Honestly, I think the reason there was no "Press A to Cheryl" jokes because unlike Heavy Rain, they recorded more than 3 takes of the line and the voice acting didn't sound horrible.
They are there, but it's not like it's the only thing people remember about the game. Heavy Rain... did not have as much else to grasp on, even considering Shattered Memory's flaws.
I just finished this game and went back to watch this video again, and I ended up agreeing with pretty much all of the points you made in this video. Shattered Memories was a huge step in the right direction, and I was deeply invested in the story and the way things turned out. Great review, man.

Silent hill 2 feels more like your lost in a dream world taken over by monsters has such a chilled out vibe but at the same time feels like depression. Silent hill 3 continues alil on what silent hill 2 did But adds another layer ontop that makes it more of a nightmare the visuals and claustrophobia get in there good. Could go on but imma go play some sh2.
Silent Hill started out as a psychological horror through the visuals of a nightmarish supernatural horror. With Silent Hill 3 canonizing one of the endings at the expense of the others Silent Hill became a subpar supernatural horror. The town of Silent Hill as a character in and of itself was no longer an unknowable Rorschachian nightmare dreamscape of inexhaustible depths: it had a linear timeline. The evil was now because of the machinations of a cult, it was like if every episode of the Twilight Zone had to have the same twist. Silent Hill Shattered Memories was the biggest attempt to step outside that and overall the fan response indicated they weren't up for it. Silent Hill in the beginning was inspired by the likes of challenging horror like HP Lovecraft, Jacob's Ladder, and Eraserhead and ended up turning into something more like Alone In The Dark because fans demanded that everything after Silent Hill 3 operate under the premise of the ending of Silent Hill 1 that it was a continuation of. It was a downward trajectory by fan demand.
SPOILER COMMENT BELLOW!!! The ending utterly broke my heart the first time I played it. I got the ending where she tearfully says goodbye to her dad and he turns to ice. It fucked me up so bad. Right up there with Mufasa's death xD I think the story in this game is one of if not the best in the Silent Hill franchise. It's too bad that they dropped the ball on the horror and especially the nightmare world but damn the story almost made me not care about all that. I love that the developers took this chance. In general I appreciate that they tried different things with the franchise even though they were pretty misguided for the most part. I hope there will be more Silent Hill games in the future. I'm willing to wade through a bunch of bad games to get to a game that is as brilliant as Shattered Memories came so close to becoming and in a sense, is.
I really enjoyed this game, but not as a Silent Hill game. The exploration aspect is really good,and, as you said, the chase sequences aren't really scary, but this game still has a place in my heart, and i don't know why... Great review tho! You've got a new subscriber!
I thought the system was that good. I just got a wii console, just set up my info such as name, address and whatnot. Immediately spent the day playing this game. When she introduced herself I got so terrified I dropped the controller, unplugged the console and TV and refused to pick it up until I google searched the characters name was legit. I was convinced at the time that the game was reading my info so deeply, that it would go as far as to copy my first and last name to be used as a character in the story because of the warning at the beginning. That moment is hands down my favorite moment while playing a game.
I have this game on PS2. It was the first game in the silent hill series I played to completion without any walk through or help. It’s definitely not my favourite entry in the series (sh2 will always be my favourite) but it will hold a special place in my heart.
Recently played this game, this is my first Silent Hill actually and I really enjoyed it, what ruined it for me is how formulaic it was because as you said in the video, outside of the chase sequences there is zero creepyness, and thus you are never scared about your survival posibilities, you just keep solving puzzles until you reach the chase scene and then the psychiatric scene, if only there was some puzzle solving or exploration to do during the chasing scenes this would have been more thrilling.
I remember playing it in 2014 and for myself the physical involvement through shaking the Wii remote was a big plus. Yes the game isn't scary but it makes a good job when it comes to immersion: the shaking of the remote, the cell phone sounds coming out of the remote and the HUD-less design.
This game is a masterpiece. I first played it years ago on my dads PSP when I was visiting him and thought to give it a try before going to sleep for the night. Let’s just say ,I didn’t get any sleep because I got so drawn into the story that I completed the game all within that night 🤗 I ended up buying it for my PS2 later on and tried finding it recently but I can’t seem to locate it anywhere in my apartment and I know i didn’t get rid of it because I love the game so much!! Hopefully it turns up soon.

This was my first and only Silent Hill game, I got into it with no expectations and it blew me away with its presentation, controls and story (and I'm the kind of person who usually doesn't care one bit about a game's story) So of course I loved it! But well, yeah, it wasn't the least bit scary, but as I said, I had no expectations, so it didn't matter to me...
I loved this game with utter abandon, bordering on madness. At first, I was terribly disappointed, thinking it was just a poorly recounted remake, but once I realized what was actually going on.. I replayed Shattered Memories repeatedly.. as in I am unable to recall how many times as I had lost count.. and did not care.

Well, the scare factor definitely depends on the person. They scare me because I've always had bad dreams of being chased as a child. I don't like being touched so much, let alone ugly creatures that I don't understand and who shrieks at me. 10:42 I wouldn't say they don't come anywhere near you, they just don't pass through the circumference of the light. As soon as it goes out, it doesn't take long before they are on your back again. To your comment about getting lost, I feel you there. On the other hand, you can use the GPS on your phone while you run. I only use it when I have a flair up or if I have a head start at the beginning or if I somehow lose them. 11:38 but then, you never know when the world will switch you over to the chase sequence. I like the same version of Cybil as well.
i just finished this game the ending made me cry. I liked the game alot it was one of the most best games on the wii and i never seen a game really use the voice calling thing on the wii only the calling game did. The monster parts of the game were fustrating but i was terrified. The game didnt really do the frame rate lag on my wii but sometimes did. I just wish there was more monsters and a happier ending. my birthday is on the 29 this october so ive been getting a few early presents. Thats how i got the game. I think im getting the gruge game on the wii. Back to what i was saying there should have been more monsters and maybye a boss run sequence which would of been cool i give this game 5 and a half stars.
Normally I’d agree, but MGS 3 is one of the easiest PS2 games to get. There’s both the legacy and HD versions with multiple games including 3 that are half the price of full games. And on amazon they’re selling new copies of the PS2 version for the same price, they also have tons of used for literally *$1*
It´s a simple thing, Nitro Rad. Heavy Rain got that lil annoying bug where the protagonist would be stuck with the "press to Shaun" command the whole game, if ya did some minor trickery. So in the dramatic reveal *spoiler* that the fat dude is the origami-killer all along*spoiler* you could make the protagonist bark "Shaun," at his face.

Yes, this is the only game I finished in the series and yeah, it's just lack of time and interest really, but this game offered such a great atmosphere and story. Yeah, it's not Silent hill as fans know it but as a retelling and reimagining that doesn't focus on horror but instead on delivering an incredible psychological experience? Yeah, it does the job perfectly! I'm certain that if people play this game with I open mind and don't go in expecting it to be like the past titles, but as this new experience, it's a very good game! Now, okay, I understand the other side of the fandom, as a Metroid fan, we got Metroid Federation Force after Other M and it's frustrating. This is another example of this type of change and I definitely understand if people don't want to play or don't like the game at all, it's too different. But yeah, it's not a bad game, it's just not Silent Hill as we're used to. I keep recommending this game to people who aren't into horror and want a great experience with Silent Hill's characters and idea. Also, to finish, I want to mention that Silent Hill always had the big plot twist at the end where the story is turned on its head and things start to make sense. This game focuses on that and delivers it so well.

+Hungover Hero I think he was talking about all of the bad 3rd party games that the Wii attracted do to the its popularity. Nintendo's exclusives are obviously the exception along side the few good 3rd party games like No More Heroes, Mad World, Red Steel 2, and Okami.

+Hungover Hero Those are all first party titles. The Wii was pretty notorious for having a generally weak third party support. Sure there were a handful of good third party titles (Shattered Memories included), but it was that in combination with the fact that Climax's previous Silent Hill game wasn't very good that had me going into this one with low expectations.
The monsters are keeping you from reaching the doctor's office and facing and accepting the truth. They try to protect "you" from it. It's crazy and makes me want to cry every time I think about it.
I love how you navigate the phone with the D-Pad exactly like Harry does in-game, and then the audio plays out of the wii-mote really quietly which at first I thought was faulty hardware but it actually makes you hold it up to your ear like a phone. it's silly but this was really neat to me.

Couple of things you didn't mention. The main enemies in this game (Named "Raw Shocks" and henceforth called Raws for brevity) have their appearance slightly changed based on your Psych Profile, similar to how locations, characters, and endings are affected by it. In fact, the appearance of the Raws can help give you an idea of what ending path you are currently on. - Focusing on women and sexual things will give the Raws noticeable breasts and butts, zipper-like rips/scars on their backs that resemble corsets, large lips as their sole facial feature, and their feet will resemble high heels. - Focusing on alcohol or drugs (moreso drinking) will give the Raws bloated skin, what with look like sores or maybe fungus on them. - Focusing on trivial things and/or being rude and uncaring will result in Raws having very atrophied looks, having large holes in them, bones sticking out, and appearing heavily wounded in general. - Focusing on finding Cheryl and generally being more kind will result in Raws having an unusual appearance. Typically their torsos will be separated into several floating slices and their heads will have a blocky look to them, usually in a cross shape. As an additional note, the name "Raw Shock" is likely in reference to the Rorschach Test. In that way, the Raws could be seen as Silent Hill manifesting inkblots into hostile monsters, and the different appearances of the Raws depending on your actions could refer to how people can look at inkblots and see different things depending on their personality and emotions. Lastly, there is another enemy type, being the returning Larval Stalkers from the original Silent Hill. Just like last time, they're technically harmless, although they'll make the phone emit static akin to the Raws alongside making noises that sound like Raws. This effect is usually hampered by the "I'm not in the frozen otherworld so I know I'm not in danger" issue mentioned in the video, but it might make for a good scare for players that are unaware at least.
There where discussions of something like this from GameFaqs back then if I recall well. It was fun trying to understand this game at a young age. But yeah, the music, it still transcends past my current years of being here. I vividly remember how the songs would feel. Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and Akira Yamaoka. They did well, together with the other people who put their care to the game.
I also read that the raw shock is actually cheryl… its how she doesn’t want harry to find out the truth because in her head harry is alive and she also want harry to think that way. Hence why the raw shock comfort harry when he pass out after it got him.
Silent Hill Shattered Memories is the loneliest game that I have played when I was at my worst and it helped me cope. I will never forget when at the end of the game, the psychologist said something along the lines of... "don't blame yourself, blame your family, blame society, blame god, blame me" and it was about self destruction. The game doesn't have enemies and it is better this way. The world becomes cold and distant.
In all honestly, I would love to see the idea of Cold Heart getting revived and made into a complete game. The idea of the game taking what you fear and forming it into your own personal hell is pretty frightening
I totally agree, and this would be more plausible on modern consoles, considering all the features the game was intended to have. I really hope it gets a revisit one day, as it sounds like it would be an incredible game.

To be fair to that Psychology Warning at the start of the game I don't think there's a single Silent Hill game that doesn't come with something similar at the start. I used to think it was to warn players but now the more I play SH1 I think it was there to condition them for the game.
its still a bit fun though that SM wasnt the first one to scan what you do, i mean, SH2 was probably the first SH game that would look at what you do through the game and then decide how it will play out, like, the endings to SH2 could be different all about how you play the game, for an example you could get the good ending if you were inspecting the letter from mary often! Or get the bad ending if you checked on Maria too often when she was in the hospital and such! I also love how no one even knew about the game testing you in SH2! That way it wasnt all in your control since you didnt know it were happening!
Warnings like that are usually included for legal reasons. So that if someone complaints about psychological damage or something like that they can say "you were warned".

I replayed this game so damn much, and I loved it so damn much and the plot twist is so great! You totally forgot to mention though that when you find out its Cheryl in the chair that one of the things that makes sense is the other world sections, you notice that everytime you are about to find out Harry is actually dead, everything freezes which is Cheryls denial. And you also forgot to mention that the game doesn't only change of how you act during the "sessions" but what makes this game so great is that it also has to do with where you LOOK, looking away, staring him in the eyes or looking at his dick, has an impact, or when you explore silent hill the game changes depending on if you look at a girls tits all the time, or at sexy posters or not looking at them at all. Its such a little detail I love it
I find this game like one of those classic books you must read at different points in your life, like The Little Prince. This adds infinite replayability, because you take it from the shelf every couple of months/years and your life perception has changed

This game is simply amazing. Did you know that the monsters are not hurting you they just hold you until you lose enough body heat that you collapse? And they don't hurt you, they just pet you after that in a reassuring way that everything is going to be alright? It's sad as fuck knowing the ending. Damn, just thinking about the ending is killing me.
Silent hill has a cult following but that cult following isn't that big also that cult following is filled with people that hate every silent hill that isn't the first 3-4 games and will not give anything new a chance To put it simply it won't sell well
@@kingi-sick2485 I get that and honestly I do kind of agree that these remakes were pretty bad after having had a chance to replay 3 and play through 2 on the original hardware. While I don't think the games after 4, were great, I did find enjoyment in Origin, Shattered Memories, and Downpour while honestly thinking that Homecoming was pretty bad. Though I honestly think that Homecoming had it's good points (descent to hell is honestly a great Silent Hill level with Scarlet legitimately being one of the freakiest bosses in the franchise) the fact that the game was written by 5 different people shows through a lack of focus or real character development in a way that Silent Hill 2 didn't do vastly better. That said, there is a new game coming out with Ito returning as the art director, so at the very least we'll have cool enemy designs and Pyramid Head will not be showing up (because Ito doesn't reuse his designs). I'll definitely give it a chance if not only for the art direction.
this was actually my first silent hill game. wasn't until just today that i actually got to play and finish the original silent hill. they're both great games.

For me, Shattered Memories and Downpour were still inherently good games, even if they were not scary. I still had fun. Anyone getting angry and hung up on the non-scary factor is missing out.

there are 3 games that have made me cry like a bitch: -walking dead season 1 -the darkness 2 (I had recently broken up with someone and the game simply got to me) -Silent hill: Shattered Memories I mean damn, when a game can get you to a point where you just want to ball up in a corner and wait for someone to hug you you know they had made a damn good story.
Oooh, I loved this game. Sadly it made me hit my girlfriend at the time pretty hard. Not on purpose. The game makes you shake the wii motes to shake off the enemies and I didn't realize she was that close to me an "bam!" right in the face. During a part that actually startled me too, so it was kind of like I got so scared that I elbowed her face in retaliation. She wasn't aware of that mechanic of it either and I was super engrossed in it. I recently was given a broken wii that I got working and this was the first game I got for it. This and Fatal Frame 4. Anyway, I found this game mind blowing on a lot of levels. The first of which being that I had the wii during it's generation cycle and had no idea that this game came out or that it was as good as it was. I stumbled across it a little after the Wii U had been out and I had pretty much just realized that the Wii U was a whole other system and not just an add on like I thought for the longest time.
This game is a highlight of the franchise and it's one of Wii's few masterpieces that take advantage of the console. The game design is just so good, it actually looks better than SH Homecoming on a PS3, and the puzzle mechanics are very satisfying and varied (since player choices affect map layout)
Great review as always (Love the opening bits for these Silent Hill videos), though I have to admit i'm surprised to hear Downpour being considered the worst of the post Team Silent entry since most folks I know say Book of Memories is the worst post-TS Silent Hill game whereas Downpour is more of a love/hate affair. Speaking of, any plans to review that next year or in the future?
Oh my goodness, it's so rare to meet other people who liked Shattered Memories! Shattered memories is the only SH game I played and finished- and Ive played multiple times with my friend. While staying the night at her place we played on the PS2 and first time She played it coz I was scared, the second time I played it and she was surprised to see how different it all went - the story lines literally split to different directions for us - and the third time we played taking turns after each psychologist segment, coz we wanted to know wether our previous segments carried over. Before anyone asks - more or less, some parts played much like my first play through, some got mixed together
The story is possibly one of the few examples i can think of when a remake manage to be good and unique despite being a remake. But i can understand why people dont like this considering the too simple gameplay and puzzle and the fact that you are too safe in the world that doesnt filled with ice. Gamers most of the time look for gameplay advantage instead of the story so i can understand their complaint. But the good story and choices, mixed with the unique psychological aspect of the game is the thing that truly saved this game and for me personally, i enjoyed it
Yea shattered memories is just as good as the original 4 imo. It may not be scary, but the strong connection between shattered memories silent hill and the protagonist makes it a hit for me.
I am so glad you said all this. Shatteted Memories is one of my favorite games. It is an absolute delight. Even if it's not scary at all. So many people judge it without giving it a real chance.

I have this game on PS2. It was the first game in the silent hill series I played to completion without any walk through or help. It’s definitely not my favourite entry in the series (sh2 will always be my favourite) but it will hold a special place in my heart.

Recently played this game, this is my first Silent Hill actually and I really enjoyed it, what ruined it for me is how formulaic it was because as you said in the video, outside of the chase sequences there is zero creepyness, and thus you are never scared about your survival posibilities, you just keep solving puzzles until you reach the chase scene and then the psychiatric scene, if only there was some puzzle solving or exploration to do during the chasing scenes this would have been more thrilling.

I remember playing it in 2014 and for myself the physical involvement through shaking the Wii remote was a big plus. Yes the game isn't scary but it makes a good job when it comes to immersion: the shaking of the remote, the cell phone sounds coming out of the remote and the HUD-less design.

This game is a masterpiece. I first played it years ago on my dads PSP when I was visiting him and thought to give it a try before going to sleep for the night. Let’s just say ,I didn’t get any sleep because I got so drawn into the story that I completed the game all within that night 🤗 I ended up buying it for my PS2 later on and tried finding it recently but I can’t seem to locate it anywhere in my apartment and I know i didn’t get rid of it because I love the game so much!! Hopefully it turns up soon.

This was my first and only Silent Hill game, I got into it with no expectations and it blew me away with its presentation, controls and story (and I'm the kind of person who usually doesn't care one bit about a game's story) So of course I loved it!
But well, yeah, it wasn't the least bit scary, but as I said, I had no expectations, so it didn't matter to me...

I loved this game with utter abandon, bordering on madness. At first, I was terribly disappointed, thinking it was just a poorly recounted remake, but once I realized what was actually going on.. I replayed Shattered Memories repeatedly.. as in I am unable to recall how many times as I had lost count.. and did not care.
Sybil looks like Olivia Benson from SVU and I love it.
I rage quit this game in the first chase scene. I ran in circles for several minutes and couldn’t find any exits. Then those damn monsters killed me.

Well, the scare factor definitely depends on the person. They scare me because I've always had bad dreams of being chased as a child. I don't like being touched so much, let alone ugly creatures that I don't understand and who shrieks at me.

To your comment about getting lost, I feel you there. On the other hand, you can use the GPS on your phone while you run. I only use it when I have a flair up or if I have a head start at the beginning or if I somehow lose them.

i just finished this game the ending made me cry. I liked the game alot it was one of the most best games on the wii and i never seen a game really use the voice calling thing on the wii only the calling game did. The monster parts of the game were fustrating but i was terrified. The game didnt really do the frame rate lag on my wii but sometimes did. I just wish there was more monsters and a happier ending. my birthday is on the 29 this october so ive been getting a few early presents. Thats how i got the game. I think im getting the gruge game on the wii. Back to what i was saying there should have been more monsters and maybye a boss run sequence which would of been cool i give this game 5 and a half stars.

Normally I’d agree, but MGS 3 is one of the easiest PS2 games to get. There’s both the legacy and HD versions with multiple games including 3 that are half the price of full games. And on amazon they’re selling new copies of the PS2 version for the same price, they also have tons of used for literally *$1*
It´s a simple thing, Nitro Rad. Heavy Rain got that lil annoying bug where the protagonist would be stuck with the "press to Shaun" command the whole game, if ya did some minor trickery. So in the dramatic reveal *spoiler* that the fat dude is the origami-killer all along*spoiler* you could make the protagonist bark "Shaun," at his face.
I... always just assumed the game was bad because no one seems to have done a full LP of it. But now I realize that... I was wrong. This game looks amazing.

Yes, this is the only game I finished in the series and yeah, it's just lack of time and interest really, but this game offered such a great atmosphere and story. Yeah, it's not Silent hill as fans know it but as a retelling and reimagining that doesn't focus on horror but instead on delivering an incredible psychological experience? Yeah, it does the job perfectly! I'm certain that if people play this game with I open mind and don't go in expecting it to be like the past titles, but as this new experience, it's a very good game! Now, okay, I understand the other side of the fandom, as a Metroid fan, we got Metroid Federation Force after Other M and it's frustrating. This is another example of this type of change and I definitely understand if people don't want to play or don't like the game at all, it's too different. But yeah, it's not a bad game, it's just not Silent Hill as we're used to. I keep recommending this game to people who aren't into horror and want a great experience with Silent Hill's characters and idea. Also, to finish, I want to mention that Silent Hill always had the big plot twist at the end where the story is turned on its head and things start to make sense. This game focuses on that and delivers it so well.

Those are all first party titles. The Wii was pretty notorious for having a generally weak third party support. Sure there were a handful of good third party titles (Shattered Memories included), but it was that in combination with the fact that Climax's previous Silent Hill game wasn't very good that had me going into this one with low expectations.

The monsters are keeping you from reaching the doctor's office and facing and accepting the truth. They try to protect "you" from it. It's crazy and makes me want to cry every time I think about it.

I love how you navigate the phone with the D-Pad exactly like Harry does in-game, and then the audio plays out of the wii-mote really quietly which at first I thought was faulty hardware but it actually makes you hold it up to your ear like a phone. it's silly but this was really neat to me.
I love when developers utilize features like that. Like when developers continue to use the PS4 controller's features in fun ways.

Couple of things you didn't mention. The main enemies in this game (Named "Raw Shocks" and henceforth called Raws for brevity) have their appearance slightly changed based on your Psych Profile, similar to how locations, characters, and endings are affected by it. In fact, the appearance of the Raws can help give you an idea of what ending path you are currently on.
- Focusing on women and sexual things will give the Raws noticeable breasts and butts, zipper-like rips/scars on their backs that resemble corsets, large lips as their sole facial feature, and their feet will resemble high heels.
- Focusing on alcohol or drugs (moreso drinking) will give the Raws bloated skin, what with look like sores or maybe fungus on them.
- Focusing on trivial things and/or being rude and uncaring will result in Raws having very atrophied looks, having large holes in them, bones sticking out, and appearing heavily wounded in general.
- Focusing on finding Cheryl and generally being more kind will result in Raws having an unusual appearance. Typically their torsos will be separated into several floating slices and their heads will have a blocky look to them, usually in a cross shape.
As an additional note, the name "Raw Shock" is likely in reference to the Rorschach Test. In that way, the Raws could be seen as Silent Hill manifesting inkblots into hostile monsters, and the different appearances of the Raws depending on your actions could refer to how people can look at inkblots and see different things depending on their personality and emotions.
Lastly, there is another enemy type, being the returning Larval Stalkers from the original Silent Hill. Just like last time, they're technically harmless, although they'll make the phone emit static akin to the Raws alongside making noises that sound like Raws. This effect is usually hampered by the "I'm not in the frozen otherworld so I know I'm not in danger" issue mentioned in the video, but it might make for a good scare for players that are unaware at least.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories is the loneliest game that I have played when I was at my worst and it helped me cope. I will never forget when at the end of the game, the psychologist said something along the lines of... "don't blame yourself, blame your family, blame society, blame god, blame me" and it was about self destruction. The game doesn't have enemies and it is better this way. The world becomes cold and distant.

In all honestly, I would love to see the idea of Cold Heart getting revived and made into a complete game. The idea of the game taking what you fear and forming it into your own personal hell is pretty frightening
I totally agree, and this would be more plausible on modern consoles, considering all the features the game was intended to have. I really hope it gets a revisit one day, as it sounds like it would be an incredible game.

To be fair to that Psychology Warning at the start of the game I don't think there's a single Silent Hill game that doesn't come with something similar at the start. I used to think it was to warn players but now the more I play SH1 I think it was there to condition them for the game.
its still a bit fun though that SM wasnt the first one to scan what you do, i mean, SH2 was probably the first SH game that would look at what you do through the game and then decide how it will play out, like, the endings to SH2 could be different all about how you play the game, for an example you could get the good ending if you were inspecting the letter from mary often!
Or get the bad ending if you checked on Maria too often when she was in the hospital and such!
I also love how no one even knew about the game testing you in SH2!
That way it wasnt all in your control since you didnt know it were happening!

I replayed this game so damn much, and I loved it so damn much and the plot twist is so great! You totally forgot to mention though that when you find out its Cheryl in the chair that one of the things that makes sense is the other world sections, you notice that everytime you are about to find out Harry is actually dead, everything freezes which is Cheryls denial. And you also forgot to mention that the game doesn't only change of how you act during the "sessions" but what makes this game so great is that it also has to do with where you LOOK, looking away, staring him in the eyes or looking at his dick, has an impact, or when you explore silent hill the game changes depending on if you look at a girls tits all the time, or at sexy posters or not looking at them at all. Its such a little detail I love it
there's also the alcohol, staring at that a lot can also have an effect.

Did you know that the monsters are not hurting you they just hold you until you lose enough body heat that you collapse? And they don't hurt you, they just pet you after that in a reassuring way that everything is going to be alright? It's sad as fuck knowing the ending. Damn, just thinking about the ending is killing me.
I'm honestly surprised that Konami hasn't released and HD Remaster of Shattered Memories onto the PS4.

@@kingi-sick2485 I get that and honestly I do kind of agree that these remakes were pretty bad after having had a chance to replay 3 and play through 2 on the original hardware.
While I don't think the games after 4, were great, I did find enjoyment in Origin, Shattered Memories, and Downpour while honestly thinking that Homecoming was pretty bad. Though I honestly think that Homecoming had it's good points (descent to hell is honestly a great Silent Hill level with Scarlet legitimately being one of the freakiest bosses in the franchise) the fact that the game was written by 5 different people shows through a lack of focus or real character development in a way that Silent Hill 2 didn't do vastly better.
That said, there is a new game coming out with Ito returning as the art director, so at the very least we'll have cool enemy designs and Pyramid Head will not be showing up (because Ito doesn't reuse his designs). I'll definitely give it a chance if not only for the art direction.

For me, Shattered Memories and Downpour were still inherently good games, even if they were not scary. I still had fun. Anyone getting angry and hung up on the non-scary factor is missing out.

Oooh, I loved this game. Sadly it made me hit my girlfriend at the time pretty hard. Not on purpose. The game makes you shake the wii motes to shake off the enemies and I didn't realize she was that close to me an "bam!" right in the face. During a part that actually startled me too, so it was kind of like I got so scared that I elbowed her face in retaliation. She wasn't aware of that mechanic of it either and I was super engrossed in it.
I recently was given a broken wii that I got working and this was the first game I got for it. This and Fatal Frame 4. Anyway, I found this game mind blowing on a lot of levels. The first of which being that I had the wii during it's generation cycle and had no idea that this game came out or that it was as good as it was. I stumbled across it a little after the Wii U had been out and I had pretty much just realized that the Wii U was a whole other system and not just an add on like I thought for the longest time.
So... is she still your girlfriend after that...?? 😂 I'm so sorry...

This game is a highlight of the franchise and it's one of Wii's few masterpieces that take advantage of the console. The game design is just so good, it actually looks better than SH Homecoming on a PS3, and the puzzle mechanics are very satisfying and varied (since player choices affect map layout)
Great review as always (Love the opening bits for these Silent Hill videos), though I have to admit i'm surprised to hear Downpour being considered the worst of the post Team Silent entry since most folks I know say Book of Memories is the worst post-TS Silent Hill game whereas Downpour is more of a love/hate affair. Speaking of, any plans to review that next year or in the future?

Oh my goodness, it's so rare to meet other people who liked Shattered Memories! Shattered memories is the only SH game I played and finished- and Ive played multiple times with my friend. While staying the night at her place we played on the PS2 and first time She played it coz I was scared, the second time I played it and she was surprised to see how different it all went - the story lines literally split to different directions for us - and the third time we played taking turns after each psychologist segment, coz we wanted to know wether our previous segments carried over. Before anyone asks - more or less, some parts played much like my first play through, some got mixed together
The story is possibly one of the few examples i can think of when a remake manage to be good and unique despite being a remake. But i can understand why people dont like this considering the too simple gameplay and puzzle and the fact that you are too safe in the world that doesnt filled with ice. Gamers most of the time look for gameplay advantage instead of the story so i can understand their complaint. But the good story and choices, mixed with the unique psychological aspect of the game is the thing that truly saved this game and for me personally, i enjoyed it
Yea shattered memories is just as good as the original 4 imo. It may not be scary, but the strong connection between shattered memories silent hill and the protagonist makes it a hit for me.
I am so glad you said all this. Shatteted Memories is one of my favorite games. It is an absolute delight. Even if it's not scary at all. So many people judge it without giving it a real chance.
