i have been unable to make recordings o my mixes or over a year now .First it was the fuck up between el capitan on my mac and serato and rane then when that was sorted i now have a system that plays but when rcording i get drop outs .I bought this thing to make mixes for friends to put up on the net and for getting work.If i had the money i would dump the lot and start again coz no matter what i do it keeps dropping out even if i use audacity.Its making me very depressed as i feel im sitting around twiddling my thumbs doing nothing and thats just audio forget about video
It's pretty cool but why did the video recording come out cropped. What I mean is it's not really full screen it's more of a cropped look. Is that how it records or can it record in widescreen?

Hi TLM, first of all many thanks for this great tutorial. Unfortunately I do have problems with my recorded file. I can view the hole videomix but there is no sound... neither by opening it with real time player nor by playing the file in serato video ... Do you know this problem and can you help me to fix it ? I think the problem is located in serato because there is no amplitude in the volume control of the record sector. Thanks a lot

No, it's an update for the Serato Video software. You use that inside Serato DJ and you can mix video clips and other movie footage and record it within Serato DJ. It makes it super easy to do a live mix with video files and record it

why is it hard to record HD video within serato even though you have a powerful laptop. must we use a third party program to achieve HD video recording with Serato?
I did some research and this seems to be the only downside to using the SL2. If you want to record the audio you can't pick a record channel in the settings because you only have two channels and you are using those for the mixing. So to record your mix you would have to use the output signal from your mixer and connect it to your computer and record the audio with a seperate program like Audacity. After you do that you will have to use an editing program to sync your audio with the recorded video mix. With the SL3 you probably don't have this problem because it has 3 channels so channel 3 could be the record channel. I'm going to add a warning message in the description.

djTLMtv I have a SL3. In the past to just record audio I would go out my "Rec Out" of my mixer into the "Aux In" of the SL3 and I could record audio inside of Serato(SL). I haven't tried yet, but do you think I will have to do the same thing to record a video mix with audio?
Hi djTLMtv. i have both updates. The Serato DJ 1.7 & Serato video1.1 & am using the Pioneer ddj-sx as my Serato interface. Will this work? I've tried doing exactly what you displayed in your video. what i do notice is that my audio Tap is to the far left and not to the right like your setup option bar. Its actually inbetween my DJ Preferences & the Library + Display Tap. In my Audio Tap i have no deck setup or audio channel option displayed in my audio tap like yours did. am guessing becuz you're using the pioneer DJM900SRT. I do have the the video mix option in my Rec tap and i've tried recording but it does'nt record longer than 3 mins after my first try & now its only for a few secs maybe a minute. i really wanna record my video sessions. please look into this using the serato ddj-sx. please help me solve this issue all thou its not your problem. i will con't to research a solution & will gladly share if i do. The pioneer ddj-sx is a 4 channel controller so i was expecting everything to work smoothly. i hope you can help or i can figure out this issue. Thanks for your video & your info thou. Hi~ I just bought an SL3 to record, but I can't get it to work. I have watched a bunch of videos and read the forums, but no avail all I get is the control tone when I try to scratch and record. The mixer is cutting the sound but all I hear is the control tone. Is the recording for just real vinyl or the virtual vinyl? I have no selection for MIX OR AUX only CHANNEL 1, 2 and 3.

Are you using Serato Scratch Live of Serato DJ? It could be that the record channel settings work differently with an SL2 because it only has 2 channels. Do you have the option to choose 'video mix' when you enable REC like I did? The best thing to do now is ask on the Serato forum. If I find the answer in the meantime I will get back to you

So I tried to record using serato Dj's serato video. It recorded like 1:30 and then only for 15 seconds after that. Each time it automatically stopped recording. I have a terabyte on my MacBook Pro so I know I have room. Let me know what I may be doing wrong

Sl2 only has two in/outputs. I think that only works if you have more. Not completely shure though

I'm not sure. Have you checked the minimum specifications for Serato DJ and Video to see if your laptop is good enough? That could be the problem
