There could have been more actual paintings throughout his evolving palette. The brush stirring paint insinuates the color changes but we could have benefitted from examples of completed works. But it was really well-narrated. Thank you.
As an artist myself, I'm always amazed at the lack of gratitude and sense of entitlement of men who had no idea how good they had it. If you were a man in the 1940s/1950s with a modicum of talent, you had a great chance of being accepted into the boys' club of Abstract Expressionism and art in general. He wanted success; he got it. He wanted acclaim; he got it. And yet he, along with so many of the Abstract Expressionists, squandered it.
The art world is dog eat dog - if anything, being a man requires perseverance. Nobody is just handing over anything without inner strength & determination. Woman are born with value whereas men have to earn it through blood, sweat, and tears. Buckle up, it’s going to be a bumpy night.
Thank you for you feedback! I want to add though, that if the video comes through as a pure tribute without questioning his life choices, I have failed. He had an adience who loved him, a loving, beautiful wifw who supported him in all ways possible and he still was not happy. This is because he had a greater love than all of this: the alcohol. And if you are in love with alcohol, you need a reason to drink. Stating you are unhappy and misunderstood is a common reson. I hope that this somewhat is obvious in the video 📺
One more who hate the socity and system he lived in. Now we let people in who learning from toddler age hate us and our system. Good Rothko left som good paintings.
"He struggled with the forced optimism and cheerfulness that seemed to characterize American life" is one of the most insulting, anti-American things I have heard on TH-cam. The optimism is not FORCED, it's part of the culture, much in the same way that being unreasonably miserable & boring is part of British culture.
Was there something you think we should have covered that was not in the video? Feel free to share what you think!🎨

I think you are very on point here. We can probably assume that he was the type of man who wouldn’t have been happy, no matter the circumstances…
I'm not sure that he 'squandered it'. That's quite a dimensional assessment. Perhaps, his goals were different than how you guess they are or judge.
@@theGENIUSofART-understood The video said he wanted success and acclaim, so that was what I was referring to.

@@elainealibrandi6364 the video is wrong. he wanted people to understand his art. i just released a 25 minutes video documentary on him. have a watch.
His Art is amazing 👍
Yes indeed it is. They are iconic works👍🏼
Definitely one of the most successful con artists of the Art Industry. It's always amusing to hear someone describe what a genius he was. (suckers).

Totally get what you're saying! Rothko had some serious feelings about the world, but at least he left us with some awesome art to think about.

I agree with you completely, note that I share Rothko’s view here. This is a channel on art not politics, but again, I can totally see your viewpoint.
