    As a disclaimer, this list is neither a social commentary, nor a guide on which are the nicest towns to live, but purely a judgement on the aesthetics of each respective town centre.

    I live in Cape Town since 1995 where there is a suburb ,Pinelands,modelled upon welwyn Garden City even a road named Welwyn Ave. It is a leafy,pleasant place. I would have been disappointed if Hitchin was not included as I knew it well,having close relatives who lived there & worked there before emigrating.

Yes, the normally accepted spelling in recent times has been Stuart, but the reality is that the family name derived from a title one of their forebears had held - and is still held by the Prince of Wales, that being Grand Steward of Scotland. It was not rendered as Stuart very often throughout the manyyears of them being the ruling house in Scotland.

    I’m shocked , shocked I tells thee , that my own town of Watford aka “Grotty Watty” didn’t make the list . Actually I’m not , as the High Street’s a craphole , although we do have some of the best parks in the country . The last film in the “cornetto trilogy” (Shaun of The Dead , Hot Fuzz & The Worlds End) was filmed in Letchworth & Welwyn , you’ll have recognised the high street straight away if you’ve seen the film

  • @rogerking7258
    @rogerking7258 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

    How on earth can you include Bishop's Stortford in this list? I grew up there in the fifties and sixties when it was absolutely lovely, but the insidious process of "modernisation" started in the late sixties. Just one example of what they did was to fill in the river and waterfall in the town centre and replace them with a car park. Since then it's been a non-stop process of cramming in more and more multi-storey car parks and unlovely residential buildings; and you should see the cinema; one of the ugliest buildings on the planet. I got out of there in 1980 and have never regretted it.

    Great video and great narration. You taught me a lot about my home county. I had family who lived in Stanborough, Welwyn, and always thought it was a lovely place to live. And I have family still living in other parts around the county.
    However I was thrilled to see my own birthplace as number one, the city where my parents grew up [within walking distance of Hatfield Aerodrome], went to school, married, where my brother and I were born - although dad was head hunted and we grew up in NZ. However my heart has always been in St. Albans [I just wish I could afford to live there but that is well out of my reach unfortunately] and the cathedral is, to me, the most beautiful in the country.
    AVE VERULAMIUM.
    And have you covered Suffolk, I lived in both Clare [my grandparents moved there from St. Albans] and Stowmarket and still fondly remember Sudbury, Bury St. Edmonds, Ipswich, as they were 30 years ago. While Long Melford will be known to many thanks to Lovejoy.
