is taking place on 29/30th June 2024 - Great to see it establishing as a big annual event. Find out more at amigashow.com

Nevertheless I will certainly be looking at my calendar next year to see if I can pinch my nose and attend!
(Seriously I bear Notts no malice as I remember the fire at Forest in 1968 (I was actually at that match) after which Forest’s home games were rescheduled to be played at Meadow Lane (“across the river”)
The whole thing has given me a warm and fuzzy nostalgic feeling! 😂
