I paid many visits to Ottawa, mainly as a stopover enroute to backwoods canoe trips in northern Ontario and Quebec. There used to be a campground downtown, within walking distance of Parliament Hill. It was a large fenced in area next to a parking lot and we had to carry our tents and gear in. It was really cool to camp in the midst of a major metropolitan area but alas that was three decades ago before over landing and I believe it has since been turned into a dog park.

That looked like a great place to spend the day. As a Canadian that has driven across the country multiple times, I feel like I really missed out not taking my time to stop and explore along the way.
