If you're going to do these old zones and focus on questing you should most definitely play classic (or anything before the Cataclysm, but vanilla is definitely the best choice). That is the best experience of questing ever, and they've ruined it with each new expansion. I love old Darkshore as well, one of my favorite old zones.
