My 15-year-old mostly blind dachshund wandered off of our property. Someone picked her up and took her to the county shelter. The shelter employee scanned her and found a microchip, but we had never registered it. The employee called the manufacturer and found out which vet it was sold to. She then called the vet and they dug through ancient records and found my dog's records even though we had moved and used a different vet. We ended up getting our dog back the same day she was lost due to the diligence of our county shelter worker.
I found 10 yo frenchie last week and went through that same process after taking him to my vet since the warden was closed. 25 minutes to find the owner. She cried with joy I found her boy.
People please keep a name tag with name of pet, your name, address and phone number on your dog’s collar whenever your dog is out, even when fenced in. I only remove my dog’s collar at night when she’s in her crate. Many people wouldn’t bother to take the dog to a shelter or vet to scan for a chip!
I hasnt heard about this, so decided to search and read about this case instead of watching any videos. The descriptions are bad enough. I don't want those images in my head. You can't unsee. Killing at dog next to others in kennels? Pushing piles of bodies past kennels. The wicked kill method aside, that sort of heartless complacency, comfortable watching suffering, must have been going for years. At one time the governor was a retired veterinarian and put most of these laws in to effect. Not to mention stricter regulations on veterinary technicians in the state. Most animal shelters are under the sheriffs department bet that's going to sting quite a bit in Columbus.

The animals can’t speak for themselves and law enforcement usually puts these crimes in a non enforcement category. A dog owner who gave up their pet because they can no longer care for them we’re DOING THE RIGHT THING. I had a friend who was constantly asking me to look after her dog while she and her husband would travel around the country, it got to the point I had the dog 75% of the time, I am disabled so looking after a dog who was high energy was taking a toll on my health and so I gave my friend a choice, either take Bo with you when you travel or hand her over to the shelter so that they could find her a forever home. She refused to take her with her as she was terrified of Bo running off, so,I had to refuse to look after Bo in the end. She finally allowed me to call animal rescue, Bo was taken with all of her things I had bought for her and within less than 24 hours a family adopted Bo. Dad and I wrote a letter of Bo’s likes and dislikes and how she loved playing in the paddle pond and oh so much more. We explained why Bo needed a new home with children as she was full of energy which was not compatible with either her full owners or myself. That was over 7 years ago and she now has a family who is more compatible than I or her owner ever were. A dog owner who is willing to say they can no-longer take care of their DOG IS NOT IRRESPONSIBLE, they are doing the very thing that all those owners who have dumped their cats and dogs out on the street for them to fend for themselves. But you ARE IRRESPONSIBLE for stating to the contrary, what you are IMPLYING is they should be dumping their dog on the streets. PULL YOUR HEAD IN.

A dog owner who gave up their pet because they can no longer care for them we’re DOING THE RIGHT THING. YOUR statement is vertically saying they should have dumped them on the street to fend for themselves.
I had a friend who was constantly asking me to look after her dog while she and her husband would travel around the country, it got to the point I had the dog 75% of the time, I am disabled so looking after a dog who was high energy was taking a toll on my health and so I gave my friend a choice, either take Bo with you when you travel or hand her over to the shelter so that they could find her a forever home. She refused to take her with her as she was terrified of Bo running off, so,I had to refuse to look after Bo in the end. She finally allowed me to call animal rescue, Bo was taken with all of her things I had bought for her and within less than 24 hours a family adopted Bo. Dad and I wrote a letter of Bo’s likes and dislikes and how she loved playing in the paddle pond and oh so much more. We explained why Bo needed a new home with children as she was full of energy which was not compatible with either her full owners or myself. That was over 7 years ago and she now has a family who is more compatible than I or her owner ever were.
A dog owner who is willing to say they can no-longer take care of their DOG IS NOT IRRESPONSIBLE, they are doing the very thing that all those owners who have dumped their cats and dogs out on the street for them to fend for themselves.
But you ARE IRRESPONSIBLE for stating to the contrary, what you are IMPLYING is they should be dumping their dog on the streets.
