  • Safety valves are notably one of the most important components on a steam boiler. While the boiler is loaded with safety features, most of which have complete redundancy. The boilers' safety relief valve is the last line of defense in the event of an overpressurization. The safety valve, sometimes referred to as a relief valve is installed on the vessel and will automatically open when the pressure on the inlet side of the boiler becomes higher than the preset pressure of the valve itself. Understanding the design and features of a safety valve is important for operators and plant managers, and today on SteamWorks that is exactly what we are doing, taking an up-close look at steam boiler safety valves.

    I’m planning on constructing a steam locomotive. And this video was a truly fascinating part of my research.

      We will have to see when our valve shop may have something like this in their line up.

      You need a cast iron or copper plate with the center machined out so that the edges rest on the seat. Apply lapping paste and oil and rotate the plate. If the condition is particularly bad then you may need to use sandpaper first or machine the surface on the lathe.

    Hello, i have safety valve in Sea water line, which has 2 springs external and internal. What is the use of 2 springs?
    Thanks in advance.

      Without seeing the valve it would be hard to say. Many safety valves are spring loaded, some do have exposed springs while some may be internal to the valve itself. There are some valves that have multi-ports. Multi-port valves will have independent springs on each outlet port.

    Is the cost of re-certifying a safety valve lower than buying a new SRV?

    • @powermechanical
      @powermechanical  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ Jose Duran, This can depend a lot on the size of the valve. Based on the majority of valves that are regularly re-set/re-certified then Absolutely. Some of these valves can be several thousands of dollars to purchase.

      @pratheesh ravikumar ... We would need some more details to get you on the right valve. However, Kunkle manufactures Section 1 High temperature hot water valves. Look up the Kunkle model 927 and see if that is what you are after. Feel free to call for a quote on this valve 1-877-764-7832
