    Can you do one on the Converter? It's always fun to find where they put it. It's an interesting way for a fat disabled guy to climb through the basement, over the furnace just to change the 2 fuses that went out.

      rule of thumb
      if you hear fans under your breaker panel box then it’s there.
      5th wheel it will be behind the false wall in the front cargo area.
      motor home….ANYWHERE

    Most Automatic Generator Transfer Switches use AC coil that buzz - hum. I found only one company that uses DC coils that do not buzz and hum: SCO, they make both a 30amp the LPT30BRD and 50 amp Automatic Transfer Switches.

    Great lesson, thanks! Experiencing the same problem you described at the end of the video. Generator powers on appliances, but shore power will not. I tapped the transfer box with the handle of a screwdriver and voila, the shore power switched flipped and now works properly. Is it a fire hazard?

    • @NationalRVTrainingAcademy
      @NationalRVTrainingAcademy  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ShartKart could be. The contacts freezing up is a sign of failure which in combination with electricity is a hazard.

    All the transfer switches I work with have a mechanical interlock that will physically block the gen power and shore power from being interconnected at the same time. If one set of contacts welds, it will not allow the switch to physically operate, double redundancy to protect the rv circuits. Also most have a delay mechanism on both sets of contacts so the switchover isnt instantaneous which will damage components in the rv. Its not uncommon for there to be about a 10 second delay in switchover, this allows the generator to come up to full speed, without this delay the generator may not have enough power for the demand and will not produce any power. The best ones will run a prime then thru an extra set of contacts, will auto start the generator. Best advice, keep your generator serviced with regular weekly run times of a few minutes.

    Why would my transfer switch trip the shore power breaker when I put the transfer switch lid on? I found the lid off on my 41301A box. When I put it on it keeps tripping my shore power breaker

    My RV control panel shows "Shore Power Fault". Power is working in RV with no problems. I connected to another 120 volt power source and am getting the same error message. So i know its not the RV plug coming from my house. Would this error have anything to do with the transfer switch? Thanks. Ronnie.

    Should be option for the ATS to start n stop your generator.
    Still a great product!

    Anyway to install shore and generator so that shore power gets priority? Meaning pedestal power is out....turn on generator. When shore power is back on. It would switch from generator to shore automatically.

  • @timl9495
    @timl9495 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I guess the question is, if you have both the generator and shore power on, how does the ATS know which one to turn off? Does one have a priority?

    does(or can) this transfer switch ALSO choose between 110 & 12v?🤔 - I mEn I do hEr that click everytime the power, unknown why, shuts off - then the click(behind circuit breakers), as it comes back on… but no generator✋

    What if I don't have a generator but I have two different shore power plugs on the RV to run to the RV Park pedestal one at the back of the trailer and if I add one to the side of the trailer incase the Park pedestal to to far away from one plug I can use the other plug. Do I use a transfer switch or just a junction box and make sure I never plug two cords at the same time?

    What if your inverter is not turning on your appliances? Does the ATS have anything to do with it?

  • @Joker45678

    Do those also prevent back feeding the electrical grid when the generator is on? So someone working on the lines in the park doesn't get a shocking new hairdo?

    I have a 50amp RV that is pre-wired for a generator with an Auto transfer switch. I mounted a 30 amp portable generator on to a cargo carrier using the trailer hitch (I can tow 5000 lbs with this hitch on my fifth wheel). I hard wired the portable gen into the pre-wired electric box for the onboard gen. I discovered that unless I connect the 30 amp L1 wire from the generator to both the L1/L2 wires which feed the transfer switch, the transfer switch will not switch to the generator feed. Is this what I should expect? Am I doing something wrong? Is there a 50/30 amp transfer switch? I installed the Victron Multiplus II 12/3000 inverter. The issue is that the inverter can’t see, and report correctly which power source the RV is using because both L1 and L2 always have power. According to the inverter manuals, L1 is shore power and L2 is generator. But when power is on both lines it sees it as shore power. In theory, if there was only power on L2 it knows it is a generator and automatically transfers power to both sides of the inverter output. Thanks. After I retire I am going to enroll in your school. Love what you are doing for the RV world.

      no the surge protector just optimizes the 120v shore power. the ats is after

      Ha Ha, too funny. RV engineers are assholes in a class all their own, just try to find a slide controller in a class c for the bedroom. Remember most RVs are built from the inside out unlike normal engineers who design from the outside in as in structures.

    I am adding shore power and solar power. I have an inverter and a power panel/converter and all the controllers. I bought an auto transfer switch, but it is advertised as a Solar Transfer Switch. Does this mean I need two switches, like one for solar and one for shore/generator power coming into my trailer? Thanks to anyone who can answer this question.

  • @DinoCarroll

    I have a 50 amp class A motorhome with at 50 amp ATS but neither shore power or generator power is charging my house batteries...my solar panels charge my batteries and so does the engine alternator under the hood...what's up with my ATS?

    • @NationalRVTrainingAcademy
      @NationalRVTrainingAcademy  ปีที่แล้ว

      So the ATS goes to the breaker panel box. If you have 120v to your air conditioner abd microwave on both shore AND then the ATS isn’t the problem.
      Converter is what takes the 120v and charges the battery. Is that breaker to the converter on? Reset it. Is the battery disconnect in the proper position? Start there.

      @@NationalRVTrainingAcademy Thanks for the suggestion. It was the converter/charger that was malfunctioning...mystery solved...thanks again!!!!

    Do they make a manual transfer switch?

    • @NationalRVTrainingAcademy
      @NationalRVTrainingAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes. they were out before the ATS

    • @ricksmith7631
      @ricksmith7631 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      they are mostly non existent now except in a few older models. the cheap way they deign them now is to give you enough shore power cord to reach the 30 amp plug on the generator or wire a box to plug into in the cord compartment.

    The scenario of not having to go outside to do anything and just flipping the switch to start the generator on to switch from shore power, at least for my Onan 4000, is false. The power cord has to physically be pulled from the shore power supply and plugged in the generator to use it. Other than that, your info was great.
