    What’s 1 or 2 setting on the top for

    • @NextJeneration
      @NextJeneration  3 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      Great question! It’s the “torque” setting, which is the turning power of the drill and allows you to control how much force is applied to turn the screw.
      1 means low speed with high torque (high torque means more power which is best for driving screws into wood)
      2 means high speed with low torque (low torque is best for drilling holes)

    • @NextJeneration
      @NextJeneration  3 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Honestly, we just keep ours on “2” and if it ever stops while drilling (rarely happens, only with super hard woods) then we change to “1”. Hope this helps! It’s a little hard to explain, that’s why we skipped it in the video 😂

    • @dominicplater841
      @dominicplater841 3 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      The #1 setting is for screwing in screw and #2 setting is for drilling holes in walls.

    I'm an older widow who moved recently. I had bought a deWalt hand drill, and figured out some of it. Understanding the different pressures is new to me. Handymen have been hard to find, don't keep appointments. I have a lot of minor projects impending. Now I can continue installing my new curtain hardware. Thank you!!! - Mrs. JD

      Well Judeth, I'm in the same boat. I'm a 66 year old widow who can't find a handyman to save my soul. This video is definitely helpful. I did get a corded drill, because I didn't want to buy multiple batteries and when I get started on something I just want to work on it until it's done. So, never having used a drill before, this video should get me going in the right direction. Thank you to NextJen for making this "drills for dummies" video and explaining everything so thoroughly.

    Drill- Packedge in typical box, came with a tool bag (added bonus), two batteries, one charger, drill, and driver. Two words "plenty of Torque" th-cam.com/users/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv well I guess that's three. Nice upgrade from current setup. Has belt clips, I don't think I will be using those. Driver and drill were bigger than what I expected but it is an upgrade from the current setup. For the money I would say that this is a great setup for Professionals and DIY/Weekend warriors.

      VIDEO IDEA #1: I own 2 corded power drills, older ones. Neither of them will hold onto a drill bit well enough. The drill bit starts to spin so it doesn't work. Do you have a video yet about how to fix that? My son-in-law replaced the chuck with a new one but soon I had the same problem. So is it probably the torque setting or what else am I doing wrong?
      The easiest solution - and dumbest? - seems to be buy a new drill. I'd rather avoid that.
      One of my drills is a Craftsman, bought in 1986, but not used much.

    Few doubts, Plz reply.
    1. Is cordless drill good for making holes on masonry and concrete?. In our region houses are made of bricks and concrete.
    2. You have shown drill bits for screwing. Should I buy a different set for drilling holes?. I want to use the screws that comes with the plastic thing which goes into the ole first.
    3. Is there a danger of drill bit getting off and injuring?.
    4. How long the normal battery lasts on the higher torque setting?.
    Your video is much clear and better than the 1.6M viewed one in TH-cam.

    • @NextJeneration
      @NextJeneration  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you!
      1: We would recommend a corded drill or a hammer drill to drill into concrete. A cordless drill may be able to do the job, but it may burn out and not last as long doing that much work.
      2: Yes, you should buy a different set to “predrill” aka “pilot holes”. You would need a bit a little smaller than the size of the anchor
      3: We’ve never had this problem. If the bit has come out, it just falls out, you would put it back into the drill and tighten it as much as possible.
      4: The battery life differs depending on the voltage you get. It should tell you on the package how long the battery will last. :)

    "Righty tighty, lefty loosy" 😖😆 This is not the first time I heard this phrase. The first time I heard it was on this Reddit video where Surgeons where discussing what had happened when patients suddenly woke up in the middle of a surgery. One of them talked about this guy who woke up right while they were trying to screw on some surgical prosthetics on him using bolts? I can't really remember the specifics. But apparently the patient was something of a carpenter, he woke up, saw what they were doing, mumbled "righty tighty, lefty loosy" and then went right back to sleep.
    The phrase just reminds me of it now. Very useful phrase.

    I've been using my drill for ages without understanding torque or what the "weird pipe" (chuck for screw bits) were. None of that is talked about in the manual that came with the drill. Thank you for explaining the basics.
