  • This one took me a long time to edit and I apologize for not getting this out to you all sooner. In this video Jim does a very basic, but beautiful, carving on the Kibler Woodsrunner that involves a toe line, a volute on each side of the comb and a cheek carving. Jim demonstrates various techniques including incise carving with a v-tool, relief carving, and scraping with a chisel.

I bought a Woodsrunner with the intention of carving it. Then you came out with the precarved version, and I thought about selling my new kit in order to buy a precarved one. Now, with you making it look so easy, I will keep the kit and carve it myself.

But I do have trouble getting a v gouge sharp and sharp is everything since it cuts instead of crushes. I envy Jim's control of the gouge with that chasing hammer. But we all know this ain't his first rodeo! Nice job!

One question I always had was, how deep do you typically go with the incised carving? But this video shows pretty well how “imperfect “ it should be. And I’ve never really seen relief carving being done up close like this. My next build I think I may go a little further with carving. Thank you
