Spiral... good one... We just planted 2 acres of trees in concentric circles.... birch, beech, maple, oak etc... looks higgledy piggledy, yet all the trees can be accessed by tractor. I'm looking forward to seeing the Drone shot too... H
It's a common misconception that honey bees are in need of protection. Actually, while they are experiencing some disease and pesticide pressures, they will most likely persist in large numbers. What are very much in need of protection are the ~270 other species of bees in the UK, many of which feed only from particular plant species or families or require specific habitats to survive. A lovely natural meadow and native trees like here are exactly what they need too though fortunately 👍
My understanding is that Oak isn't really a woodland species. This point has been made in the book Wilding by Isabella Tree. Beech or Hornbeam would be a better choice for natural woodland. However he's spaced them out well so maybe this is more of a mixed pasture.
Your not the only one having a bit of fun when planting, there are many interesting aerial shots that are the results of like minded foresters. :)
Great to hear there are more people doing similiar plantings, we need much much more!!!
Planting trees is one of the best things we can do for the environment and all life.
Couldn't agree more
What a lovely man
Would have loved to have a project like that. Buying a bigger field and turning it into a beautiful woodland and living in it.
Lovely ....wish it showed more of that woodland....love the bee hives!...crucial creatures for sure and on spiral decline for decades now....
It's a space for all creatures to shrive
Beautiful and brilliant approach 🧡🌻
Glad you think so!

Great how he has allowed the beekeeper to make use of the space and planting too for a peppercorn rent (or rather a honey jar rent)

We encourage all creatures to survive and thrive around our nursery.
Good Go ahead.God bless you
In 50 years it will turn into a beautiful woodland full of oaks, well we must wait and see what happens next.

Oaks are a woodland species, but in many environments they will be outcompeted by other more shade tolerant trees like beech or spruce.
I did give them lots of space as i know Oaks doesn't really like to be too close together.
That looks great and will be a lovely wood for future generations. Did you have to fence for deer?
no deer fencing needed for now.
Although the trees are beautiful, it’s a little ironic that his tree nursery company doesn’t sell any oak trees.
We do grow and sell them, but don't have them in stock all the time. Our next batch will be ready next lifting season 2024.
Why does he cut the grass once a year?
That is what grazers would do in the wild. In order to allow different flowering plants to thrive.
It does help if you drop the cuttings still much better to graze it with sheep for a short period but only once trees are established.
The bees are a foreign strain who compete in large numbers against native solitary bees. Not good for biodiversity.
i hope they are not in the path of HS2!
Hopefully not in Devon. 🤞
Far from it! Don't think a high speed train will ever be built to Torquay!
