This is what always blows my mind about hoopers. They've been playing the game for years yet can never figure out that all u have to do to lock someone up is throw them off their game. Of course u need to have the length, size, strength, speed, explosiveness, quick feet etc if they are really good. The better they are, the more weapons u need. But an avg defender can make your avg rec league player struggle by getting in his space and making him uncomfortable. EX: I usually guard the best player and if he's really good I start by hand checking him a bit outside the 3 pt line n making him work to just receive a pass. 9/10 the dudes game and confidence comes down right away. Learn this shit kids!!

@@donaldbiden636 Excessive hand checking is illegal. You can't just hold someone in place or impeded their progress by keeping your hands, or elbows on them. You can however keep touching, grabbing and pushing like the Aussie guy Mitch was doing to JLaw, just do it for very shorts lengths like him. When the offensive player doesn't have the ball, you can get away with a lot more. You'd be surprised at how deterred even a great player gets when u simply step in the way between them and their teammate who has the ball. That player is forced to start using screens, moving off ball and picking good spots on the court vs just catching where they want and tearing you apart w/ spacing 1 on 1.
Never let a great offensive player out of your sight! Make them give up on the play by letting their teammates put up a bad shot. If they want to post you up or push you back, get right back in their space. Later on back off then get back in it, force them left then right; make them guess what you'll do next. Make them work. I've coached before, hope this helps someone! Keep hoopin! 🏀

His defense is so seamless, it doesnt seem like he is exerting a lot of energy , he just has great positioning, i strive to be like this

I enjoy all your videos but this one had me on the edge of my seat. You can tell Mitch is a different breed. Defense is stifling and he allows you no edge whatsoever. Attention to detail, focused, powerful, clearly one of the best competitors you have had in your gym. Great video. Loved your effort. You should be proud of yourself. Mitch Creek is a beast! So glad I got to watch him on the Phoenix last season, so smooth in the midrange!
I think what throws jlaw off the most if that normally he can use his strength to bump the defender off him for easier looks. But this guys too big and strong for him to do that without throwing himself off balance
