I agree with the Michael Williamson comment. First: Great channel, great people, realistic fighting moves. These guys are real. I used to be partners in a gun shop in London, The Southern Armoury in the East end. And I used to hang at Elephant's Castle with crazy geezers so, I can tell these guys have been around. I'm an ex-cop from a big American city and have had many real fights, used knives as a cop, am a black belt in Kyokushinkai-kan, was trained by a WWII jiu jitsu instructor and jungle fighter starting as a kid. In a real knife fight, anything can happen and a trained knife person if his wrist is deflected, will immediately circle like a fencer. It also makes a big difference if it is a bowie, a 4" folder or a double edge dagger. I graduated the Koga school course of baton fighting and when I was armed with a regulation baton or blackjack, I don't care who it was, even if they had a knife, they went down and usually had a cracked skull. If they were not close, but needed only a couple giant steps to stab me, I did of course have the convenience of pulling a gun. The few times that situation occured, each offender dropped the knife so fast, like someone pulled it with a string. But please listen: if you have nothing and someone confronts you armed with even a cheap steak knife- Run if you can. Don't try any moves unless you have no way out. Run. No shame in it. It is not a contest and forget knife videos showing expensive knives that pierce car doors- even a 5.00 knife cuts human flesh!
Another great lesson. I’ve had a few fights over the years but never had a knife pulled on me. In my experience most people that start fights don’t have any training or experience, they’re just aggressive. I feel this bloke should have his own TV show. Highly skilled but also bags of charm and a great sense of humour.
I immediately liked it. Most knife-defenses focus on the weapon arm, but that puts you at a great disadvantage! It's much harder to stab you, when you keep moving and when the attacker has to think of protecting himself from incoming attacks, whereas when you wait for the attack you give an easy target and you probably fail at catching the arm and you can do only so many blocks or evasions until you get hit... Someone dazed or at least distracted is much easier to grab, hit, or whatever. Just a few words of warning: 1) small knives are meant to be felt not seen. If you're a small woman and try to keep a junky at bay with a tiny blade, chances are he'll straight up ignores it, even if he impales himself, or punches into the blade! On the other hand, if someone tries to attack you with a small blade, you'll probably won't see it coming! He'll attack you from behind and even if you see his attack, it will most likely look like an empty-handed attack, and when you try to block it, you might get skinned! 2) Many people draw knives not to kill you, but to threaten you, either to rob you or chase you off, scare you, etc. Thus, any hostile action from your side might escalate it into a life-and-death scenario, where there are no real winners. 3) if someone comes at you with a knife, your best chances are likely, to either KO him when he still thinks that you'll be only be thinking on defense, or to run away.

In layman's terms, when presented with a stimulus, your brain seeks options to engage the stimulus. So, not knowing when and how the knife attack will come, means you will either overestimate the attack, underestimate the attack, or accurately engage the attack. So this give us, roughly, a 33% chance of blocking any assault. If you are engaging a trained knife player, you will get shredded because no knife attack comes in one move. Cool video. After you block a knife attack be ready for a reverse slash, low kick or head butt. Not everyone is going to reset their stance after the first block. Attackers with training use combinations and keep attacking through blocks or getting counter punched
Since watching the video, I have run across other TH-cam videos depicting a very scary and uncommon type of knife attack, typical in prisons and such .. nicknamed "the sewing machine". As named, it involves the attacker rapidly thrusting their knife back and forth at their victim repeatedly, akin to a sewing machine needle being used to sew something. I did see various defenses to such an attack presented in TH-cam videos, including at least one using traditional Aikido techniques (which, IMHO, I believe might prove to not be effective/practical on the street). Would be curious to see what our Aikidoflow boys come up with to defend against such an attack. Based on those videos out there and the past A.F. videos on knife attacks, I would envision it involving using the "x-block" with the forearms to stop the initial thrust, then grabbing the attacker's wrist forcibly with both hands to immobilize it, possibly a well-placed knee blow, and then finally finishing with the execution of a joint lock/throwing technique of one type or another to (break the arm? wrist?) and disarm the attacker. ? KEEP GROWING, AIKIDOFLOWERS!

Funny but I'm a domestic violence survivor I'm thankful that as a cop I learned effective skills which worked when my ex wife went for the 8" kitchen knife
LOL @ the Deputy Barney Fife crossed-forearm knife block @ 5:14 .. Actually, that is a common knife block technique from traditional Jiu-Jitsu. I've always thought it to be pretty risky, though .. if not executed with precision (and superior strength) a real danger of sustaining a serious lacerating and incapacitating injury to the arm(s). 😟
Oops - upon review, Barney does not actually use the "x" knife block technique, but the bent arm "block and lock" technique .. as seen in this skit th-cam.com/video/6kRWIjesSLc/w-d-xo.html 😆
I can tell you for a fact that the two handed block for the 🔪 does work and what's also great is he doesn't try to capture that arm like every single self-defense instructor will tell you if someone is coming after you with a knife I don't care how hard you try you're not going to grab that arm in a way that isn't going to get you stabbed now in my personal opinion the sidestep really wouldn't work on someone with any kind of training because they're going to know that they should turn to present you their weapon
Front kick and run away as fast as you can to a public area or to a car so you can drive to the closest fire station with 911 on the phone. If you managed to not get harmed, then you should drive to the nearest police station.
Sir, please modify your first block. Our FMA training doesn't like that block because it's dangerous when he pulls it back into your hands. Very nice training BTW.
I fought a guy once in my life and he pulled out a knife on me he was trying to cutt my throat and I grabbed his hand an he was so powerfull that I couldn't move his hand and I gave him a right hook and knocked him out so boxing is the propper technique. But the best technique is to avoid the fight.
I was watching this video and started thinking "wow this move is so unrealistic" Then I had a realization. It's not about how he does the moves, how realistic the situation is he proposes, size, height, speed none of that but the technique. Watching this he talks about moving the head in a circle to throw the opponent off balance and a way to break the arm and now I can take these concept and apply them to the moves I already know. That's why this channel is so important and these lessons are important, they share a concept and concepts can be reimagined in whatever way makes sense to you.
Plus, usually, knowing you have a plan in your head gives you confidence which shows in your walk, head posture, manner of looking around ("SA" = Situational Awareness." Most predators see that and look for someone likely to be an easier target.
I was really lucky once. A guy who often used a knife had lunged at me with a knife. I saw it coming so I was able to turn sideways. The knife and his arm went passed me. The opportunity I saw was to grab his wrist with my right hand, my left hand onto his elbow and pushed him down to the ground by his elbow. At first he wouldn't let go of the knife.
I am 69 yrs old, walk with a cane and do not have the mobility of a young man. I am an easy mark for an attack. Are there techniques for older more vulnerable people or even overweight people ?
Great for tv show, but not on real life situation 😏 Remind me that Jim Carrey gig on martial arts. « I learned a great move on aikidoflow but you gotta attack me like this ! » 😂
A better technique two-handed block like he did in the first video segment physically push him back or backhand him to the temple if you have a firearm back up quickly draw and fire if not run away

Jolly good show mates.
love this channel.
Nothing is forbidden in a fight for your life!
That defense is stage 2, if you can't do knife defense 1 (RUN) because of lack of escape route.
Love this guy A+🥊🥋💪👍
Front kick and run away as fast as you can to a public area or to a car so you can drive to the closest fire station with 911 on the phone. If you managed to not get harmed, then you should drive to the nearest police station.
Thanks for this video great technieks
Sir, please modify your first block. Our FMA training doesn't like that block because it's dangerous when he pulls it back into your hands. Very nice training BTW.
Go train your legs so you can sprint faster instead lol
That's the best action if you confronted with a knife. This bullshido just builds up false confidence.
@@gonzo2495 Fist is beaten by knife but knife is beaten by guns.
@@jacobcoryell8258 I'm not a gun fan. Maybe because i live in an advanced country and not 'murica.
@@gonzo2495 Understandable but I'd rather bring a gun to a knife fight than my fists.
@@jacobcoryell8258 Thats for sure. lol

😁😄😄😄😄you guys are amazing
I fought a guy once in my life and he pulled out a knife on me he was trying to cutt my throat and I grabbed his hand an he was so powerfull that I couldn't move his hand and I gave him a right hook and knocked him out so boxing is the propper technique. But the best technique is to avoid the fight.
Great!!!! Thanks!!!!
I love the music so relaxing ha ha
Mums wooden spoon..or wooden heeled shoe...😂😂
The self confidence flows from you bro .how do you teach that..
Aye bro. Your voice is awesome. You should consider singing blues or jazz. Maybe even try voice acting.
Looks like a Canadian Maple Leaf on your vest..It's Canada day on July first but the weather in your video looks like January.
@@TimLake No wonder everyone is so upset in London..
You inspire me to get some defensive skills!
This is just outright dangerous now
Thanks
Why do you tie up two hands on the first block when the attack could be a feint?

"moms slipper is made to hurt somebody"
noice
What happened to the reverse grip attack? You started to show it and then forgot about it.
Wow this guy forced to be reckoned with, scarry stuff
Thanks again for sharing! What about a combat cane?
You are my hero
I love your videos :D
Thanks brother, mean a lot.
Would it be desirable to grab the chin in order to twist the head opposite of the attacking arm?
He should choreograph action stunts in movies/ TV shows.
That would be a dream come true.
@@azuspointofview5110 thanks for video...From Brazil.. Group Shikanai Sensei
Thanks for useful sharing
I am 69 yrs old, walk with a cane and do not have the mobility of a young man. I am an easy mark for an attack. Are there techniques for older more vulnerable people or even overweight people ?
Get a gun.
I couldn't fight bare knuckles with guy with knife. I could fight with steel self-defence baton stick.
That intro move scenario is greatly facilitated by the aggressor wearing SOCKS. Not too many guys in socks starting fights you know.
Where is your school in Nakuru or narok please
Great for tv show, but not on real life situation 😏
Remind me that Jim Carrey gig on martial arts. « I learned a great move on aikidoflow but you gotta attack me like this ! » 😂
What about knife attacks in the dark?
A better technique two-handed block like he did in the first video segment physically push him back or backhand him to the temple if you have a firearm back up quickly draw and fire if not run away
Don't hurt my precious part 🤣👍
How was this version of the theme song created and who does the vocals?
Can u create an app for phones for us easily to watch the videos anywhere
It's called TH-cam and you can install it quite easily
