  • We discuss and demonstrate the NEW range of Backun Vocalise Ebonite Mouthpieces for Clarinet. Available via: www.dawkes.co.uk/backun-vocal...
    In this test we also demonstrate the Vocalise mouthpieces with both a cane and synthetic reed (Legere European Signature Cut 3.5) as they work beautifully with all combos.
    Designed for all ages and experience levels, the Vocalise Series of B♭ mouthpieces features a model for every player and occasion, all of which belong in your clarinet case. Complex resonance at a reasonable price.
    Available in 3 models:
    R - Close/Short: Evenness and a focus of sound that sings with ease are two characteristics of this close facing mouthpiece. The R allows artists to articulate with reduced effort, while ringing true with fabulous clarity. This is Hawkins’s choice for young artists looking to step up to a more complex mouthpiece.
    G - Medium/Medium: A medium faced mouthpiece that combines exceptional evenness and round tonal complexity. The G has a smoother influence on interval connections just where you need it. An all-around mouthpiece for those who prefer medium facings and lengths
    H - Open/Long: The most open facing in the lineup, the H is both smooth and dark, with ample cushion for those who need more robust flexibility throughout the registers. This mouthpiece gives as much as it takes, requiring balanced breath support and unyielding passion in performance.
    Technology:
    Designed at Backun using advanced CAD/CAM software and tested with 3D printing technology, the mouthpieces are crafted from hard rod rubber on a highly advanced nine-axis CNC machine and finished in a unique done-in-one machining program that combines the milling and lathing processes without the need for a second setup or recalibration. This results in an exceptionally consistent mouthpiece that stays true to the original design.
    Performance:
    Each mouthpiece helps the player centre articulation, pitch and altissimo, with impeccable ease and consistency of voicing. It is the first mouthpiece of its kind specifically designed to play well on both synthetic and cane reeds, in strengths 2.5 to 4.5.
    Articulation Management allows players to capture the appropriate length of articulations for different styles without increased effort. Pitch Locking allows players with varying instruments to lock in on an even pitch range between 440-442 with little variation in barrel length.

      It’s an old GF System ligature of mine. I didn’t want to scratch the mouthpieces while changing between cane and synthetic reed.

      If blowing then H
      But as I always say new mouthpiece which is not damaged in beak mouth part (it can be old, it depends how gently you use mouthpiece, not falling on the ground etc.)will be playing good
      Of course some mouthpieces more responsible (it can be both medium and large opening mouthpiece) for ex. B45 or this Backun vocalise H and that's because it's structure and large tip opening. But the main thing of nice response IS non-damaged beak. I can tell it because of my experience and knowledge of my teachers. So you can depend on it surely.

    I've tried a european cut 3.50 on my BD5 and sound was not good like with v12 3.5, I went out of tune, I couldn't keep stable long notes and sound was lifeless.. I woner If I would try a signature series would work better...

    • @danielkwon4679
      @danielkwon4679 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      it may be because the legere european cut 3.5 is almost almost equivalent to a v12 4. heres a strength chart if you wantwww.legere.com/need-to-know/strength-charts/

    • @jimis3167
      @jimis3167 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@danielkwon4679 Do not take this chart as a standard point.. Legere European 3.50 to me felt like a light v12 3.5.. Also, It probably needs some other mouthpiece like a Vocalise to work properly, I find as a reed, It isn't quite suitable for playing on my BD5, so unfotunately I have to stick with v12 3.5 reeds this time...

    What is the tip opening for each model. I'd like to know what is the more open

    • @dawkesmusic
      @dawkesmusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The H is the most open of these 3. There is also a new Z model coming which is even more open and also has a long facing. We should have a review video in the next few weeks.

    So the Legere is not a cane Reed??

    • @dawkesmusic
      @dawkesmusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct - Legere are fully synthetic reeds. Available for Clarinet via: www.dawkes.co.uk/legere-bb-clarinet-signature-reed/05158

      Because it didn't exist at that point :) Nor did the Z. So, there's a new video in the pipeline. Just need to be able to get back into the studio after C-19.

    So, you think that is ok to just order one randomly and not try many same? It will be what It is on every Vocalise of same model or they will be minor differences like on all common hard rubber mouthpieces of the same model?

    • @dawkesmusic
      @dawkesmusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In our opinion, due to the way these are made it is pretty much impossible for there to be any difference in how they play.
