- An interesting look at crime in the Darlinghurst/Kings Cross area in the mid-1980s. Heroin addicts, prostitiutes, 13 year old kids out at 1:30 in the morning playing video games...
Recorded from TCN-9 Sydney at 6:30pm on Wednesday 29 May 1985.
These Kings Cross cops acting so above everybody when they were the greatest crooks in Australian history
So bloody may cooks in may 2024 Adelaide norwood police ! And Sturt police too all corrupt with me it's been going on for over 10 years now with the cop's harassing me setting me up with in all my government appointments sabotaging me
i heard at one point the NSW police force was considered the most corrupt in the world when Roger Rogerson was caught and it was found that 80% of the force was on the payroll and they had to dismiss them. It was the largest dismissal of a police force world wide and possibly still currently held record.
Like 1960's-1970's
Nice PR excercise… happen to get a "tip off" while the camera crew was with them, but on all the other days, nothing…
lived there in the early -mid 80's. a dangerous & exciting place! now it's like an ice cream parlour with only 2 favours & everyone in bed by 9...
Fun times back then.
I’m been watching footage of 1960s 70s 80s London and the comments say there was less crime. Yet here the opposite. I work at night in the cross and all I see are little punks and the usual crazy homeless. It’s dead
And diversity !😊
These cops acting so judgemental towards these people were part of the most corrupt time in Australian policing
It was, but look at times now...People want the police to be hired bodyguards, thugs, clip kids over the ears. But when it's done its messy, awful.
Judgemental towards junkies and Prostitutes? How could they…
Yer and the cameras 😂😂😂 filth
@@cgoody9913 that's a good point.
I thought the cops handled every situation quite well
The Australian accent has certainly changed over the decades.
yeah now everyone sounds like a Yank
what they didnt show was all the people who got bashed by the cops back then.
I loved the excitement of kings cross as a kid ….. it was so much fun 🤩
Kings Cross....where the cops ran the drug and prostitution trade 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yep.
makes sense, why in the same decade was there an heroin epidemic internationally in the West. @@paul9511
They regulated it. Whoever paid the least, got "caught"…..
'we are the world' playing in the pinball parlour lol
There's also a game called 'Shooting Gallery"
Lpl
We are the Dope 😅😂
Was born in 1985, but love seeing this stuff from around the '80s.
Watching judgemental abusive cops?😅😂😂
Yeah but you wouldn't want to be where theses young boys are when off their tank drunk ! Theses fuckn cops bash them 😒
@@Tukinicolooking at thoses cop's in this video they would be corrupt it was that same time 1985 so thoses cop's would of been scums
same year as I was born. dammm mid- 80's was bad in sydney maybe worst period ever. sally anne huckstepp was still walking there then...
6:30 "We are the world" playing in the background... can't get more 80s than that.
Also the police have hopefully changed since then. They dont even try to hide their condescending manner on screen. Goodness knows what they were doing or saying off-screen.
Taking bribes + + +
Exactly! .💰☠️🤔👿👹👮
That was the 80’s, they were pretty much all on the take, a law unto themselves. They ran the drugs and the hookers. Times were very different back then.
Love that kid... "This is King's Cross!?!? Let's go home!!!" lol
“Where did you get the Heroin from?” “ ROGER ROGERSON Sir!”
1985 lol -,thats when the cops were the crooks
They always were, I grew up there. They didn't hide it.
Yeah, LOL, Nice cops for the camera! Usually you would cop a fat 💋
Still are .
They still are
@@265hemi7 yep
Those brothers were HAMMERED!!
Hope they still alive today and see this..
If it was me. Be like remember those days. Over cooked it that night.
Kings Cross, I’ve never seen the appeal of the place, it’s a s.hit hole, full of crappy overpriced nightclubs, bars and strip clubs.
not anymore, its all gentrified apartments. To be honest, good. I was in my clubbing years in 2007/2008/2009 and the Cross was awful even then. Just trashy and gross. I think the "soft spot" people have for the Cross is misguided an exists because they dont like change.
Exactly! Well said.
Well, in 2023, the Cross, no longer exists, just another gentrified boring Sydney Suburb.
The best moments were usually mid week when all the troublemakers from the suburbs weren’t there. It was what it was. I had some decent times.
Chook Fowler was most likely overlooked this and failed to called a ambulance
That was inside the old Astoria Hotel.
Loved the place travelled up there from Cabramatta every week end in the 90 party hard with my mates the best times
Cabramatta was were it was at too lol
Cabramatta was all junkies
Any chance of putting on YT Willisee's doco on the St.Kilda Police in 1984??
Sadly this is all the Willesee footage I have, I found it on a random tape I had lying around.
@@mubd1234sAussieMediaArchive oh ok, the doco Im talking about was really good and featured Ron Iddles as a sgt at St.Kilda.
@@craigmartin5939 st Kilda police , long corrupt and will never change .
I miss arcades
these days the effect can be seen from the older junkies in housing
Does this channel owner have the missing parts of this ? .
sadly this is all i have
@@mubd1234sAussieMediaArchive thanks! Interesting anyway ! .🙂
These jacks are all dead now
Don't know about that - but the motor cycle cop (leather jacket) with 1980"s mow with the large nose - putting the drunk into the padded cell is the same cop in file footage (again wearing the inner city Police motor-cyclists leather jacket, jodpurs etc) when Sally Anne Huckstepp was removed from the water when she was found dead in Centennial Park. He only lasted about 5 years in the Cops before he had to resign after being convicted of seriously assaulting someone arrested in a stolen car
Man this was a wild time in the world. Sure most of those cops were crooked as it gets
Different era indeed, how things have changed
I wonder how many of those cops were on bill Bayers payroll
Can't believe the police officer had his gun on whilst dealing with the young bloke in the charge room !!!
Humanity are junkie monkeys. I heard it said in those days that people ere getting knifed there every night. You would not be taking any chances with those little twerps.
No doubt the kids didn't go home because home wasn't safe :(
stop making assumptions.
go call their parents then
Where’s the dodger
I went to school with those ranga twins… Nathan and Morgan….. they were trouble back then. I often wonder what became of them!
Kain brothers? In and out of jail a lot Nathan was abducted and murdered in 07
@@rimecraigo yes that’s them…. They were never going to achieve much in life, you could see that back then. Got expelled from Patrician Bros and ended up at Blacktown Boys High. I believe one of them may have even been with Angelo Tsakos the night he was shot dead by police in Maryong!
Little goose balls selling their backsides for gear lol
Yeah it's real funny ..if you're into it
I bet the phonebooks were hidden away when the cameras arrived
It’s changed a lot since then. It’s not the same. Not even nearly.
Where's big Lenny McPherson ! Lol
"how old are you?" " Fourteen. . .I. . .mean ((cue sound of theremin)). . .fifty-four. ."
I feel sick watching this. Those kids would have been sitting ducks for the trash that lurked around that place.
The police were just as bad ! .🤔👿☠️🏴☠️
They would be in there 50s now
@@cryptolord9826 doubt they're alive
6:45 haha
I wonder where the cops are now
was there street fighter 2 at kings cross back then?
Nah, it hadn’t even been thought of back then. That was in the ‘90s
Watching this today makes me question my history..
Running/working Club Excalibur at the Cross was the best moments in time, in came with the riff-raff from players, walkers, runners, erchers, cor police, etc.. and to survive the bs media story such as underbelly banana or the attention. I'm glad i made right decisions..
Staying out of the lime light brings long-term benifits. It helps when not speaking of unwritten war stories..
Mike & Munroe, best media ever had...
Cant belioeve that 16 year old was "almost" unconcsious
Even worse now, theure on meth
Yep, they could quite decide. Didn’t have a coin to flip over it…😂
Danny Karam, should of been on this .
He was prob still locked up at this time
wrong decade old mate ..... you've been watching too much underbelly
He was probably getting being told to sit in the naughty corner at school still, not his decade…
I sure hope these cops aren't crooked.
So the guy is sitting in a police station in the mid 80s dies a few hours later of “heroin overdose” suss.
flat earther over here
I don't buy it !
Exactly bullshit
@@annydaysullysay pro vaxxer over here
@@annydaysullysay Nice lol
In 2023, those leggless teens need to be in hospital, not going home!
One can tell from the comments that people have been watching too much Underbelly. One can see what stuff like Underbelly was conveying, that being that it was a place of fun, excitement, and adventure ruined by interfering heavy-handed cops.
early work from mike monroe
@Documentary Detective IIwho is Mark Willesee?
Such compassion shown ….
In 2023 Kings Cross no longer exists, its just another boring gentrified Sydney Suburb.
Sad.
The rudeness of the cop telling the kid playing his game to look at him. he was only playing his game. He wasn't wandering the streets..
i wish cops did that today
Dude ....... the kid was 14 (if you believe him) and it was 1:15 in the morning in the middle of the X.. Should the cop have just politely waited till the kid was ready??
Shamefull policing
Cops called crooks for making sure people aren’t dying from drugs overdosing, making sure prostitutes are not hurt or raped.
Being stern when their parents should be the ones carings. Sadly hasn’t stopped; but it’s not the police’s fault or responsibility but they use stern sympathy.
Would you want this to be your family, your son or daughter. If it is I’m sorry because it’s not ok.
The police were literal crooks, as in selling drugs and murdering people.
7:30 did you seriously have to ruin historical footage?
I didn't censor the face, it was broadcast like this.
There's only a few reasons they would blot out someone's face back then,
if you're put in witness protection, or you're an informer.
Good old days of real policing 👏👏👏 not this wank wank of today!!!
Yeah the good old days when the cops were more crooks then these petty thevie addicts
