    Hey I just wanted to say I really really appreciate your videos. They're such a big help, I'm about to get a new PC and it's gonna have Gentoo on it! You explain things in a way that makes it very easy to understand for newbs like me. Thanks a lot!

    To clarify since you questioned it in the video. If you use systemd you dont use elogind. They actually cant be installed at the same time even. Elogind is logind extracted from systemd. If your using any of the non-systemd desktop, gnome or plasma profiles it should automatically be installed too since they all have USE="elogind".

      yeah learned that in my current install

      yeah you dont need elogind if you used systemd. only in openrc

    I'm going to take a different route. I'm going to replicate my current dwm setup, but will swap PCManFM with Dolphin.
    It will pull in about 100 extra packages, but I do like KDE a lot and want to merge it with a Tiling Window Manager setup.
    A note to Thunderbird users on Nvidia: Today, I realized that on my system, Thunderbird will fail to start with the latest Nvidia 550 drivers installed. I needed to roll back the upgrade, and everything was fine again.

    Good vid! I finally jumped over to Gentoo after not using it since 2008. Got it up and running on my laptop and desktop with sway. Do you use pipewire or pulseaudio usually? I am having a hard time getting pipewire up and running but pulseaudio seems to work great.

    • @linuxtechgeek
      @linuxtechgeek  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On my actual install I’m using pulseaudio at the moment but I’ve been thinking about making the switch over to pipe wire.. maybe another video?

    • @borremoonkey
      @borremoonkey ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you also emerge wireplumber?

    • @colbybraden
      @colbybraden ปีที่แล้ว

      @@borremoonkey yup. When I start sway audio won't start unless I open something like pulsemixer first. I have tried the gentoo-pipewire-launch script too and still no luck

    • @linuxtechgeek
      @linuxtechgeek  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@borremoonkey so I guess when I set the kde profile it will emerge wire plumber. I didn’t realize it was emerging pipe wire or pipe wire stuff until I was almost done lol. It works though, just had to start the services it told me to start

    • @borremoonkey
      @borremoonkey ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @linuxtechgeek yeah, I did a Gnome/systemd install and pipewire/wireplumber worked after enabling and starting the services. It took me a bit to figure out I didn't have wireplumber installed at first and was getting frustrated.
      But the system was working well.
      Unfortunately I had it installed on an old SSD which just died last night 😅.
      I have a new SSD I bought on sale a few weeks ago and now I know what to do with it 😂
      Going for a Gnome/systemd using the binhost to get big packages installed like Gnome.

    elogind is mentioned in the guide, the KDE guide not the Xorg guide 🙂
