Kevin, thanks to you, I just dropped my first YT episode of Diary of a Crappy Catholic. I have been working on the second episode and have been re-recording like crazy because it isn't "perfect." After your video and after this comment, I'm going to go back, record it, and put it in the channel. I am 59 and was recently let go from my second job in a row. Let's see where this new road leads. Thank you for doing this work. Yo've made an impact on this guy.
Start. The nerves are about how you will be received. They'll keep you immobilised and they will keep coming if they can. Conquering the nerves only comes by doing. Have an idea and go with it. Commit to sharing it. It's going to mutate but development archs aren't monsters. To me - it's a lot like how water finds channels and splits rocks. There will be the occasional terminal direction change. There may be times where you convince yourself you have one particular mission when it turns out to be something else. So start. You can't develop if you don't.
I started as a full time TH-camr at 58, never thought I'd be building the Starship Enterprise as a full time job. My channel is up on 20K subs now, it's hard work, but it's a blast!
I started my long form videos in Sept 2023 after deliberating forever on doing it. Finally, I heard Andy Frisella say something about being okay with being bad at something when you start, but you have to start. So finally I did. Ran across your channel one day when I had no idea I was looking for it. I am really enjoying the content. Keep up the great work.
Hi Kevin. I referred your channel to a nurse about 56 yo while at a medical appointment and she was administering an EMG on me. She wanted to retire after caring for her special needs son who was about to enter college but money was her biggest concern. I told her I recently found you and you presented the clearest and easiest way to create a TH-cam channel I had seen. I have been a TH-cam content consumer from around 2010 after brain surgery. Wait a minute, I thought! Kevin is talking to me. I'm 90 yo and being a content creator could be among the easiest things I have ever done. I'm a retired architect with a mountain load of hobbies acquired from age four. For example, I became a private pilot. After brain surgery, the FAA rejected renewal of my required medical certificate because I was on medication. No matter how I tried to find a way around this problem - no joy! However, my determination led me to an alternative solution. I assembled a flight simulator and now I can fly wherever I want to go from my home with pretty much any aircraft I want. Never tell a woman "she can't." Thanks to you, I'm starting my TH-cam channel because I have a lot to say.
Hello everyone! I am also 40 years old (1984) and am starting my journey on TH-cam with my new channel. This video is truly inspiring! I believe it’s never too late to pursue our passions. I hope we can all grow and learn together in this community. Thank you for sharing your valuable thoughts!
When you said “if you’re waiting for perfection” that hit me hard. I’ve recorded and edited and not uploaded cause I get to the point where I’m thinking I’m not showing up on video as confident as I am in real life. Thank you for the encouragement, I commit to hitting publish by Nov 10 - if not sooner! Congrats on 50k subscribers!
I bet many people are going back to check that hair ball out! Thanks for this imformation. I "just started" back in 2021 and I'm still using the same equipment, mobile phone, old pc, free apps and guitar. It's all I need. Congrats on the 50K subs!
Thanks for this video - great perspective! I’ve just started my channel, and posted my first video yesterday. This hits precisely at the issues I’m currently facing.
Hi Kevin, love what you're doing here. I'm 67 and have been on TH-cam for 11 years now. I've been doing Q&A based tech support since 2003 publishing articles on my site and now augmented with video. (I won't pimp it here but I'm easy to find. It's not the ID I'm signed in with here.) What I wanted to say, though, is that your points are SPOT on. Get started. Show up. Don't shoot for perfection, shoot for improvement. Absolutely. When I look at my older videos I absolutely cringe, but that's how you start -- by starting. Coincidently my tech support audience also tends to skew older, more like the over 60 range. Encouraging people to not be afraid of technology, that they can do this, is so critical for so many reasons. I'd love to see your work succeed even more here. Congrats on 50k. :-) -Leo Notenboom
Kevin, just to let you know that my wife and I are in that age group that your content totally relates to this stage in life. We're in our late 50's early 60's and we launched our channel on Oct 14, 2024. I used your episode on how to set up a YT channel since it was very helpful. We both enjoy art and adventure so that's our content. We're having fun and it's hard work but it has given us a new way to express ourselves. We're getting closer to retirement and we want to focus on fun things we like and share this with others. Thx for your content and sage advice. Cheers and Happy birthday 🎉🎉🎉
I’m 53 and I started my TH-cam channel with shorts earlier this year and I stopped bc I wasn’t getting subscribers for a while. Then I left for like 2 months and got 3 new subscribers! Then I saw your videos and I started it up again. Got 20 new subscribers. I have a different outlook on it bc of your encouraging videos. Thank you 😊
Thank you for continuing to be real with those over 40 (me included). I had all those thought and fears about creating and putting myself out there but I did it. A few months ago I started creating videos and a YT channel and learned how to make a website. They aren’t phenomenal but I enjoy it and learning. Using the gear I already have too. So if I can do it so can you. Just enjoy learning new things and the journey!
I had my 1st short up when I found you. Learning from you and praise God for another brother in Christ. Thanks for the tips and encouragement. Going to post #4 Video tonight .
40 was 30 years ago... How time flys! I'll burst upon the world soon, new channel planned and piecing stuff together! Great Video, Kevin - I'm wierd, I just like listening to you!
Hello Kevin, thanks very much for this video. My wife and I just started our joint TH-cam channel and have two videos out so far and filming this weekend for the third one. We are enjoying your content and really like your relaxed and straight forward manner. Thanks again and all the best.
I’m one of the “over 40” who was encouraged to start because of you, Kevin! (After THINKING about it for months!) As a recovering perfectionist, the “oh I should’ve”s after posting kills me, but I’m proud for STARTING finally! No way to learn other than to DO it! So thank you! 🎉
I just uploaded my first video, and I am 50 years old. I must say, taking your advice and "JUST DOING IT" made all the difference in the world. My video isn't great I know... BUT, I DID IT! Thank you for the encouragement.
What you said is resonating with me today. I think what I am doing is trying to hard to be like other people. To duplicate their work, to mimic what they are doing. Instead I need to be me. I love tech, I love toys and gadgets. I keep trying to figure out how to 'educate' people on the things I love that is just like everyone else. But you know what maybe I should just talk about it my way. Thanks for the encouraging words and we'll see where this goes.
Your video gave me the guts to get in front of the camera about a month ago.I started a classic TV Movie channel about 4 months ago. It was mostly to teach myself to edit. I fluked a couple of popular videos. At the moment my viewership is very low but I'm building an amazing community of like minded souls and loving my retirement. Thanks for the sincere content you provide
I just started watching you and already have learned quite a bit - I have always been a little shy about camera / videos, but I knew I had to do this for myself. I started my channel about 2 years ago, but got more serious recently and my channel has already gain 35 new subscribers in less than 2 months because I changed my content a bit. I feel much better about and am liking making videos now.
I've been watching you for a little while now and you were very inspirational. I'm 66. I just finally put up my first video all about how hard it was to get that first video started. I like your thoughts about just be you, imperfections and all. That is what I plan on doing.
Thanks for putting this out here. I am 47 and started in September. It’s these kind of videos that inspire me to keep going. Great info simply made.❤it. I’m on 33 and counting. Thanks for what you’re doing brother.
Congratulations Kevin!! 🎉 I’m sore you’ll continue to grow based off of what I’ve seen thus far! I can truly say, you motivated me to just get started! They aren’t good but they are out there lol. I really appreciate you! Thank you!!
I just found this channel and am happy I found it. I just started my youtube channel a week ago. I'm 52 and was wondering if I was maybe a bit too old to be starting upon this endeavor. Then I watched this. Thank you for giving me a little bit more confidence in what I'm doing. Subscribed.
Man! I love your content... You are so a genuine person... Your content always makes me smile, I need to start that first step for real... Thanks again!
you are inspiring sooo many people that you are an inspiration! I just want to say, Thank you for your encouraging words and thank you for putting these videos out. It has really given me the courage to record my own videos and just be myself!! Thank you, Kevin!!! Cheers from Atlanta, GA!!
Hi Kevin. You already know I appreciate your encouragement down here in the South if France. Another doozy video here. I'm 9 hours ahead of you and hope with all my heart that everything goes in the right direction there today 5/11. It's kind of strange that the election is on the same day as fireworks night in the UK (where I was born). Bon courage as we say in these parts.
I’m really enjoying your videos Kevin, thank you. You have a gift for giving realistic advice, while still always presenting it in a positive light. Greetings from Oregon!
Thank you, Kevin! I’m one of your since-August (2024) subscribers. Your settings advice have really helped me, and this video just gave me a great idea for a new video series. Thank you for being here. (Edit: I agree on remakes, although I think the Harrison Ford version of “Sabrina” is superior. Def not the norm, for sure. Sequels usually fall into the same category, and aren’t as good as the first one.)
Hi Kevin, Greetings from Portugal. I have started my Chanel here and ONLY here thanks to The video you mentioned. My Chanel is, for now, divided between me and my 10 year old son who got his channel inactive because of his age. But anyway, Just wanted to let you know you inspired me to post video and i'm 44 😊. Congrats on the 50.000 subscribers milestone on TH-cam! All the Best!
I started! Two weeks ago I put up my first real videos. I've had an account since 2007 but I used it for clients and fun. I've been cleaning it up making a lot of videos private that don't fit my theme but leaving the ones that do. Now I'm moving forward.
That was the video I subscribe to your channel, I'm almost 46 and working on film myself (trying not to feel weird in front of a camera), getting the tools needed to start like storytelling, etc. Thank you for your inspiring work, greetings from Costa Rica.
Hi Kevin, I came across your channel the other day, watched a video and immediately subscribed! I find you to be very inspiring, not pretentious, and you absolutely make sense! I’m always looking for ways to improve my channel but I am definitely being me!! Thank you for sharing your wisdom and professionalism!!
I’ve been thinking, hesitating and second guessing myself for a few years now on whether to start a channel and how. I like your straightforward and clear approach to getting started. And in regards to that very last recommendation to get started, you have defiantly lit that fire. I’m going to post!
You do have a good voice man, who cares about a fool's opinion. What I find interesting as a creative, is that firstly, it seems to me that the pinnacle of creativity is independent film. Been a graphic designer since 2005 and in the later part of my career went into 3D product illustration to supplement. Had decent success but I always questioned whether my good fortune was the result of my work, or just piggybacking on a successful business. Started a YT channel about something other than creative work for a couple of reasons, one because I wanted to spread a message about something that was important to me, and two, because I wanted to put my skills to the sword in a different medium. It's been early days but I'm really enjoying it and FCP is always whispering to me to get moving! Hope you get 20 million subscribers mate.
Congratulations for over 50K subscribers! Your content is great, and I appreciate your personal, down to earth, simplistic style. My channel is just a couple of months old, I have 43 subscribers (organic), and thankful for each and every one. Having a channel is not for the faint in heart, and at 63 years old, the learning curve has been steep, yet worth it.
Thanks Kevin for these tips. I truly appreciate your transparency. I plan on starting my channel very soon and I have learned so many wonderful tips and advice from watching you.
I started my channel 1 1/2 years ago. I’m 52 and do drum covers and just hit 230 subscribers. I have now learned that trying to chase subs is not worth it. I have just started including some different kinds of videos, all drumming and life as a drummer related. And Kevin, what you said about trying to be perfect, I just roll with it. I actually just posted a video of ONLY my screwups. Pretty ridiculous…
Over 40? Yeah, I'm 78 and just now planning to build a TH-cam channel. My problem is that I am caught up in the "research" mode (including watching your videos). I have created a new channel (Your Best Retirement Life) but nothing on it yet. The stumbling block - If I never try, I cannot fail. Working to get past that, and your videos are a great inspiration. Thanks.
Thank you, thank you Kevin for another great video! I always watch yours right to the end. Great advice and support. Excitement and appreciation from north of Toronto Ontario.
Great quote from C.S.Lewis I have seen you at this for a long time and your consistency, really happy that your channel is growing stronger and stronger.
Almost there! Your videos help so much! I got the channel named and started just need to get the first post done! Thank you for making it easier to understand! Ereyn
Thank you. Your video motivated me and I did a few videos since and I missed doing one this past weekend as my son had major surgery and now during week at my 9 to 5 ao was feeling bad that I missed doing a video, so appreciated your message today. My 9 to 5 is currently 1:30 pm to 10 pm lol but just have enough during the week. I could handle after work but have roommates us golden girls lol so they would not appreciate but any way Thank You!
Thanks for charing god content. Im back on track again with my channel after a few years pause and with lot of new subscribers and a plan for what i will do it feels great. Your videos have been working as really inspiring “pep talk” the last week. Thanks! 🙏
Oh man! I missed the contest! Loving your videos. I’m just getting started, seeing what I enjoy making. Learning editing is a good mid-life crisis diversion challenge for me. 😂 Thank you for the positive attitude and encouragement!
I am 71 coming up on 72. I did one little video awhile back then chickened out. But I came across your channel and am going to jump in. I love to teach arts and crafts. I live off the joy someone has on their face when they create something they were SURE they could not do. I have a ton of other things I can teach as well. So that’s what I am going to do. I have a terrible voice and have never done videos. But what’s the worst that could happen? Thank you for sharing your thoughts and advice!!
@KevinKolbe I use to go back to your video to help me post. I can now do it without having to watch it. As with most things the more I do it, better I get. Without your video I would have struggled a lot more.
Just uploaded my first video. It's just a brainstorming session so I could practice talking to the camera. But I uploaded it and sent the link out to friends and family so they could watch and give feedback. 2 of my daughters and one of my best friends are active streamers so they are excited to have me finally joining in.
Hi Kevin thank you for the video and talk you are right I’m am burned out after 19 years of corporate world and in few years I am out and I wanted to do something else I saw about 4 years ago people at my firm leaving cause they were making money on you tube. After three years I reached 1k an now I am focus on 4K hours to get monetize. I want to tell your audience we are all going to make TH-cam not easy and you are never too old to start. Thank you
Kevin, I’m so glad I found your channel. Awesome info! Thanks to you, I am in the process of getting video together to cover the construction of a new workshop behind the house. I have been using the iPhone and trying to learn CapCut to put it together. Looking forward to the experience!
Great video and lovely tips, be yourself is so important, that’s why I follow people because I like them, not because they’re edgy, or stylish or anything like that.
Hey Kevin, Thank you for sharing, I crated my channel and little over a year, and I have been struggling on how to provide the best content, my channel is about model car building, I also have some one of a kind sci-fi cars and robots I created out of plastic bottles, I like to think I'm a artist in that aspect, I don't mind talking on camera, but sometimes my accent get in the way and it gets frustrating at times, and so for the last two months I have created a Cars and Coffee series where I take shots of these 1/24 scale cars and i try my best to make them look as real as possible.. Watching this video makes me realize that yes no one is perfect and my models are definitely not perfect lol and so most of my models are the old barn find type of style, I think those really tell a story without saying anything.. Thank you for your time to read this. I know it was long. Till next time. MARS.
Thanks, I needed the pep talk. I'm 50 I've had a 6way bypass and had a gastric bypass also and I'm 100 pounds lighter, and trying to get it out there about to do my second upload woo-hoo!!
Great video and insight! As my channel seems to be stagnant a bit I am working on the next way to “change it up” and still “be me”. I spent 15 years in a creative services department as well so I think I got it in me to find something fresh to say and how to say it. Well I hope so anyway. Thanks for keeping my lantern lit so I can stay on my path on the ‘tube.
I’m 51 and just was released from my job. My dream is to do podcasts and begin living and doing my passion. Thank you for your videos and inspiring me. My goal is live by 11/15. My channel will be called Keeping it Simple Jen Style. A channel of inspiration and empowerment. Keep going you are doing amazing!
Sorry to hear about the job but thankful this video helped! Keep creating!

I subscribed!
@@carsonhess1070 Thank you! I just finished the second video. Lots of work but lots of fun!
Great title Crappy Catholic, Love it!
I’ve started with shorts. It’s faceless for now. But I got 4 followers this week. Yay!
4 more than you had!
@@lunazamoraart Yaay!! Keep going
Congrats! That's some inspiration for me. I feel like we're all capable of having a really active TH-cam with a solid amount of support ❤ 💪
I’m stoked for the over 40 crowd to get on TH-cam. So much wisdom and good vibes to share with this community. Let’s go! 🔥
Let's go indeed! 👊
Yes!! 😀🎉🎉
Thanks Kevin ❤

One of my favorites
@KevinKolbe not only a quote but rather a chapter or a book of itself alone.. infact its my best quote of 2024

I'm 9 hours ahead of you and hope with all my heart that everything goes in the right direction there today 5/11. It's kind of strange that the election is on the same day as fireworks night in the UK (where I was born). Bon courage as we say in these parts.
Thanks. Have a great fireworks night!
I’m really enjoying your videos Kevin, thank you. You have a gift for giving realistic advice, while still always presenting it in a positive light. Greetings from Oregon!
I appreciate that! Thank you!
Thanks for being here!
We can't be what we're we're not.
Absolutely, we're far from perfect.
Thanks for your content 😊
Thank you!
How cool! Thank you!
I started! Two weeks ago I put up my first real videos. I've had an account since 2007 but I used it for clients and fun. I've been cleaning it up making a lot of videos private that don't fit my theme but leaving the ones that do. Now I'm moving forward.
Love it!
Congrats on +50 000 subscribers. 🥳 That's amazing. Great video. Thank you. 😊
Thanks!
That was the video I subscribe to your channel, I'm almost 46 and working on film myself (trying not to feel weird in front of a camera), getting the tools needed to start like storytelling, etc. Thank you for your inspiring work, greetings from Costa Rica.
Just go for it and hey from the US
Hi Kevin, I came across your channel the other day, watched a video and immediately subscribed! I find you to be very inspiring, not pretentious, and you absolutely make sense! I’m always looking for ways to improve my channel but I am definitely being me!! Thank you for sharing your wisdom and professionalism!!
Really appreciate that, thank you
Congrats on hitting the 50k mark, and here's to getting to another 50k 🎉🙏
@@willis1777 thank you!
I’ve been thinking, hesitating and second guessing myself for a few years now on whether to start a channel and how. I like your straightforward and clear approach to getting started. And in regards to that very last recommendation to get started, you have defiantly lit that fire. I’m going to post!
Go for it!
Appreciate it. Big FCP user here.
Definitely worth it yes! Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful voice, brother. Lovely spirit.
Thank you kindly!
Thanks Kevin for these tips. I truly appreciate your transparency. I plan on starting my channel very soon and I have learned so many wonderful tips and advice from watching you.
Go for it!
Thanks.
It's so easy to stay in that research mode and not just start. Been there, still go there some too. 😁
Your voice is just fine for me. Please keep it up!
Thank you, Kevin. I appreciate you keeping it real.
I appreciate that
Congrats for 50k. God’s very best to you!
Thank you so much and you too!
Thank you, thank you Kevin for another great video! I always watch yours right to the end. Great advice and support. Excitement and appreciation from north of Toronto Ontario.
Wow! So glad to hear that! Thanks and hey from the US.
Thanks Kevin! I'm over 50 and just started my channel. Your videos are a great help on this new adventure.
Adventure it is! Thanks!
Great quote from C.S.Lewis
I have seen you at this for a long time and your consistency, really happy that your channel is growing stronger and stronger.
Much appreciated, thank you!
Almost there! Your videos help so much! I got the channel named and started just need to get the first post done! Thank you for making it easier to understand! Ereyn
You got this!
Be you! Yes, absolutely be you.
Thank you so much, I recently found so glad I did I’ve been very inspired to continue my journey in TH-cam ! Thank you Kevin and God bless 🙏
You are so welcome
Do what you can when you can.
Thanks for charing god content. Im back on track again with my channel after a few years pause and with lot of new subscribers and a plan for what i will do it feels great. Your videos have been working as really inspiring “pep talk” the last week. Thanks! 🙏
Appreciate that, thanks!
You always have useful and inspirational vids, thanks from Oz for the boost in motivation you give me every time I watch!
My pleasure!
Over 40 here and got 26 subscribers! Keep going 😊
Congrats on the 26 subs!
Congrats on the 50k! You inspire me, learn from you and most importantly enjoy your shows!
I appreciate that!
You are an inspiration to us all!!!
@@djstrick appreciate that and you too bro.
Absolutely true...show up. ❤❤😊
Thank you, Kevin. Everything in this video is helpful.
So good to hear that, thanks!
Thanks so much, Kevin. You are always so inspiring!
I appreciate that!
Oh man! I missed the contest!
Loving your videos. I’m just getting started, seeing what I enjoy making. Learning editing is a good mid-life crisis diversion challenge for me. 😂 Thank you for the positive attitude and encouragement!
Appreciate it. Even though the contest is over, you can still check out the bundle here: amzn.to/4fhvyvh
Very cool! Cheering for you!
Thank you for sharing, mate. Really appreciate your hints, and I'm super motivated to start pushing.
Go for it!
About 1 months ago I launched my channel. I have 10 videos. YOUR channel taught me how.
Wow! Really appreciate that, thank you!
@KevinKolbe I use to go back to your video to help me post. I can now do it without having to watch it. As with most things the more I do it, better I get.
Without your video I would have struggled a lot more.
Congrats. Fingers crossed on the give-away 🤞🏽
Just uploaded my first video. It's just a brainstorming session so I could practice talking to the camera. But I uploaded it and sent the link out to friends and family so they could watch and give feedback. 2 of my daughters and one of my best friends are active streamers so they are excited to have me finally joining in.
Let's go!
Show up and be yourself . There will always be the what-qifs. Thanks for this reminder
Sure thing.
So thankful for your advice. I hope to get started soon. Considering the one take method.
Then you're gonna love my next video about doing a one take video!
Thank you
Inspiring as always! Thanks for the pep talk 🙂
Kevin, I’m so glad I found your channel. Awesome info! Thanks to you, I am in the process of getting video together to cover the construction of a new workshop behind the house. I have been using the iPhone and trying to learn CapCut to put it together. Looking forward to the experience!
Very cool! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this Vlog. 👍 Enjoyed it again. So informative.
So glad!
Entered! Just came here to say I really enjoy your style, delivery and content. Thanks for inspiring us older creators. Have a good one!
Thank you! You too!
Inspirational words mate. I needed to hear this. I'm on the verge of adding a vlog to my channel
Vlogging is one of my favorite types of videos. Have fun!
Thanks Kevin @@KevinKolbe
I created my account last July and never post until recently, just started short videos hoping to grow..Thank you for your advice..
9:03 I believe you’re thinking of “TV’s Bloopers and Practical Jokes.” I seem to recall it airing Monday nights in the 1980s on NBC. 😊
That's it!
Thanks for the words of encouragement
Sure thing!
Great video and lovely tips, be yourself is so important, that’s why I follow people because I like them, not because they’re edgy, or stylish or anything like that.
Thanks
Hey Kevin,
Thank you for sharing, I crated my channel and little over a year, and I have been struggling on how to provide the best content, my channel is about model car building, I also have some one of a kind sci-fi cars and robots I created out of plastic bottles, I like to think I'm a artist in that aspect, I don't mind talking on camera, but sometimes my accent get in the way and it gets frustrating at times, and so for the last two months I have created a Cars and Coffee series where I take shots of these 1/24 scale cars and i try my best to make them look as real as possible..
Watching this video makes me realize that yes no one is perfect and my models are definitely not perfect lol and so most of my models are the old barn find type of style, I think those really tell a story without saying anything..
Thank you for your time to read this. I know it was long.
Till next time. MARS.
@@marsgarage8217 sounds cool. Thanks for sharing
Amazing video. Thanks for this info.
Thank you so much!
Thanks again Kevin!
If you can do it, anybody can!! Great video!
Thanks!
Great advise.
Thanks, I needed the pep talk. I'm 50 I've had a 6way bypass and had a gastric bypass also and I'm 100 pounds lighter, and trying to get it out there about to do my second upload woo-hoo!!
Congrats on doing better physically!
Thanks for posting your empowering video, Kevin! It was... "perfect!" ;)
You're so welcome! Thank you.
Hey to another former CD person!
Sorry about the job. Pumped to hear you're ready to create! You might want to check out my latest book Video Podcasting Made Easy: amzn.to/3AFXUQJ
