    so glad I came upon this video after watching many other videos, no other videos have shown testing of an faulty cable and what it means if number 4 or in your case pair 7-8 is not blinking. I newly crimped a cable and my tester is showing all LEDs lighting up except for number 4, and I just realize from this video number 4 is actually the solid blue wire. Now I can go and make sure the gold pins are punched all the way down, touching the blue wire. thanks

    I've got my coax flashing in sync with my final contact in the sequence. Is that something to be weary of?

    Thanks for the great video. The problem that I have is something (possibly an intermittently faulty cable) is causing my switch to go into some kind of fault mode. I bought a second switch to verify that it wasn't the switch, but that switch behaves the same way. Have you seen an intermittent fault like that that is powerful enough to cause a 24 port POE switch to "freak out" and stop working? Do you think a network cable tester like this would help me diagnose the problem?
    Many thanks, David

    What does it mean if all the lights are red? I’ve checked the patch panel and outlets and they look to match the color coding. Belkin cable tester if that makes a difference…

    Good video. This is the first wire tester I ever purchased, and I have two sets (bought a second when I couldn’t find the first). My situation is with the part that has the power switch: one has power, the other does not. Is there a battery inside the unit that can be replaced?

      Found the answer to my own question - #1 Phillips and two AAA batteries. Posting in case anyone else is wondering.

    Great explanation of all scenarios. I found my home panel is wired CAT 5e - 568A and all cables are 568B. One of my runs is capped at 100 MHz while the 7 others are at 1 GHz. I picked up the Klein LAN Scout Jr. 2 which uses numbers and used 568B patch cables which tested fine I am getting Fail 12345678 = 21654387. I looked at the patch panel and jack and they both are punched down as 568A and look fine. Any thoughts or insight you could share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    I'm getting on one end of my tester :
    12354678
    Not 12345678...
    Using 568A and both ends have been patched to suit type A
    Unsure what is might be

    Sir i am from india bangalore working in company
    my issue is when testing a cable with cable tester my 4-5 Light are missing
    please tell me what could be the issue

    • @NetworkAdvisor
      @NetworkAdvisor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know the tester is working? You have used the tester on another cable and test tester works fine? (All the lights). If the tester is good, then could the cable be cut?

  • @ed.t.hansen6499

    yes same problem what end can be tested to kwow what end to start wit on redoing. if no light; lets say on 7-8 then no connection on either. . I guess 50-50 what end to redo.

    • @NetworkAdvisor
      @NetworkAdvisor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right Ed, Other than visual inspection, this tool cant help you know which end to start correcting. Now, the musch more expensive cable verification meters can tell you approximately where then problem is. But not worth getting one of those tolls (like more than $1000 US) unless you do this work all the time.

    Hello, thanks so much for the amazing video. Sadly, it's not helping my situation. I'm running new lines to my house, and it's the first time I've ever done this. I'm pretty handy, so I thought it would be fairly self-explanatory. The first cable I ran I'm getting no lights besides 3-4.
    Normally, I would imagine that I screwed up somewhere on the keystone jack or the Cat6 tip, but I just read them both and I'm having the same problem. I ran the entire length of the line and don't see any damage so I'm not sure what's happening.

    • @NetworkAdvisor
      @NetworkAdvisor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hang in there Tony. Now, we know for certain the tester is OK? Like take cat5 or 6 patch cord you know it good and be sure the tester shows that at 100% (yes, testers can fail too).

    • @NetworkAdvisor
      @NetworkAdvisor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh another thing Tony... you mentioned Cat6 tips. You mean the Crimp on plugs? Or, you mean the RJ-45 jacks?

    • @TonyHarlan
      @TonyHarlan 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I finally got it. Redid the crimping Cat6 tip for the third time. My only guess would be that, when I was cutting the wires, I must not have gotten them straight enough so they weren't all connecting at the end?

    • @NetworkAdvisor
      @NetworkAdvisor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, that's common. Sometimes, one of the wires doesn't make it far enough up to the tip to make contact with the gold teeth (even though it may look fine when you visually inspect it.
      Glad you got it. Good work! :)

      do not get one like that. they have cheaper ones that are better. mine costed about $10 usd on amazon and it tests each wire separately. even the g in shielded wires.

    Hi i have this same tester but no matter cat5 i put in skips the light to pairs 3 and 6, i used a different tester and same cat5 passes...any ideas what the problem is?

    • @NetworkAdvisor
      @NetworkAdvisor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      sounds like one of the conductors (gold pins) inside that tester is bad. You can try rubbing on those gold pens with a pencil eraser. That sometimes clears of any corrosion. But, otherwise, it might be time for a new tester. :-/

    Is there a tool that I can just plug into the Ethernet wall jack to verify that it has power and working without having to know what the other end of the connection is ? If so can you give the brand/make/model of tool. Have some connections in house that don’t seem to work but want to verify if it indeed is that the Ethernet outlet doesn’t work. Thanks

    • @NetworkAdvisor
      @NetworkAdvisor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing inexpensive (that I know of). Byte Bros makes a tool for this but it’s like over $100usd. Overkill, unless you’re a tech for a living.
      One suggestion, if you have a laptop with a network port (or you can get a cheap usb network adapter for like $15), you could just walk around the house with that and see if you get a link light when you plug in to an outlet.

    It is stupid that they designed it with lights for wire pairs, and not for each wire. So you do not know which of the two wires are the issue. Most other testers provide 8 lights, one for each wire. I guess I will look at another tester instead. Also if you accidently reversed two wires which were no necessarily part of the same pair, you would know with 8 lights, but on this it would indicate a problem with 2 pairs which could be for 4 wires.
