One of my all time favorite bottles. It’s just the perfect combination of sherry and smoke. I like them together so much more than whiskies that have either one clearly dominant.
Bought a bottle of SB15 last year whilst on a tour up to Uban. Managed to get it for £75 which was a really good price! Very very nice! I love that level of peat and the distinct Campbeltown taste. Probably one of my favourite bottles. Just a shame it’s hard to get. I’ve been stretching the bottle out as much as possible.
For me, there is no doubt, Springbank is the GOAT among the whisky distilleries. Their stuff is unfortunately so hard to find down out way, but from what I hear they don't have these problems in the US.
Hi Erik, Thanks for this excellent video. Yes, Springbank is one of my all-time distilleries. SB is overpriced now in the German market. Same as in US or UK. Recommended sales price is 89 EUR and thank god I have my honest and old-fashioned whisky dealer nearby. Waiting for their latest deliveries from SB and the price they will ask. Cheers from Germany
16.25 Scottish time 🫡 will be heading to Campbelltoon tomorrow delivering propane to glen Scotia, and will pop into springbank for a wee rummage 😉🥃🥃 nice video Eric slang
Great video. It’s pretty hard to come by any springbank where I am but the whiskey community is great and some new friends were able to source me a bottle for msrp so I feel very fortunate. Cheers!
Appreciate the review Erik. Not sure where you can find this for $100-$120 though. Bottle Barn has it for $140, and their prices are usually tough to beat. Hope Half Moon Bay is working out for you, Cheers!
I paid MSRP. I would not pay more than $120. I have friends/acquaintances in retail and distribution who can get me just about anything I am looking for at retail prices.
Got one a year ago for $120. I almost passed. Little did I know it's now $300 to replace. Glad I got it. It's an awesome bottle but at MSRP or slightly above. Prices for all SBs (and now Kilkerran too) are just crazy
Incredible MSRP in the USA is 120 USD.. that is £100 (GBP). I think MSRP in the Uk is in the order of £60. Although now days as you say it’s very challenging to get one. I wonder what’s pushing your MSRP up so high from UK prices? Import tariffs?
Nice video. When I was at the distillery they had mentioned they found a peat source from near Inverness they really liked. I forget which year they switched over, but it wasn’t terribly long ago (older stuff is still using the old peat source).
I didn't know they sourced peat from Islay... I agree only the end product matters. The 15 is a solid dram and they have been good the last 2 releases.
I've got one book that states they use peat from Islay and another that states they use locally cut peat. Also, check out: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springbank_distillery
Stunning whisky..if you can find it and of course afford it..can't believe how much this has risen in cost since my first meeting with it over 15 years ago..🥃🙂
Its lovely stuff but the prices (at least in south africa) have gone nuts. For reference in 2020 I bought a bottle of 10 year old and a bottle of 15 year old plus a 12 cask strength. The 10 cost me R 890. 00 and the 15 R 1420. (SA Rand). at the same store last week the 10 is R 1995 and the 15 R 3999. Now the rand has weakened a bit, but somebody is taking the piss. Great review though. Cheers.
Nice video, Only ever had one bottle that I loved before the madness set in, getting harder to watch whiskeytube raving about Springbank when it’s so unavailable to a lot of people
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies yeah understand eric but the allocations down here in Australia are so small it’s stupid. You Americans are lucky to get the bulk of supply.
Someone else already made this comment, there are sources that state they get peat from Islay. Here is just one: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springbank_distillery
It happened on a farm which is along highway 92 which runs from Half Moon Bay to the San Mateo Bridge and over the East Bay. I drive by that farm every day going to/from work. When I drove by the farm yesterday on my way home there were a lot of police cars, ambulances, news crews etc. but the tragic event was over.

Found the 15 recently at a liquor store however the price tag is $299 and the same place had the 10 year old at $175. Way to much for me, would never pay that much. I do have 2 bottles I bought a few years ago for around $140 apiece. Guess I need to take care of them along with a 12 year cask strength one.
A great whisky for sure. But unavailability, ballot purchasing and secondary market scalping has me turned off all Springbanks completely. Theres plenty of available integrity 15s about. Some of which are the equal, (and some better than) comparable SBs.
For me Springbank 15 year was & is legit but has become overhyped. I’ll also add overpriced. Before in my area it was $105 before tax. Great taste at the price point. Sherry smoke and some funk. Depending on what I had that day or my mood I would pick up certain flavors. Just so good. Now I have to pay $160 before tax for 70cl. Deserves hype but overpriced.
July 3, 2023 - I’m writing this while at the Springbank Whisky School. They use more than one source for peat. Currently from Inverness.

Definitely one I want to try but won't overpay for. Good review.

You are totally right. Nowadays it is very hart to get hold of a new bottle of SB 15 for a decent price. Cheers from Germany
My favorite bottle so far.......such a beautiful balance of sweet fruit and smokey BBQ......just luscious.

Definitely worth the hype for MSRP. Got a bottle of 2022 batch for $120. Good stuff

erik, the batch variation is quite significant so its always best to post/add the batch youre tasting - the inkjet malarkey :)
Thanks for the tip.
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies thanks? and the batch is ? the year??

I found some sources stating Islay and other saying local peat.
You were saying that Springbank is the only one barley to bottle? What about The Balevenie? I think they do everything but the bottling.
There are 8 distilleries that malt SOME of their own barley (usually around 20%). Only Springbank malts 100% of their own barley.
was that a sound effect at 12:43?
It's a fart

i think the truth explains it all why the older bottles cost and taste much more and better than the contemporary bottles😊
Good luck finding one for $100-125. These were $130 retail in the Midwest pre-COVID. Currently $167.
Their like hens teeth

Sometimes getting a difficulty requires hiring a whisky pimp to find it for you.
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies yeah understand eric but the allocations down here in Australia are so small it’s stupid. You Americans are lucky to get the bulk of supply.
Their peat does not come from Islay though - it's from the mainland, Aberdeenshire if I'm not mistaken.

what's the bottling year / code? Great review mate

What what your in half moon bay. So sorry for what happened. I’m over the hill in Brisbane.
It was a shock for sure. It has been a strange season with the crazy storms, the sink hole in 92.... but I love living in HMB.
Hope you are safe Eric , heard about the horrible shooting in half moon bay. What a travesty I love hmb neighborhood

Correct me if I'm wrong but I just heard of a mass shooting in your area. Hoping all is well.

Just bought 6 bottles or 10 yo for £55 a bottle
I think SB does in fact grind their own barley. Not true?
Yes, with a Porteus mill.
Got the 15 but not with the box. Is it posibly fake?
I would not use the box as an indicator of authenticity. It is best to inspect the cap and cork to see if they have been tampered.
No box for SB regular product range from 2023 as I know thus far
