OMG, I read the description and I feel pretty vindicated. This boss is pretty jank. I've been told I'm crazy, I don't understand the boss, I have a skill issue... No the fight is just inconsistent. It literally feels unfinished to me.
nah you right. And I even liked this boss a lot for a casual run but its hell for challenge running. Bayle is lobotomized and elden ring fire bouncing is still a thing for whatever reason
if you roll then i dont see how can you find this boss unfinished?? like every move is telegraphed and easily dodgeable. like it might actually be a skill issue because i can easily no hit this boss now, idk about no roll tho lol i havent tried that yet
awesome fight. i was wondering if no rolls would be possible on this. it's interesting that the solution is to fight him in what would normally be a "bad" way (ignoring the head). your ability to recognize attacks with the barest of information is pretty remarkable. i also love using the side of the arena for the divebomb attack. a bit of placidusax tech there. well done!
Yeah, the dive bomb is always dodgeable, but using the wall like this gets you closer to the boss after landing (and being at range isn't safe). I did get hit to the bursting AoEs once while hugging the wall so I can't say it's 100%, but I did it a lot and only had that happen once. As for the head thing, the base of the tail takes the same damage as the head so it's less bad than one might expect (hitting legs as I do a lot is obviously much worse though)
@@mouseinatutu Interesting, I didn't know that about that the tail. Does it do the same poise damage as head hits as well? And does that apply only to Bayle, or to other dragons as well?
@@justinhowe3878 No clue, but I'd assume it did the same. And I don't remember seeing the other dragons take more damage to their tails, but I haven't fought any in a long time. The dragons in the DLC I've just run past :P
Oh man this boss is so jank - like I'm doing a shield only no roll run and this boss is just outright horrible. It's block angles are jank, fires jumping, being stuck in legs, and so many more... I can see how rolling would make this fight more well built but I guess in a way this is one of the bosses where either Fromsoft didn't consider the no rolling plays (or heck even block build) or other bosses just happened to be no roll-able by coincidence. Huge respect to you for doing this without even blocking!
Yeah, this boss needed some more time in the oven for sure. GL with your run, I've done shield only before, but not no roll with it. Sounds interesting
@@mouseinatutu Thanks, and if you ever do, please upload them, interested in your take! It elevates the run in a few ways if you take the no-hit out of the equation - altho no-hit may still be interesting but that's not the point unless it can't be helped - like Malenia.
I hate how it’s so inconsistent. Elden Ring dragon fire is horribly designed, but in addition, this boss’s AI is sometimes broken, which keeps it from being an S-tier boss for me. Nice to see you have similar thoughts in your description
For reference, you can dodge line fire. I learned to do it very consistently, its juat damn hard. I can post a video of it once I get back to the DLC since I went into NG +2 already I didnt know the fire bounced though. Looking at it I thought it was just straight up tracking me. Had to use Bloodhound's for that, and rven then I could barely dodge jt
@@mouseinatutu Did you mean dodging without rolling? Cause if that's what you meant, then I'm talking nonsense. I was referring to just dodging it with rolling
@@maughtayo Yeah, this is a no roll video, so that is what I was referring to. It's dodgeable as shown in the clips, but as far as I could tell only if you were at Bayle's back half when it started. Also, not sure the flying like breath bounces, but the regular fire breaths do
fighting him casually i felt like he'd suck for these kinds of runs, and wow looks like i was right!! gg btw do you knoe if theres any rhyme or reason to whether he'll do the "fire breath in a straight line towards you that slowly tracks as you run to the side" or instead lead his shot and send the fire in front of the way youre running?
You were certainly correct. As for the fire, no clue, though I think the jump-straight fire and just standalone fire is one of the differences. Jumping sideways dodges it most of the time, though even if it's not leading it can bounce into you. The aiming is really weird, going in front as you say, completely straight or even aiming away from you. I'm not sure if this is intentional or not, or if it's some weird behaviour such as the boss turning away from you and staring at walls, doing ranged attacks when you're right next to or behind it, and doing melee attacks when you're on the opposite side of the arena from it... This boss probably needed a bit more time in the oven
@@mouseinatutu I'm convinced that the boss "leading you" with the fire is an AI bug, and he's just not aiming where he's supposed to. Sometimes it happens that it's where you're traveling and it feels like it happened on purpose, but I doubt it.
I was very curious how the flying flamebreath could even be dodged. I suppose I should have known the answer was janky AI. Now someone just needs to figure out Metyr's stupid floating laserfest.
There's a couple clips of flying flamebreath in the description if you didn't see that. It's dodgeable as long as you're at the back half of the boss. If in front there's no chance unless the fire projectiles end up under the ground (which happens a fair bit actually). Metyr looks ridiculous...
Do you mind to elaborate how you manage to get at least 15 in all stats and 40 str in rl1? My math is not making much sense, even considering the gear you're using.

I’m sorry but I think you gotta take a break from doing the no-roll challenge runs lmao. Because Bayle is actually an amazing boss if you fight him as intended, but as with any boss, if you don’t take breaks when you get frustrated you’re just gonna end up hating the boss (I used to hate Mohg because I died so much to him, but once I beat him a few times in subsequent playthroughs I can see why people like Mohg as a boss so much.) Also the big fire attacks aren’t undodgeable, only unavoidable by these specific restrictions lol. That attack has never hit me when I’m playing normally, even when I’m panic rolling.
Rolls can help mitigate some of the issues, but it doesn't fix his broken AI or his random bouncing fire. Also: IDK where you got the idea his big fire attacks aren't dodgeable in no roll.
