    Great vid, I would like to add a little tuning tip. By tuning the strings in this order it balances the tension and I find I can tune faster. The order is E-e-b-a-g-d, repeat that order each time you re-tune and presto. Hope you find this helpful. Cheers

      Good tip. I start on the middle two strings to work outward and go half the distance on the tuner past the opposite way of in tune until I get to the E strings. See the Doug Marks tuning video) Saves some of the teeter tawtering (spelling?) later on.

    Gotta give you credit man, I stopped and listened to your little opening channel jingle, and to my ear it sounds really well mixed, from EQ to volume and separation. Good stuff! It's a skill.
    In my experience, Floyds are pretty easy. Most people never stop to try and understanbd the physics of what's going on, and also there is natural string stretch. Even without a Floyd, your strings don't settle properly until the next day, and this is what frustrates most people I think. Patience is the key. I have a Floyd on a couple of my guitars and I regurlarly strip the strings off and restring them from scratch. Never at the same time ;) Once they are stable, they stay that way. About 24 hrs.

    when i worked at ibanez (hoshino usa), if the guitar is already set up , you can , relativly quickly change out the strings by doing them one at a time, in other words, leave the rest of the strings alone and only take off one at a time, when one string is done , move onto the next, next tip, bloc the trem with whatever you have on hand that will make that base plate level to thw guitar fret board, , crank on the springs till the block is held in place from tention alone , now string the guitar and tune it to whatever floats your boat, but the spring tention has to be enough to hold the blocker in place, when you are happy with the tuning, start releasing tention on the springs till the blocker just falls out, you now have an in tune floating tremolo, i hope that made sense, because after i was shown that by jim donahue , i never again had a problem with a floyd rose system, yes it works for all the different lisenced floyd systems

    15:07 Marty, buzzzzzer, you should thread the string cut end first through the tuners on the headstock with the ball end at the tuner, put at least 3 string winds, cut excess at the bridge and insert into the saddle block....tada, now if it breaks at the saddle , you simply unwind the string a bit and re-clamp in the bridge. Also, the string will never slip at the tuners now :)

  • @221b-l3t

    I've had a Floyd equipped guitar for 19 years. It was my first guitar (not recommended, first string change was done in the shop as 12yo me failed...).
    I knew pretty much none of this. For instance I have necer cut the end off the string. I just opened tje saddle all the way so it fit in... I didn't know you were supposed to tune it from the back, I always unlocked the nut. And it's the only guitar I never did a full setup on, which at this point I do constantly. It just got warm, all my necks aren't at the correct relief anymore.... Haven't played it in years (Ibanez RG) now I want to refinish the guitar, and remove the EMGs I put in at 14. So I figured maybe I should finally look into how a FR is supposed to be used... thanks! Should have done that 20 years ago.

    If you run the string down through the tuner and bolt in the already cut end, then you can cut the eyelet end off with some string length and you have 6 different gauge wires for poking out different size tiny holes on things like carburetors. Nice vid.

    Just got a FR and am doing some research before I change strings for the first time. This video is the most helpful Ive seen! You didnt skip over any important parts and described everything well... awesome job man!
    Two questions: 1) Ben Eller on his channel recommends getting the bridge flat, blocking the trem from moving in either direction, getting strings up to tune, stretch them, etc., then lock the nuts, remove the blocks, and use ONLY the claw screws to get the bridge back to level and strings will automatically get back in tune. Does that make sense to you?
    2) I'm changing from 9s to 10/9 hybrids like you did. If heavier strings makes the whammy bar seem more "stiff," can I safely remove one of the three springs? Or is that going to screw everything up? At what point would it make sense to do that?

  • @JawnCoffee
    @JawnCoffee 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Nice guitar.. I kinda do it the same except once I'm close I back out the claw screws a turn or two then block something in the back that sets the float. then u can tune and intonation with it blocked then tighten the claw screws until the strings go back in tune which is just about where the block in the back falls out.. it sounds confusing but it eliminates all the chasing and guesswork.. im basically putting it perfectly in tune with the perfect float without chasing, locking the nut, then it's just a matter of retightening the claw screws til everything falls perfectly back in place. Once I learned how which took about 15 years due to nobody teaching that way, I fell in love with floyds.. it's all I play now. I'm not saying your way is wrong but I feel it's still letting alot of room for beginners to get frustrated by the chase and give up on floyd roses alltogether. Cheers
