Hi Jane, you've just made me very hungry 😂. I have a tip for you. When you make something with minced beef, eg, spaghetti bolognese or cottage pie. I add a tin of brown lentils. It stretches the mince, and you can't taste the difference. Regards Trudy
Thank you so much for sharing, your meals looked so wholesome and tasty. Please give your dogs an extra cuddle. We lost our beautiful girl age 13 on New Years Eve. She has left a huge void and I am so sad but so happy that she owned us for those 13 years of her life. Keep up the good work Jane and Mike
I really enjoy your videos, especially with the dogs so cute! I have a bulldog so I like to show her a bit in my videos. I gave you a little shout out the other day in a video of mine as I'm also an ex-teacher plus its interesting to see Brits living in France :0)
Great catch with the bread making flat bread…Grec-Mex ha! 😀. Great looking meals, you’ve given me an idea of something I was gonna make but now it’ll have a little twist, thanks 😊
I can't believe you found lamb for $10! You're absolutely right that is a steal!!! I found chicken Leg Quarters for $0.89 so I'm about to grab a bunch and get the foods saver out.
Thank you for posting your meals of the week, it is fun to see how others eat. I've got some precious pre-prepped lamb/beef gyro meat plus pitas frozen for treat meals. Where I live in the US lamb is rarely available, few cut options and prohibitively expensive. However I had a one-time opportunity to buy lamb mince from a local farmer and have been keeping it safely wrapped and frozen as a treat. Hubby isn't fond of it so having it highly spiced as gyro is working well.
We are South African retirees. I defrosted a frozen snoek (like a pike fish) and we had braai (barbecue) snoek. The next day I flaked another 2 portions and maked "smoor snoek" (snoek and potatoes in tomato base). Next day, snoek bobotie (typical South African curried dish) and the last bit of flaked snoek became fish cakes. The bobotie was enough for 2 meals. Thus 5 full meals (10 portions). The whole snoek was priced at R134. The protein rich portion of our 5 meals thus worked out at R13.40 per portion which was very economical. Cannot convert to Euro or Dollars due to the different buying power of the Rand. Just for comparison, a bought hamburger costs in excess of R50.00.
@@bearsbreeches I do not think so but am not sure. My Victory Cookbook (Marguerite Patten) mentions cod, herring, haddock, hake and mackerel. None of these would be a pike species. However, being a British Colony at that stage, South African citizens also had limited food supplies and probably supplied the Forces with fish, meat, fruit and vegetables. Snoek is mainly caught off the west and southwest coast of South Africa. Cold water.
Delicious meals Jane😊 particularly love the lamb roast and Tuscan Chicken. I won't buy lamb here it's far too expensive. Oh the girls are so cute .🐾❤️🦮
Your meals look great! We ate pasta bolognese yesterday, today it will be butternut pumpkinsoup with brasilian cheesebread. That bread is glutenfree and made with tapioca starch. They really taste awesome. The pumpkins were one euro for each. So I bought more. Have already made pumpkin puree from three of them and put that in the freezer.
Love a corn fritter- for some reason I always thought that these were just a NZ thing. We add curry powder and an onion too and call it dinner. The other frittery thing we like is okonomiyaki 🙂
The Sunday roast was a tradition here in New Zealand too, probably an import from our British ancestors. Christmas dinner was roast with vegetables, trifle and plum pudding.
I live in Texas USA I have never made corn fritters before and I was wondering if you can use cream corn. You didn't exactly specify which kind of corn you used. I love any kind of fritters and I just thought I would ask . Thank you so much for all of your videos and your inspiration.
Jane, everythnig looks delicious, but I do have a question. I don't eat wheat gluten either, and wanted to know if you use the same amount of corn flour as wheat flour to make these. Great video!

we have been eating more 'awful offal' lately, found some lambs hearts reduced so had them as a roast Sunday lunch - a leg of lamb is hideously expensive in the UK unless you can find it on offer - £16 per kilo - good variety of meals you have there
@@lynnestait8011 leg of lamb can be €45 a kilo here, hence we only eat it on a super sale. I love offal, especially liver. It's a flaming delicacy here so really expensive!!!

Dolly is just too adorable! I love seeing what you eat. We eat lots of “cook once, eat twice” meals, too. Easy on the cook as well as on the budget.
Was snoek the fish that people in Britain had on ration during WW2?
