I always interpreted the ending of season 2 as his wish to Holy Wayne coming true. He got his family back.
Also, the soundtrack is amazing. Always gets me.

I love the irony of Mary waking, seconds after Nora disses Jesus.
But Matt's face when he sees her awake!! Can't take my eyes off of him there.

Just on Homeward Bound- In a interview Damon said they wanted to use ‘Like a Prayer’ originally but couldn’t get the rights! Lucked out, because Homeward Bounds lyrics match Kevins arc incredibly. Maybe it was fate? 😉

I always find Kevin's face right at the end of this episode so interesting(i.e., Heartbreaking). In death, he longs to be homeward bound but like the lyrics to the song he also plays the game and pretends, feeling emptiness in harmony.
His face at the end there looks like a pained relief. Relieved to see that everyone he cares about is there in one place and safe but pained at the realization that he must continue to pretend. Kevin needs someone to comfort him.

Great reaction and review. Kevin sings to release himself out of purgatory = Orpheus. Now you're ready for one of the greatest TV experiences ever - the third season and especially the 4 last episodes.

As amazing as Season 2 was, Season 3 is every bit as good, if not quite its equal. They are definitely cut from the same cloth, though. And I love all the Season 3 beards.

Lots of parallels with S2E1, especially the cave woman. The woman who stole Lilly had a snake tattoo!
The story started with a quake where someone lost there family- this time a quake had someone come home to his family. Just beautiful. Number one season of TV for me 🥰

Season 2 blew me away but just wait for season 3! Wow! Hard to believe the entire book was finished in season 1. Season 2 & 3 are fully new creations by the show writers. Never know a show that goes so way out there but presents it in such a way its totally believable. Some of the best tv ever

In Leftovers fashion not every minor mystery is revisited. Better to theorise so spoiler warning for Neil:
    ****************
Virgil mentioned ‘the foul machinery bellow the waist which transgressed the law of man’. Hard to see this as anything but sexual assault (seen Reddit say sex addiction perhaps- but why would that anger John?).
I interpret it as John being assaulted- but the specifics of what happened doesn’t matter. Whether it was John or his family, it pushed John to a angry place and to his extreme version of atheism (in opposition to Virgils faith)
As mentioned last week, dogs in episode 4 were running around woods- think girls were spreading scent around to stop themselves being tracked.

    • @Eowyn187
      @Eowyn187 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

When John, vehemently, attests that Virgil did nothing to him, to Kevin, .. that's where I knew he'd touched him. So much anger. And denial.

If you want more of Damon's genius, Regina King, and mindf*cks... ck out Watchmen.
    It's riveting!

I've always found it fascinating that Wayne fathered children hoping to give rise to "the bridge," whatever that meant. Except that we see Lily play an integral role on a literal bridge in reuniting the family. Without Lily, Nora would have left at the end of Season 1. Without Lily, Kevin might not have stuck with Nora. She brought Tommy back to Laurie. The idea of safety for Lily and the family brought Nora and family to Jardin. It's both very on-the-nose, but also quite subtle.

Virgil is Jonhs father. They always specify when they talk about what Virgil did as what Virgil did to HIM.

The end of season 2 and still no answers... Welcome to confusion. Can't wait for you to see season 3.
This is real story telling without the cheap seats for those unwilling to work for an answer.
You keep calling Kevin's experiences a psychotic break? Why? There are real world events that are certainly NOT normal, his return from the dead multiple times a significant factor. So why not think of these experiences as revelation, internal dialogue or religious encounters?
He's not crazy because these external events ARE happening, so if your dismissing his experiences during "death" - whose to say what's "normal"? It's delusion when there are more reasonable explanations, YOU'RE the one calling his walking around with a bullet hole in him a miracle, yet you dismiss the rest?

I love that he was dead for 8 hours. Like everything in this show, it leaves things ambiguous. Maybe he was dead for 8 hours...or, maybe like Nikki and Paulo from Lindlelof's "other" show, he was just paralyzed and had the appearance of death. How long did that paralysis last? Oh, about 8 hours. Kevin just wasn't buried as deep as they were.
