BOTH even hase chorus (that only sings for gods) chant both their names at the start of the songs! This musical is really great in overarching narratives and the way it presents gods meddling in human life as disaster wether they like you or not really cool. Had Odysseus not gotten prideful (by getting other gods' favours) they he wouldn't dream of trying to trick a cyclops, let alone a god himself. He did though, and it ends horribly. It really puts new spin on 'when does a man become a monster'.
@@crusaderthestranger5982 I think what Poseidon says makes the song into 'let me teach you' moment, where he shows Odysseus that for all he carries himself like he's among gods, he's trying to keep away from making any decisions and putting blame on others (which gods cannot do - there is nothing above them). So I think it's valid to think Poseidon might've killed Odysseus only and spared his crew for example, had Odysseus actually stood by his actions. This is also still the time of 'you pissed me off, go do random deadly quest' so Odysseus - a clever and liked hero with gods' favours - had a chance of that, too. I think in the end it doesn't matter much whether Poseidon was willing to spare Odysseus or not - the point of the apology was about Odysseus character and he failed it. I may be controversial but I am totally in support of Polythemus. I mean he lived on an island causing no real trouble & some humans come to kill his sheep. His FAVORITE sheep! It would be like having a pet pig & someone kills ot then offers you a drink to compensate eating you're best bud. Greek heroes wernt about being "heroic" or virtuous people. It's about being epic at everything you do, no matter how many innocents suffer in you're quest. You're a hero for being badass, nothing else.
That moment when someone unknowingly kills your pet sheep (part of a flock meant to be eaten) so you kill them and their entire city, and then eat them
That's a very good point actually. I feel the same way about Journey to the West. Monkey King also got a lot of free passes for killing people, he got way too much credit than what was actually due.
Listen, we knew Odysseus wasn't gunna be nice when he threw the baby off the wall, plus our man poisoned the wine before he even got told "Yeah I'm gunna eat you LAST since you were the nicest" Greek heroes don't do the whole nice thing, Odysseus was only "nice" by not killing the lotus eaters, which wasn't even really his choice
It also references Warrior of the Mind Warrior of the mind: "If you're looking for a mentor, I'll make sure your time's well-spent" "Goddess and man, best of friends?" My Goodbye: "You're not looking for a mentor, I'm not looking for a friend" "...what a waste of effort spent" Also, the third-to-last "This is my goodbye!" is sung to the tune of "You are a warrior of the mind"
I don't think it was pride so much as grief and anger, Athena's appearance and words made it worse, she was the last drop on the glass, the thing that made Odysseus finally burst and give himself away saying what he said
They do that in the rest of the songs too. It's brilliant because if anyone doesn't know the name of an important character their introduction is in the background sound. And I absolutely love it

me too. while yes, he was a monster. he was also the victim in this (mostly). these people come to his home, kill his favourite animal, then try to give him wine like that would equal his favourite pet. next, they could have left. could have tried to run. but no, they chose to fight. getting lots of people killed. then, with polythemus down, instead of leaving him, they attack, blinding him. then, instead of leaving him to suffer alone. His fellow cyclopes leave him, not understanding what he was saying. then athena tries to get the humans to kill him.
me just realizing that in remeber them the mythology ais kinda wrong because they escaed by riding on the bellies of them when the other cyclopes showed up (I think!!!)
Odysseus is a huge bastard! He killed the cyclop's best friend, then tricked him with a 'gift', so even if the cyclop did let them go, he'd still be drugged, then he blinded him, and didnt even finish the job. Odysseus is dumb. I understand Athena's choice of leaving
Arguably, he didn't know the sheep belonged to someone, the drugged wine would only put him to sleep (which is what wine already does), they blinded him in order to get him to move from the entrance safely, and odysseus was still trying to respect his late friend's message of being peaceful.
In the original, Odysseus gave the cyclops a lot of wine with a really high concentration and the cyclops got so drunk he passed out. In this version, Odysseus instead puts lotus in the cyclop's wine to make him pass out because as established in Open Arms lotus makes your mind go a lil wonky

Which song?
@@sadpan_duh2173 every one, actually! The main guy who sings reminds me of him very much. If I'm not wrong it's supposed to be Odysseus..?
@@snraijuu Yeah it's supposed to be Odysseus and yeah, that makes a whole lot of sense actually! I Can't unhear it now lol.
@@sadpan_duh2173 lol I'm sorry
idk why but remember them begining makes me feel when doom music kicks in
How dare you kill is favorite sheep, shame on you. shame. on. you.
I can’t be the only one that feels bad for Polyphemus right-
me too. while yes, he was a monster. he was also the victim in this (mostly). these people come to his home, kill his favourite animal, then try to give him wine like that would equal his favourite pet.
next, they could have left. could have tried to run. but no, they chose to fight. getting lots of people killed. then, with polythemus down, instead of leaving him, they attack, blinding him. then, instead of leaving him to suffer alone. His fellow cyclopes leave him, not understanding what he was saying.
then athena tries to get the humans to kill him.
They killed his poor pet sheep. I'd start smashing people with a club too if I were in his position.
and when we kill it our journey's over THEN WHY DID YOU NOT KILL GOD DAMN IT ODYSSEUS
THIS IS AMAZING
me just realizing that in remeber them the mythology ais kinda wrong because they escaed by riding on the bellies of them when the other cyclopes showed up (I think!!!)
pretty sure they hid behind rocks and then just ran
> Gestures around the stage
Look at all this food.
> Gestures around the crowd
Look at all these sheep.
Mercy is wise weapon
In Odysseus's case it's not
@@avamullins6814 lol
@@avamullins6814, it certainly is, if he had kept his mouth shut, that was the only problem, that he burst
Fuck this is cool
2:00 sounds like talk dirty to me
I can't unhear it now.
@@Kohaku_Tale I am so sorry
@@jaycantell7614 It's fine. Fanfics fix it.
Am I the only person that cant listen to pop music after this? Its just not satisfying
I'm so curious why Odysseus puts lotus in the wine.. Like who does he gave it for??
He spiked the wine to give to the Cyclops so he'd pass out and they could flee
In the original, Odysseus gave the cyclops a lot of wine with a really high concentration and the cyclops got so drunk he passed out. In this version, Odysseus instead puts lotus in the cyclop's wine to make him pass out because as established in Open Arms lotus makes your mind go a lil wonky
@@nataliamidzio I want to make your mind go a lil wonky.
Man heering the cyclops voice makes me whann here him do other greek monsters to see what he will come up with.
Well, we know Scylla's somewhere in the musical
this saga hits so hard
No fair guess I'll take second
Is this just an album of the Odyssey in music form?
Mhm!
Does anyone know if there is gonna be another saga?
There will be at least two other sagas, they just take some time to be recorded and edited.
I think i read somewhere that there will be 9 sagas with 40 songs in total
love this
So is this all going to be one musical then?
