  • This video tries to simulate a hypothetical war between China and Singapore. How would the distance impact the battles? What'd China use to get to Singapore? What can Singapore do to defend itself? This first part of the two part video series focuses on air war and naval war issues. The second part will talk more about ground troop invasion options.
    Part 2 can be found here: • Could Singapore defend...

    These scenarios ignore a few basic facts known to anyone who has spent a few years in Singapore.
    1) Singapore has compulsory National Service - virtually all men do a year or two of active duty and then two weeks every year until they reach a certain age. The urban planning in the city state is done very much with Civil Defense needs in mind.. The SDF training includes elements like advancing into the bordering areas of Malaysia, to create buffer zones there and bases for prolonged guerilla.
    2) Singapore hosts a US Navy supply base and most probably an attack on Singapore will be treated as an attack on the United States.
    3) Singapore keeps much of its Navy and Airforce assets outside the country, in Australia and New Zealand, partly to facilitate training, but more importantly, to mitigate the risk of a sudden destruction. These assets which include submarines will remain in the fight and will likely paralyze any shipping through the Malacca Strait for an extended period.
    In other words, short of a nuclear strike or a D-Day type amphibious landing, there will be no blitzkrieg in Singapore.

      Aren't there many ethnic Chinese in Singapore also? Why would they invade and probably kill/maim many of their own people? Similar to Taiwan also, maybe a reason an invasion has not been launched there yet. Many in the west don't realise launching an invasion purely on ideological/political grounds without any more deep-seated considerations is nigh on impossible...and the leaders of the invaders would have to justify to themselves and their senior lieutenants that there's an almost perfectly rational reason for doing it (no while publicly they may appear as yes men you can bet there would be many disputes behind closed doors, which appears even more so in PRC where Politburo appointments etc. would be done through negotiations rather than decree, fair to assume similar consultations would take place before any major military operation).

      If the PRC sent a force to attack Singapore, they’d be detected by the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam early on.
      Then they’ll warn the rest of SEA, the US, and Australia. Next move is we see a coalition fleet gathering to meet up with the SEA Navies to push back the PRC attack.

    To everyone who says that the US would most likely invade Singapore, note that the US is one of Singapore's largest defence suppliers.
    So no, the US would probably not invade Singapore. The real concern is India and China, mostly due to the strategic location of the Malacca and Singapore Straits, which allows quick access to the Indian Ocean. Would China invade Singapore? Yeah, it is possible. Malaysia is also caught in that crossfire, and has conducted naval drills, which are "totally not a message to China".

    In reality, in the event of relations between China-SG deteriorating until the point of war (which... Is extremely unlikely) our neighbours have a greater reason to not want a PRC occupied Singapore, hence there is no way they would not be involved in such a conflict. That alone would mean they'd be attacking the entire ASEAN region rather than just the smallest island nation sandwiched in between two ASEAN giants. Whether out of an alliance obligation or pure opportunism, it would be hard to imagine the US would stand idly by.
    I don't see why war would be a realistic option for the Chinese to take Singapore, they really just have to invest until they own a lot of it

    Rather absurd, but entertaining scenario as always. I think one significant miss in this scenario is the role of the H-6K/H-6N bombers (I'm surprised Binkov mentioned H-6U refuelers, but not the bombers). They have sufficient combat radius to reach Singapore (SG), even if taking off from Hainan island. & they carry a bigger cruise missile/ALBM payload, relative to J-16s or JH-7As. In the initial phase outlined in this video, I think IRBMs & HGVs will be used for airfield bombardment to start, the 2 CVBGs will provide close air cover, due to their J-15s' proximity (& thus increased loitering time) over SG, as well as the availability of air defenses from the rest of the fleet, & the SCS based fighters (including J-20) will perform mop up to ensure air supremacy. H-6s will be providing not only refueling, but also deliver stand off cruise missiles to destroy or suppress SG air & naval assets.

    Singapore is a city-state smaller than the New York Metropolitan area. Without any allied help, they would be annihilated sadly.

    • @danielc2701
      @danielc2701 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree. Singapore has conscription which can generate a lot of soldiers in a very short time. Unless China goes to a total war footing as well, the numbers are actually about even.

    • @solomonokoli212
      @solomonokoli212 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielc2701 The problem isn't even the foot soldiers, it's the production. China's economy is literally 40+ times that of Singapore's, while manufacturing output is over 60 times. Without any significant help, Singapore would be quickly overwhelmed. Being a small coastal city-state with an area less than 300 square miles doesn't help. China could just easily send hundreds of bombers or thousands of cruise missiles to destroy Singapore air defenses and industrial capacity and scores of surface combatants to wipe out their navy and form a blockade, all while replenishing any assets lost to Singapore's military

    • @danielc2701
      @danielc2701 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@solomonokoli212 You make it sound like it's easy to squeeze 1000 cruise missiles into the field, much less squeeze 100 bombers into an airfield. Talk is cheap, doing is hard. And talking about "economy" is useless unless you think you're going to throw money at the enemy. Logistics is the key and China will have one hell of a problem with logistics at that range. A division uses 5,000 tons of ammunition fighting a day and about 400 tons of food. PER DAY. A single fighter uses in one day the carry load of a single C-5 (actually closer to 24 : 20, 24 fighters for 20 C-5 loads).

      @@kentershackle1329 It's been factored into the calculations. There are reserves enough for 3 months buried underground. Something that is not commonly known. Anything marked as "strategic resource" is stockpiled, even strangely enough, sand. You can go check it up. Though I do admit sieging the city is the most intelligent way to go about reducing it. It just won't be easy, Singapore loves to hide stuff about their capabilities, so expect surprises. There are reports of them basing fighters out of New Zealand and Australia so there is even a high chance of a counterattack from the rear.
