The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe: escape through a closet into a magical world where you're royalty and have to save the world from the evil Sorceress. Every escapist beat in a single logline. If you can do that, you've probably got it right.

That's why I do pen & paper gaming; it makes strong use of all three keys.

Escapist literature provides significant advantages to the average reader over more challenging material. In the modern world, entertainment is very visceral and exciting. That being said, many readers have become desensitized and unable to grasp the appeal of classical literature. As a writer, it is important to connect with your audience in a way that interchanges their views with your content.

I believe adventure lies at the intersection of danger, reward, and the unexplored.

Good stuff! Good for running DnD too, I think. Good GM advice. Good GM advice and good story advice are not always similar things, but in this case I think the meta works for both.

One of my favorite ideas for a video. I love this meta level thinking about story.

I find it interesting that a stories about the world being in jeopardy are escapist, yet they are some of the best escapist works.

Yeah, the dynamic is one of wonder combined with a rigorous accumulation of rules - rules which are very new to the protagonist -- the abruptness of the transition is probably symbolic of an epoch in reality. To use Star Wars as an analogy, we don't know exactly where we are in the 'Phantom Menace' but we know that we're in the midst of pre-war hysteria as everyone quickly reacts to the chimeric threat of the Trade Federation... then in 'Clones' (like Casablanca) it's just about love during the outbreak of war, and 'Revenge' just establishes the new imperial era. Isekai is probably a little more nuanced since it's not really a lotus-eating "fantasy" or a war drama but primarily a change of role.

Can you do a review on why Sequels usually don't succeed better than the prequels.

Seconded! The Prequels have some big problems, but the Sequels ARE the big problems.

Did you get a writing degree? Right now I’m currently in PreMed and I just don’t have the time on my hands to get a writing minor or take the additional classes but I still have story ideas I would like to put to paper

My degree is in music composition.
I have never seen an English degree confer any special skill when it comes to writing. In fact I noticed most English majors are worse for it. the nature of modern university education is that it doesn't teach you the skills you need to write books or succeed with a career at all. It's mostly indoctrination day camp for adults.
talked about before how my English professors didn't actually understand the subjects they were teaching at all.
If you want to be a good writer you just have to practice the craft of writing. It's the same thing with music. It all comes down to practice. you'll learn more by writing a few books on your own than you will attending University for 4 years.
Michael Crichton was a doctor by the way.

I replayed the first half second a few times. That lip smacking sound bit makes me laugh. It's wet. I hate it.
