    I've been in the business for 22 years. The business can destroy you mentally and physically IF you're not prepared! It looks so glamorous and easy on the surface; the fact is that you will work a crazy amount of hours each week, you have to be "thick-skinned" (you'll be told "no" a lot), you'll starve to death your first 5 years, and you have to have a tremendous amount of self-discipline! To be 100% honest, the most successful advisers that I've been around in our industry tend to be "workaholics"...they live, breathe and eat the business at all times! I don't mean to be all negative...just giving you the facts! It's an awesome business/career if you can survive...unfortunately, most don't.

      5 years of starving is an exaggeration. It’s 2-3 years for most companies you work for and some companies pay you base salary during the first few years just to help pass that 3 year mark.

      It’s a shit sales job. You’re not there to help. You’re there to bring in clients and sell them additional services you can offer.

    I got denied for the job because I wanted to help people. The lady (phone interviewer) said this is a sales job. :'( I wanted the job to help and teach people to be financially free and learn to invest/budget. You have to make sales not help people. For Fidelity, from what I read from forums and reviews is 2 million per quarter...

      TheSushiandme You need to become a CFP with fiduciary designation NAPFA, which is a fee-only advice. You become legally responsible to act in your clients’ best interest.

    So pretty much he went to college to work for somebody else to become self-employed? Hopefully, he isn't being crippled by student debt too. Don't get me wrong, I went to college for finance too. You gotta have a passion for what u do. But if I gotta bring in my own clients...wtf is this company doing for me??

    Most financial advisor positions do not require a bachelor's and definitely doesn't require a degree in finance. It only requires sales experience. For example, cold calling, door knocking, gathering leads/referrals, and prospecting. No financial analysis. Really sleazy job much like an insurance salesman. Sales, sales, sales, and no true financial knowledge involved. Sad!

      not true at all, lol. You need your CFP in order to become a financial advisor for any established financial services company (investment firms, investment banks, etc.). No idea what you're talking about. Wealth management, asset management, financial advisor (for a range of investment classes like bonds, equities, annuities, etc.). What are you even talking about?!

    • @oscarocampo4575
      @oscarocampo4575 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The job definitely takes a level of hustle to generate clients leads and referrals .. but to say that it takes no financial knowledge is 100 percent incorrect. Must have licenses to even talk finance. Knowledge of equity markets , and bond markets to maximize income, knowledge I annuities, pension plans, knowledge of social security and how it can help or hurt clients, knowledge of life insurance whole variable term r.o.p etc., taxes, cost basis, there is so much to financial planning these exmappes just touch the surface.. but the biggest part of the job is looking for qualified clients that's probably the reason why it may seem like a sales job we are often looking for the next client to help

      SevenFoot Pelican In order to manage clients assets you need your Finra Series 7 exam, which is a total of 6.5 hours (SIE part I and Series 7 Top off) also you’ll need the Series 66 license, life and health licenses as well, you have to know about investment products, tax planning strategies and many others. Yes, you do sales but you have to present a plan to clients and do reviews prior to a client moving forward.
