      Yes the headlamp look pretty bright I'm personally I'm never like headlamps they always are falling off and I don't like them strapped my head. Although I do understand how useful they can be

    18650 works in these btw.

    I have the green version of this. And I find that using this in the dark zooming out is best for long distance viewing of light versus zoomed in which is more of a up close way of seeing things.

    Quantum flashlights are one of those rare items that are affordable but in turn they are great quality, most of the time this formula does not work for us the consumer, Affordable=bad but in this case i couldn't be more happier, i have this model and about every model they have made,i have them everywhere,in my car, at work, home etc, of probably 13 i have bought i had problems with one,thats it, the rest i have given away, lost ,destroyed etc.
    They are bright and rugged and cheap, one of our salesmen at work yesterday brought me one of the highest priced competitors to these flashlights (his personal one) to see if i could fix it for him,it had corroded inside and the switch on top was broken,i ordered him a new switch and cleaned it for him and while i was doing this i was thinking to myself "uh, i guess these high dollar ones break down sometimes too,lol"
    All in all i really like these flashlights and i recommend them for just about anything, i have used them and abused them.

    I love my quantum 588, but the batteries have to be fresh for it to be that bright. They will work for a long time on a set of batteries overall, but after a while they're only as bright as your average pen light.

    I was in a bind the other night & this was the only flashlight I had putting a touchscreen back in a Cadillac. It seems I couldn't touch that damn thing without the strobe coming on. I was creating new cuss words, because the regular ones weren't working. I got it, that's all that matters.

    I have one that I use at work (I'm a heavy truck mechanic) and it's a fantastic light. I only have 2 complaints, 1, wish it used an 18650 rechargeable, and 2, I wish it had a pocket clip. I carry a flashlight all day. It's daaark under a truck when you're doing an inspection.

    Great great review...but one thing i wanted to mention is you accully can put a 18650 Lithium single battery😃😃 Its the spring at front of the flashlight that sturdy just push down a little further and it accully goes down and locks..been using this way for a month now work GREAT!!but like any flash light pushing true 588 lumens does get warm to the touch. I dont intend to use the flash light more than 15 min or less so works out for me. I'm sure if I were to keep it on for 1hr something would burn out and may no longer work. But but BUT I have to say the light is ACCULLY EVEN BRIGHTER!? with the 18650 Lithium Battery my dad was shocked! As was I🤯🤯🤯 FOR 10$ why not!

    Any clue on how to remove the lens for cleaning? I found the threaded ring at the bottom end that looks like a pair of snap ring pliers would allow you to unscrew it, and maybe access the bulb....but I couldn't get that to turn. Maybe use an O ring pick and pry out the black plastic retainer ring around the lens, from the top? Great light but very frustrating to work on....especially for a task that shouldn't take more than 6 seconds........

    I have been using the Harbor Freight Quantum 588 Lumen Adjustable Focus Flashlight for at least 2 years. It is great for walking the dog at night. I love the flashlight and it works great. I wanted to have a lanyard attached to it so I actually drilled a small hole on the lip of the butt end and then attached a lanyard. Very simple and easy alteration.
    I have one thing that annoys me regarding the flashlight. It starts to gradually dim when I have it on high power. It is very noticeable within 5 minutes. I also find that if I turn off the flashlight for a few seconds and restart it the brightness comes back, but it starts to dim again. I also find that if I have it on low power there is no noticeable dimming. I use Eneloop AAA batteries and I thought that may be the problem, so I tried it with Alkaline AAA batteries and had the same result. What would cause this dimming? Is the high power too hot for the flashlight? Is there something I can do to correct this dimming effect? Is there another flashlight that will hold its brightness? Please reply with your answers.

    • @CatusMaximus
      @CatusMaximus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's because it does not have a very good power regulator. When you have it on high there's a high current draw and the voltage drops causing the light to dim but on the low-power mode it's not running the batteries very hard so they were maintained their voltage better that way it doesn't appear to drop in brightness he would want to step up to something a bit more expensive that has better regulation.

    • @timharig

      There is a little plastic ring inside the front of the tube that holds the lens in place. It frequently pushes out and allows the lens to rattle. You can pry it out to remove the lens or push it back in to fix the rattling issue.

    The camera is reacting to the high mode of that cheap flashlight because of something called PWM..pulse width modulation. All cheap flashlights utilize this. Also that particular flashlight has been going by numerous other brand names for years and you can get it for as low as $4 new on eBay....Hell, you can even get like 5 of them for $10 from some sellers. If you want a REAL flashlight and want excellent guidance and real education on picking one go to candleforums.com. Those guys know what they are talking about. You will also find out that you can get a far superior flashlight for less than $40. Focusable flashlights are cool and all but a good fixed beam flashlight will always blow the pants off a zoomie ( focusable). But if you must have a zoomie and want one that puts this Harbor Freight one to shame then look at the WOWTAC ZOOM/FOCUSABLE flashlight. It’s even smaller than this Harbor Freight. Amazon carries it for about $40. But if you don’t want to spend more than $20 for flashlight...then never mind my comment
