Also, the touring production of the musical have many differences, mainly the Maitlands die due to electrocution (because they cant use a trapdoor in the tour)

I like Beetlejuice the musical over the movie purely because they add more depth to each character (yes even Delia), show Lydia more, and I absolutely love Lydia and Beetlejuice's weird yet cute uncle-niece relationship in the musical (which I presume has taken inspiration from the cartoon (which, fun fact, actually doesn't have the 'three times in a row, spoken unbroken' rule, and there were a few instances where Beetlejuice was summoned with his name being said three times over a sentence or two, rather than in a row))
But the movie has Winona Ryder, so, difficult one

A year late but to say they added depth to Delia is bullshit. They made Delia palatable and less interesting.

I love this, I have sooo many thoughts on the musical as an adaptation I don't even know where to start when I try writing it down. Absolutely agree about the rules! The movie and musical are so different it doesn't quite seem fair to compare them as better/worse (though I have my personal preference), but one definite improvement is the rules being better fleshed out and more consistent.

I always thought that in the movie, the Maitlands didn't have a child due infertility issues. Like, they WANT a child, and have tried, but it just hadn't happened yet.
This was a very well made video, btw! Can't wait for part 2!!

Thanks for this video! Grew up watching beetle juice and I’ve noticed a lot of the clips I’ve seen for the musical are a different tone than what I’d expect so I’m excited to hear what’s changed!

Love the video! Would you consider looking at Beetlejuice the cartoon and how some of those elements got brought in for the musical? It wouldn’t be as in-depth of a review as this is, but it could be very interesting to see how it evolved the series
