Nah, Disney had *one* chance with the SW brand revival and they squandered it. A *lot* of hardcore fans have left the plantation and they’re never coming back. If Disney’s lucky, their wallets are still open to OT/PT/EU stuff, but many of them have soured on Star Wars as a whole and will not be returning under any circumstances. The wave of new casual fans brought in by Ep 7 on the other hand, were only ever interested because it was the Next Hot Thing at the time, and we’re like a dozen Next Hot Things past when Disney Wars was in its prime. These casual fans are only ever going to follow the herd, but the hardcore fans leading the herd have dipped and they’re not coming back. I genuinely don’t think there’s anything Disney can do to revive Star Wars in the next 10 years. Only time can heal the damage they’ve done to the brand.

Oddly inclined to agree with you, I hate how stupid one of the kids acts, but it seems honestly acted and I know people honestly act that way IRL so I find no fault in the acting, the character is more tolerable in later episodes so it is easier to ignore as well.
4:44 Hot take: I think this show is closer to Andor than the rest of recent SW shows. Why? Because of writing and smart characters. When someone shows up in ridiculous discuise or have poor cover story, people figure it out very quickly. Contrast that with "Leia under trench-coat" in Kenobi... Yes, the characters have some plot armor (but so does Cassian, since he is destined to make it to Scarif), but they act logically and believably, and I dont feel that majority show is chain of plot contrivences.
I’ve been about as jaded with DSW as anybody and I only started watching Skeleton Crew after a few reviewers I trust (including Thor!) gave it some early support, but I’m glad I did! Fun story, well-written characters, great visuals - it’s just what the doctor ordered. It remains to be seen whether they’ll stick the landing and/or if this represents a new heading for the franchise or just a one-off quality show that slipped through somehow, but I’m enjoying it for what it is and I’m happy to be getting something decent set in the Star Wars universe.
Hey Thor, this was the episode where they used _buffet._ Fun does seem to be the major element that has been missing. The lack of breadcrumbs for anything sequel related has been nice. Even the majority of the side characters have been well played. As long as it continues the way it has then I would definitely give it a bingeworthy grade. It really is nice to have a show where it's hard to find anything negative to say about it.
I said it before this is just showing us how badly Disney have screwed up this ip! It truly is a feat of spectacular stupidity to take the greatest film franchise of all time a literal golden goose and break it this badly in such a short amount of time truly we are the present of alpha level idiots 😮
I think this show could have been a miniseries after 1985's _Ewoks: Battle for Endor._ It certainly feels like something that might have been made then.
I started to watch it recently. Nothing ultra complicated but it has a sense of wonder, discovery and adventure that I ended liking it more than I expected. I think that audience will catch up on the future thanks to word to mouth
good or not, its still leads to nowhere (sequels). And I will not give disney any chances until they change the head and decanonise sequels (witch they will never do) or move far far far away from this cursed timeline.
I have never understood that logic with "it leads to nowhere" People love the history of the roman empire, perhaps the renaisance even though it will ultimatively progress to WWII A story or chapter in itself can just be as interesting.
@darthmop1 there is a difference between real world and fantasy world. In the real world we have to live with consequences of our actions. But in fantasy world we able to shape that ends to what majority will like to see...
Speaking of family friendly, it’s actually nice to be able to put in some star wars with my 5 year old and have them not get scared or have Mando be too much violence for them. It’s a solid jumping on point to the galaxy, the girl with the eye piece is my daughters favorite character
This is the first Disney Star awars show where I'm excited about and looking forward to the next episode every week. I got Disney+ for the Kenobi show and I've watched a lot of the live-action stuff since then, but I've been luke-warm at best about everything else. (Only watched Andor once it was fully released, so not counting that).
Skeleton Crew has been so much fun to watch. I wish Disney hadn't damaged the Star Wars brand so badly that some people aren't even giving it a try. Reminds me of Andor, where people who watched it say they liked it but it had lower ratings than many of the other Star Wars shows like Mando or Obi Wan.
I think of it like this. Disney has ignored fan feedback for over 10 years frequently using it as an excuse to attack fans. The only recourse left to me as a consumer is to not give Disney my money until they learn to respect their consumers. Then there's star wars community. It sucks and most people don't want to come back to it. Unfortunately Thor is one of the very very very few channels that has a fanbase similar to what the star wars fanbase was like pre Disney. Most of the community is toxic a holes tho. The Disney fans are insufferable and love throwing out buzz word insults like racist, homophobic, transphobic or misogynistic for not praising anything Disney puts out. Then there's the nutters in the fandom menace who those names are more likely to actually apply to. Why would I want to come back to a community like that. I remember one of my favourite star wars creators got butt hurt because people didn't like the acolyte and played the victim. I commented saying most people criticism was about the writing not race etc and he flipped out blocked me and called me a racist. That's what the community is now and every time I think of star wars I'm reminded of all that and just walk away because I don't hate myself enough to put up with it anymore. Also is anyone else tired of being labeled a bigot for being a star wars fan that doesn't think Disney is absolutely flawless and everything they make is perfect.
I decided to watch the first few episodes after hearing from you and Theory that it’s actually pretty good for a SW series of late ! And… I actually liked it so far ! (2 episodes in). Bit of a mystery they’ll need to explain with their planet, but for kid actors, they all have done well so far. Thanks, Thor 😊
Hey Thor, a suggestion for a poll... I'll leave it to you to decide the exact wording of the questions but I'm interested in the following concepts. How many people voting in the polls are Disney plus subscribers and happily and actively watch new live-action Star Wars, how many subscribe but strictly use it to watch pre Disney Lucasfilm content, how many are former subscribers that dropped their subscription because of sequel era content, versus those that have never or will never subscribe for any reason whatsoever? Not sure how you designate between people who were Star Wars fans and keep the subscription for Marvel but you're good at wording these polls to take a pulse of the Star Wars fandom so I'll leave that to you. Thanks for all you do and I'm really glad for you that you're enjoying Skeleton Crew. I don't want a channel you built to express your personal enjoyment and creativity to become something that is consistently negative in your life. I am hopeful, because of your efforts, Disney is listening and will continue to provide better stories like Skeleton Crew and Andor for our continued enjoyment.
I love watching through all three Star Wars trilogies, as well as Obi Wan and the two spin off films. I will add this in to that when next rewatching as it's been brilliant so far. SM-33 is one of the best robots in the series and the pirate feel as a whole has been a perfect fit for the universe.
I agree. I have been somewhat disappointed with Filoni's influence the past couple years. I'm wondering if Favreau had more to do with Mandalorian's success than Filoni.
Hey Thor, Skelton Crew has been good so far! Still there’s a part of me that’s a little frustrated because there are moments in each episode where they’re either telling instead of showing or you can sense that they could’ve elaborated on something but they get to the solution instantly. My conclusion is that Disney’s 8 episode season of around 30 minutes an episode formula is somewhat suffocating this show making it a good show when it could possibly, if it breathed a little more, be a great or amazing show. What do you think?
You should do a "watching, not watching ever, may watch, and will watch when it's fully released," poll to cover the all of the not watching at the moment people.
My daughter and I watching this series. I've enjoyed it. This episode feels more Star Wars than the rest, despite the aesthetic being fairly Star-Warsy.
It doesn’t matter anymore whether the show is good or bad. Every time I want to watch something from Disney Star Wars, I immediately remember that the sequels exist, and that ruins my day and makes me lose all desire to watch these shows.
Like my son said, "Just let it go, it's time to stop. Star Wars is done." I gave in and watched Andor, and it was good, but I think I could stand it because Andor's darker tone fits the current state of Star Wars far better than any kids show. Yes, all the roads lead to Luke chugging green milk, and no amount of Goonies in space can change that.
I will not watch anything from Disney that I didn’t already begin a series for. The last thing I saw from them was GotG3 and the last “Star Wars” I saw was Mando S2. No more until the people who fired Gina Carano are gone and the company shows a solid effort to appreciate its customers again.
Personally i think our "best case scenario" for Jod is that the series ends with a planned "set" ending of locating the planet and he selflessly decides to strand himself there and live out his days in peace as a local protector/jedi after reinstating their protections following dealing with the "supervisor". Or dies/leaves in a similar process that ensures he can never return... My biggest concern is if execs decide they want to renew an "infinite*!?" cash cow they will then ruin the ending. This is my only consilation that makes me almost happy this series is not doing well, though inversly i think we can all see the worse outcome that they will more likely burn the series with worse BS like Acolyte or bury the IP for failure rather than sell it to someone that will remove the sequels and revive it.
1. Jod dies. 2. Jod saves the kids and gets a reward. 3. Jod escapes like Long John Silver. 4. Jod is imprisoned for his crimes. This is my pick, with him being rehabilitated over 20 years and becomes their "Uncle Jod." 5. Jod works for the government of At Attin, either inside or out. People say the pirate captain could be Supervisor, so why not Jod? 6. Jod blackmails the government of At Attin for a lot of credits or does a heist. I don't think he's likely to succeed at either.
@sandal_thong8631 the risk with most is At Attin security likely needs to get disabled for the kids to return home, if pursued by pirates he would need to beat them or lure them off. That is why I worry about the risk of unscheduled continuation, Jod will either need to replace the kids or vice versa unless the planet falls.
I feel like they spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to make palpys return not completely unreasonable but unlike the clone wars which made anakins fall 10x more understandable and heart wrenching, they're leading to something that doesn't really have goods bones to build off of
He was mocked as a Padawan and called Chode by the others. He was down the hall when Anakin attacked sobbing in his locker where the kids locked him. He's probably going to end up a grey Jedi who comes back to the light fully or at least makes that attempt due to the influence of the kids.
I love that this series is a mix of like every pirate story. Jod Silvo is basically John Silver and SM33 is Smee from Peter Pan but cooler It’s been fun to see in Star Wars
Hey Thor! I initially didn't care to watch the show due to its plot. However, when I clicked on your poll about the latest episode, I saw that the majority of those who gave it a try thought that it was very good. So I (26, grew up with prequels) gave it a try and watched it with my Dad (64, watched original trilogy and sequels in the cinema) yesterday. We both were really into it and thought that it is apart from Andor the first show that feels like actual Star Wars but in a refreshing new manner. Both of us think that there is still so much potential for new stories to be told within the beautiful world building that Star Wars always had. We hope the series will be a success as well as Andor season 2.
I'm going to watch the full thing if you give the last episode another good review. I have _ZERO_ trust for Disney/Lucasfilm to stick the landing on their projects. I'm beginning to get my hopes up on this one though.
Wim has hero-worshipped the Jedi as a force for good since the start, so does this mean he's destined to convince Jod to become a 'good' Jedi in some finale? If it wasn't Disney, maybe it could be more open to other possibilities, but because it is Disney, is this more likely? If it's done well, I'd not be against a heartwarming ending, but would Disney consider going another way.?
Im actually in love with skeleton crew it's the most fun ive had with Star Wars since playing Jedi survivor. Me and my Boyfriend are having a blast and both of us are long time fans who were critical of most disney releases. I dearly hope more people will watch it
I’ve started watching the show and I am having fun with it, even if it does show some of the aesthetics of previous Disney Star Wars stuff, it also shows that it does know how Star Wars is supposed to feel. I adore all the space pirate stuff, it feel very Star Wars, but with a little bit of pirate fantasy flare. As someone who loves Tresure Planet, I really appreciate how they’ve managed to bring that vibe without it feeling too out of place. (Still don’t love the design of At Attin though)
If it is crap, we don’t watch it. If it is great, we watch it. Not watching something that is great doesn’t help anyone. This show is really good, the writing is good, the acting is good…even the kids are doing a phenomenal job in this.
Came in with low expectations but this show has been a huge pleasant surprise. It's steadily gotten better week over week. I do hope more people watch it. Even if its a one off show, Disney need to understand what good looks like and use this as an example of what the fans enjoy.
I was part of the 64%. I just kept forgetting about it. After the Acolyte, I stopped caring about Disney Star Wars for a while. I just watched it over the past two days and enjoyed it a lot. I can't wait for the rest of the show to come out.
What this show has taught me is that Star Wars projects should be judged on their individual content and not by the content of the project that came before it. We saw that with SOLO and we’re seeing it again with SKELETON CREW. As with Marvel, Disney Star Wars shows are not all cut from the same cloth.
The crazy thing for such a franchise is the lack of coherent vision and thats all Kennedys fault and started with the handling of the sequel trilogy and the legacy characters. They could have created a sequel road map that started with a version that was close to George Lucas' vision for the sequels and left us wanting to know HOW we got there. Instead we have the opposite. Everyone dreading what good Disney Star Wars we are getting IS leading to the sequels. They could have blown this universe up in a good way with the story line that Ben Solo got corrupted after his experience fighting the Yuuzhan Vong. References in the sequels to Thrawn. Etc. The sequels felt reductive instead of expansive.
What if that during that episode in clone wars where ashoka rescues the younglings that they never spotted him and he was left behind by them , but Ashoka never knew he was there.
I still think it’s possible the show will, by implication, tie to the sequels by leaving the question hanging ‘Who is the planet minting money for?’ That might be enough to annoy some fans. I can see the owl lady directing the New Republic to At Attin before the end. Everyone there, including the AI Supervisor, probably thinks they’ve been resourcing the Republic. Learning they’ve not, the show ends with the question still hanging, but an answer implied
Hey Thor, Do you think it is possible that Whim’s mom is the supervisor? It seems no one has seen the supervisor in a long time and we certainly have had the mystery of his mom dangled in front of us a couple times. If not, what do you feel is the possibility of her being tied into Tek Rennod and the pirate storyline somehow? Also, I watched all five episodes of Skeleton Crew yesterday after your overwhelming positive reviews and really liked the show. I even recommended the show to a stranger this morning. Thanks for all that you do! Love your content on both channels!
I think the ending is going to be dark. Remember that kindly pirate in the morque (for robots) in ep 3 that told Jod he was the best captain he ever had? He said they should have a chat with Brutus' guards. I thought this meant Jod was going to be secretly working with Brutus, but I think it's going to be revealed Jod killed him instead, even if we just get in with a line of dialogue. ie "Why did you kill poor..."
Hey Thor, for me, I am watching this show (y'know, aboard a ship) but even if I think it's decent, I hope it never becomes too much of a hit, because knowing disney they'll just take it as a message that trying to appeal to small children might actually work and they'd probably just go all in on that. I'm putting all my eggs in the Andor basket.
What to expect from a company which follows the directions of the Holy Spreadsheet, perfectly illustrated by all the live action remakes? It is what it is.
Maybe Jod will eventually come back and 'redeem himself', which while a typical cliche that one would expect, if well executed, could still be entertaining to watch.
Hey Thor… with a large number that started watching Acolyte that stopped after 3 episodes (give or take), I am curious if there have been any who started this that have stopped. Or have most that started been pleased with it and stayed the course? Thanks
Star Trek apparently decanonized Discovery. It used the show Lower Decks to do it. Made it into its own timeline. It seems to be news well received. Im hoping people at Lucasfilm are paying attention.
Good series! Very entertaining! Having seen snippets of each episode, the season has a great final show for the season! Some have said there is hints of Omega in this series. Of course there is! You might even encounter hints of Asajj, Fennec, and Boba in this series…. At the point of this series, Omega has not yet been captured by Thrawn to have her blood resurrect Palpatine. That’s all still to come… and arrive it will!
It's true that it gets better at times, but then I see the kids and I feel like it's a bit too kiddie in some parts. Then we have Neel, who reacts exactly as a kid should. If there ever was a main character we needed, it's Neel.
Hey Thor. As much as I am loving this show, I can’t help but feel there will be still be some nod to the sequels somewhere towards the end. My fear is that the introduction of this last “mint” is the excuse of where future Palpatine was receiving all his funds. Like some mysterious ship comes at the end to pick up the credits…the people on the planet think it’s the old republic…but it’s really a sith ship going to the unknown regions towards exagol.
I binged the episodes, so I couldn't tell you what happened in which episode. I never got the "heart of gold vibe" seemed pure con man most of the time except when he talked to Whim. "Pirate". However, I think even if he wasn't going to betray the kids, it was the right move for him to demand the captain slot, because the kids had proven themselves irresponsible. Not sure why he asked the robot to "take them prisoner". Where else were the kids going to go? He could just keep lying to get the kids back on the ship. I do have some hope the set up will allow them to pretty much ignore the sequel trilogy which would be the best option. Would really, really love it to just be its own thing. I am loving all the aliens.
I had no interest in Skeleton Crew when the first trailer dropped, I was intrigued when the second trailer dropped and when a friend saw the first two eps and recommended it I dove in. I’m really enjoying it. I like the kids and Jod is a fantastic character. I’m not sure what’s going to happen next and it’s kept me itching for the next episode. I’ve continued to think about the show throughout the week and that marks a great show in my eyes. In contrast I barely remember the What If episodes that have come out every day for a week.
Have to say the percentage of people not watching this show is very consistent, same levels as it is with Acolyte. I look forward to the polls when Andor S2 is released!
Part of me doesn’t want to watch it but part me wants to because I’ve heard it’s actually decent and just out of spite so it gets more views than the acolyte

I don't think they can have a lot of sustained success with KK at the head of things though. Her choices have led to the chaos and fractured storytelling we have seen the past ten years.

Jude Law and all the younger actors are definitely giving 10/10 performances.
They are good, Law especially. I feel bad for the actors playing parents. Their lines have been lousy.
Oddly inclined to agree with you, I hate how stupid one of the kids acts, but it seems honestly acted and I know people honestly act that way IRL so I find no fault in the acting, the character is more tolerable in later episodes so it is easier to ignore as well.

4:44 Hot take:
I think this show is closer to Andor than the rest of recent SW shows.
I have never understood that logic with "it leads to nowhere"
People love the history of the roman empire, perhaps the renaisance even though it will ultimatively progress to WWII
A story or chapter in itself can just be as interesting.
@darthmop1 there is a difference between real world and fantasy world. In the real world we have to live with consequences of our actions. But in fantasy world we able to shape that ends to what majority will like to see...
The second trailer sold me. Major Tom in Huttese let me know they might be putting effort in this one and I think I was right.
I disagree that was a turn off for me
@ that’s fair.
Speaking of family friendly, it’s actually nice to be able to put in some star wars with my 5 year old and have them not get scared or have Mando be too much violence for them. It’s a solid jumping on point to the galaxy, the girl with the eye piece is my daughters favorite character
Thanks for sharing. Kid's positive views on _The Phantom Menace_ didn't get heard, so only the disappointment of O.T. fans got noticed.
I forgot to vote but I thought it was the best episode.
Bot
Woops my bad was replying to someone else
All roads lead to "Somehow Palpatine returned". 😖
I just want to say "thank you Jon Favreau. Your contributions to star wars have been the 'droids I'm looking for'."
I agree. I have been somewhat disappointed with Filoni's influence the past couple years. I'm wondering if Favreau had more to do with Mandalorian's success than Filoni.
Book of Boba Fett and Mando season 3 were written by him.

Hey Thor,
Skelton Crew has been good so far!
I also agree with you this was very noticable in ep 4 with the war on the other planet
A show made for kids, I'm still a kid at heart. Best episode thus far.
It doesn’t matter anymore whether the show is good or bad. Every time I want to watch something from Disney Star Wars, I immediately remember that the sequels exist, and that ruins my day and makes me lose all desire to watch these shows.
I started watching Skeleton Crew recently and I am glad I did.
Like my son said, "Just let it go, it's time to stop. Star Wars is done."
I gave in and watched Andor, and it was good, but I think I could stand it because Andor's darker tone fits the current state of Star Wars far better than any kids show.
Yes, all the roads lead to Luke chugging green milk, and no amount of Goonies in space can change that.

@ People around here like to think it is.
I will not watch anything from Disney that I didn’t already begin a series for. The last thing I saw from them was GotG3 and the last “Star Wars” I saw was Mando S2. No more until the people who fired Gina Carano are gone and the company shows a solid effort to appreciate its customers again.
It will take more than this to bring me back.
This is my pick, with him being rehabilitated over 20 years and becomes their "Uncle Jod."
The more the show focuses on Jod's character, the better it is. None of the kids do much for me.
Jod Silvo is basically John Silver and SM33 is Smee from Peter Pan but cooler
It’s been fun to see in Star Wars

That is the force.
Next year videogames are going be a woman with a sword.
I just watch Thor’s daily review.
New poll: Will Thor finally pronounce "Jod" correctly before the show ends?
If it is crap, we don’t watch it. If it is great, we watch it. Not watching something that is great doesn’t help anyone.
This show is really good, the writing is good, the acting is good…even the kids are doing a phenomenal job in this.
Surprisingly it's a great show and deserves a bigger audience.
I just started watching the show based on the positive buzz. I like it!
Jod should be as old as Anakin would be if he was still alive. It would be cool if Jod and Anakin knew each other as younglings or padawans.
What if that during that episode in clone wars where ashoka rescues the younglings that they never spotted him and he was left behind by them , but Ashoka never knew he was there.
The excitement of new Star Wars: kids discovering Galactic Banking!
I think this show is to the Acolyte as Solo was to The Last Jedi.
A follow up on a disaster
He is the broom kid....
Skeleton Crew is enjoyable so far.
But given how badly Lucasfilm has treated its own fans for years, I don't blame anyone for staying away.
if this had come about right after the mandalorian season 1 or even 2 it would have been well loved
Hey Thor,
Do you think it is possible that Whim’s mom is the supervisor?

There's other ways to watch this. Do what SM33 would do.
It's very worth watching, and if people like Star Wars, they *should* be watching this.

I’m going to try watching it tonight, my family refuses to watch any more stars with me after acolyte
The trailers form this show looked interesting; only thing against it and me not watching is that, well, it’s a “Star Wars show”
I binged the episodes, so I couldn't tell you what happened in which episode.
Still have not received an apology, so...
