  • I popped along as it was only 5 minutes drive. Never been before. This is a brief look, I didn't want to go over the top.

Hi Simon! Some of these smaller shows can be just as interesting as the big ones! Looking forward to seeing what surprise purchases you made! :) Cheers, Ian.

There are a couple. I'm going to a local show in September. Probably the same people. Have to see if the shop is there, the old guy said he was retiring, I hope not as he did some very good deals.

Nice little show, I do like the smaller ones as you can have a good gassing session with the operators. If you connect three box files together you can get an amazing shunting layout in 'N'. But don't forget we as 'N' modellers can do the same as the big boys, it just takes a little...... ingenuity and craftyness.

My first show. It was interesting. Just a church hall so I hope they made a little money for themselves. My N gauge on a shelf was just a little layout in my office (ex utility room) and I enjoyed building that and learning. It wasn't that interesting to run and that's why I went in the bedroom. Now I'm going in the attic so I can really get it right.

Fascinating stuff Simon. I'm intrigued though. As the last steam trains ran when we were both kids, and diesel or electric trains don't make such an evocative display, are model railways going to survive much further into the 21st Century, or are you one of the "Last of the Vikings" so to speak?
There were some fascinating layouts there, particularly the n gauge in a filing box! But some of the detail on the bigger guages was extraordinary!!!!
A very interesting video. Thank you for sharing.

I did enjoy the visit and just being a local one wasn't heaving. There are plenty of people who have a passion for diesels and electric. There is whole section of people dedicated to Japanese Bullet trains. The hobby is so diverse. I think I get my love of steam from my Grandad. He was very much into his love of traction engines.
It's great what you can do in the larger gauges. N gauge requires a lot of time and skill to come close. But you get a longer run for any given space. That was the appeal for me. One thing is certain, I not only came away with ideas but I can refer back to them on here!

@@ngaugeonashelf4417 I'm delighted that there is a future for the hobby. Only ever owning a clockwork train set as a kid, I've always been fascinated by model railways and I'm pleased that there are people who enjoy the diesel & electric age (as well as the Bullet Train (that must have a huge track to run it at a comparable pace!!!! OK, poor attempt at a joke, but.....!!!). That you've come away with ideas, is brilliant news for the loft space! Did you learn, by chance, how others stop the canal boats sinking into their canals, as I know that that was an issue that you had with your current layout?
All in all, excellent TV and worthy of far more views than it probably will get!

@@nevillehubbard7347 It is so amazing how diversified this hobby is. All the way up to those who build live steam. I guess you might need a bob or two for that. I didn't have any trains as a child. My first dabble was when I was 17 or 18. I just had a loop on a table top of N gauge. I've always been N gauge, never thought about the larger scales.
For the canal boats I have a solution. Might get mentioned in a later video. Cheers.

Hi Simon, there was some stunning modeling there, but I didn't see a single Tardis, so room for improvement. Are you thinking of changing gauge now you have more room? Ron

      I didn't spot a Tardis anywhere. I saw a few fat controllers though.........or was that a mirror?
No change of gauge, I will keep with the small stuff I can barely see. Cheers, SImon

Great piece of video my friend. Many thanks for recording this for those who could not get there :) I don't know what a "gararrrrgge" is lol

Cheers. My first ever event, I only went as it was just down the road. But fun to see what other people create. Took away an idea or two. You will find a gararrrrgge in Cheshire!
