This song was actually a last-minute addition to her setlist on that show, and to their surprise, was received very well by the masses. Her label later on released this live performance as a single due to public demand and it went #1 on various charts including Billboard Hot 100. This is the only song Mariah didn't write in her 19 #1 songs since it's a live cover

To answer your question, he released a solo album with Mariah's help, but it didn't really take off (even though "Someone To Hold" is amazing). He still sings backup for Mariah to this day, and is actually responsible for the fandom being called "Lambs."
