Your perfectly right bro! It very important not over play and in drums , the best drummers aren't the one that put the most I'm every! Harmony is fundamental and in this performance we lost a lot ! No Harmony no music, just noise. Specially in worship that the voice and the message is more important.
I agree. DB is crazy talented and his ability far exceeds my own. However, I do believe the drums, at least in worship music, are never the lead instrument. If a congregant gets lost because you’re playing against the beat or rhythm of a song, the drummer over played it. I also always consider that if the drummer on the record who is a paid full time recording artist kept it simple, there’s probably a reason why. If a more complex drum fill had more appeal to the Christian music market (or producer), then a more complex fill would have been used. Again, those fills are sick, but in this arrangement and environment I believe they took away from the song. My $.05. :-)
