I still have one of the original Soundlink minis. Still loving it as much as I did many years ago. The battery continues to last many hours after all this time.

I purchased the Bose Soundlink Mini 2 back in 2015 when it first came out. The lithium battery just failed this month - November 2023. I'm pretty handy at replacing things. (If I read the directions properly.) The Bose Sounlink Mini? It is easy to replace the battery and replacement batteries are easily available (in Canada/USA). Not so much with the Mini 2. The battery is hardwired to the motherboard. Oh. (I'm not so good at soldering things together or taking apart - and apparently it is one heck of a job even if you are good.) And the batteries are not readily available for purchase. So........I started looking at replacements these last few days. I don't need anything waterproof or sandproof....I use it when I don't want to scare my neighbours with my home stereo system (B&W). The short of it all? Even though this is obviously an older item (ancient really in this day and age of replace everything every year or so), I really cannot find anything that seems more suitable for my needs. I did look at the JBL products. (Not so impressed.) So, I'm crossing my fingers that it will go on sale during the Black Friday sales, and I'll be purchasing another one. Sometimes the classics ARE the best.
Thanks for a great review Andrew Peterson.

Thanks for the great review, very informative and professional. I have the original SoundLink Mini for about 7 or 8 years. It came with a tray charger that is sometimes difficult to connect and the power on button sometimes difficulty to turn on. After 8 years I think that is pretty good. It is still working great and sounds great. By far my favorite speak for use outside on the pool deck/Lani. I am considering buying the SoundLink Mini 2 on Bose website offered this week for $50.00 off the $199.00 price. If you buy two and additional $25.00 off the second unit. As a side note, I just picked up the Bose SoundLink flex SE at Costco's this week on discount for $99.00. I have not tried it yet but it sounded great in store on demo stand. I love the Mini so will probably be buying one or two and give one to my Mom and also kept the Flex se as well for more use away from the house on boat and beach.

By now you may have tried the flex, can you do a quick comparison between the mini 2 and flex? Im thinking of using the mini 2 for my computer speaker.

I haven’t seen it compared head-to-head with the Flex. I currently have them both but haven’t opened the Mini 2 SE because in plan to return it. But I’d love to see the Flex against it.

I wonder how it compares to the flex.

Nothing comes close to the Soundlink Mini II.
Had this for many years, and whilst the purpose is portability, this not only packs the same punch as many fixed mid-range speakers, it looks discrete enough that you can just leave it in one place and enjoy its amazing sound. Price and Bose is always a contentious point, but I’m sure many here have paid for enough BT speakers throughout the years that they could have enjoyed this with no regrets on the initial outlay and investment.

Got mine for about $65 in tokyo.
Listening to this vid with that right now. Lol
Its so solid and heavy like those old premium quality speakers, which weighs like a rock because of the pure copper coils. They don't make them like they used to anymore... Except for bose.

According to what I have read, both should have the same size battery. But 1 uses a battery plug which makes battery replacement much easier, while 2 is soldered on. The only things that make the battery last longer on the bose soundLink 2 are that you have less bass and that the bass turns down faster when you turn the volume up and that you can no longer play as loud.
you get a speaker with a poorer sound with less bass and a weaker amplifier only to play approx. 3 hours longer.
bose SoundLink 2 has too little bass and too much treble. It has (loadnes) that make the bass turn down when you get closer to 50% volume

How do you connect 2 of these together to create 2 speaker stereo on a note 20 ultra?

Onyx is bigger and fuller. So bigger dinamics. The onyx 7 is better.

The bose flex at $149 is just to much money. The speaker is not all that hype.sounds like a little transister radio. The music is not clear.

Over estimating this speaker. Not worth $150 . sound gets distorted .
