    If the owner of the eqe (eqs) is basically the only driver of the car, there should be a feature where they can save their personal settings onto their personal key fob, so that even when someone else used the car, the driver with this fob will automatically have his settings and apply them when he starts up.

    For the fun factor, as an option, we should be able to turn on different engine sounds from older, and powerful Mercedes from the past for the EQE. One mayor issue in my opinion with electric car drive is missing the sound of an engine. Of course you can turn it off when you get tired of playing ;)

  • @seejayzerozero

    Thomas, great line of questions! Next time you talk to a MB rep, can you suggest they let the user's own preferences override the defaults? The car can default to a setting but after a user authenticates with their fingerprint, they should assume that the user isn't being "forced" into D-, it's their own choice. That seems like a reasonable compromise.

    Interesting, we’ll test the Eqs this Friday because we are in the market for an EV and the EQE is within our price range. I’m just wondering how the suv on the same platform will look like and when it will be available. Because, seeing this video gives me the impression the eqe isn’t that big on the inside. Default (out of the factory) drive modes are used for the tests because almost no drivers change away from defaults. Customer changes can still be remembered after they change the default without the tests getting messed up... Tesla might use one pedal driving by default, but it will remember preferences for each driver as well...

    I always use one-pedal driving mode in my car. I almost never use the brake pedal. I would think they could give the customer the option of maintaining the recuperation settings when the car is shut off.

    • @SDav21
      @SDav21 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is legislation. The car was certified in normal recuperation mode so any changes to your range is as a result of you altering a setting and not the manufacturer making a false claim I guess.

  • @Uniquecapture
    @Uniquecapture 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Personally I find that the highest recuperation mode requires a very sensitive right foot or you find your speed reducing below what was intended and as a result you then need to accelerate again and in my experience driving my EQC I find it has a negative impact on range and disgruntled passengers due to a jerky ride.
    Now you can say simply learn to drive more smoothly and I would agree but just image each time you lift off the accelerator beyond that needed to maintain your speed you get the effect of braking.
    What I have found to be effective is to drive with recuperation switched off and then apply it via the paddles as I wish to slow down, releasing it once my target speed has been achieved.

    Great video! One of the big issues current EQS owners have noticed is the inability for US owners to raise/lower the air car using the air suspension. This feature exists in hardware but seems to be enabled only for non-US markets and disabled here. I wonder if the US EQE would also be crippled in this manner and why this is so? Could you help me (and others) find out more about this feature that's been part of AirMATIC for many years now already? Thanks!
    PS: If Mercedes is reading these comments - this is a safety issue (I myself have had my car scrape some surfaces and am risking damage to my car which I shouldn't have to) and has already deterred many buyers from getting this vehicle. Please let us supporters and early adopters know about this, please! Remote parking is also another feature that was advertised but is unavailable!

Even according to the Mercedes support person I contacted, this feature is geographically limited (they couldn't tell me why or when we'd get the feature). All chip shortage related features are indicated in the vehicle equipment sheet with credit for unavailable items. This seems to be a deliberate software-based feature omission even when hardware is already installed.

    Having tested the EQS, I do not appreciate the “rolling” instead of the “recuperation” mode for the following reason : the feeling that you have on the the brake pedal is not good, is not constant, depending on the chosen recuperation mode… You first have the recuperation action (that varies with the amount of selected recuperation level) then the braking action finally coming. Two different sensations while using the brake pedal… I largely prefer to adapt the recuperation using the throttle (almost never have to brake with a Tesla f.e.) and have a consistent brake pedal whenever necessary!! Does it cost hundreds of thousands just to redo the efficiency test with different modes like high regen or sport mode? The current mode can be shown and immediately obviously editable on the zero layer hyperscreen so customer and passengers are extremely aware of the mode, if that is a concern also. It's not very lux to need manually setup a car again and again. And again.

    It would be great to pick a subtle V6 sound for the 350 models to mimic the very subtle smooth and strong sound of their old V6 models. It was lovely. The sound of those engines made the car feel strong and sounded so refined. Then for faster models like the EQS580 you can pick the V8 sound of a normal non AMG V8 like back when an E500 was still available (how I miss those times). For AMG53 models they can make the sound of the inline 6 and 63 models a choice between the old 55 supercharged V8, the NA 6.3 V8, the 5 litre turbo V8 or the 4 litre biturbo V8. It would be glorious. That way we can still have the fun of those and that refined engine feeling Mercedes was known for and we can always remember the great engines.
    The engines were part of a brand's identity. Being able to identify a car just by its engine note. I mean why can't it be an option? Choice isn't a bad thing. I would take the Audi A6 e-tron over this without any hesitation. 800V, 10-80% in 18mins instead of 30min (EQE), better design, also it is a liftback -> more practical, estate version will be available, will have a frunk (it's okay to not have it but at least Audi will allow you to open the hood).

    Another steering wheel with capacitive "buttons"... Give me tactile buttons for the driver... Doesn't look the same cool, but I'll prefer not to be looking at the buttons while driving.
    About recuperation, I like how Hyundai lets you go up and down with the paddles.. would be cool to default to intelligent recup, then have perhaps 3 levels of static recup, and one no-recuperation in the other direction.
    It's so easy to adjust while driving, when I rented a Hyundai I would up the recup when exiting the speed way to counter my "speed blindness" after hours at higher speeds.
    Could also make the intelligent recup adjust according to speed limits... But perhaps give the driver an audio/visual warning when changing.
    There are so many possibilities with these new technologies, it's difficult to regulate, however, regulations needs a full review at this point, in all countries. I can only imagine being a QA engineer at Mercedes having to certify the same car with 10 different setups to different markets... Must be frustrating.
    Edit: why doesn't the top car manufacturers go together and sketch out a thorough suggestion to all markets? Simply provide a template that governments can start out with and adjust to the local conditions. The politicians in government don't always drive to work themselves, but I know that each of the car manufacturers have their own customer support department that would have a lot of input from customers... And I'm sure that regulations tie their hands in many cases, even when it's not as silly as spaceship sounds.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes u can also change recuperating with the paddles - it just resets itself after startup again

      @@autogefuehl ah, good, haven't tried a Mercedes EV yet... But my preference of tactile buttons still stands. I should be looking at the road,, shame on Cupra for making it difficult to change not only adjusting the distance in adaptive cruise control difficult to do while driving, but also the climate control.
      Anyway, I really like the part where you challenge the engineer on more and more silly, tho clever, features. It made the video.
      Edit: i don't mind the reset, but I would like intelligent to be the default.. I mean, it's nice to know what to expect when you leave harbor, also on a rental... Perhaps ask another time whether to keep settings? I've tried to get a rental that was in take-off/sports mode.. not the best experience when I wanted to just carry the family a longer distance. Then the paddles can adjust to your driving style... Or AI should be able to read your temper from the way you use the pedals.

    • @BenjaminVestergaard
      @BenjaminVestergaard 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Worst I've tried was a Cupra because it's ACC is crazy aggressive. I'm sure it pissed off a few wrong-side overtakers, because once the coast was clear, it'd floor the pedal... And that little car could easily take them out on acceleration... When I ACC, I'd prefer to just lean back to monitor what's going on... But I could not adjust the ACC distance while driving, because that's a setting they have hidden 3 layers down on a touchscreen... That's something I would like to have on the steering wheel, rather than voice control and pick up a call.
      Edit: give me buttons, real buttons, related to the act of driving.

    The way the one-pedal driving is configured is MASSIVE con for me -- as I understand it anyway. I want "full recuperation mode" at ALL TIMES -- and it sounds like it constantly switches itself off.
    It sounds like you manually turn it on using the steering wheel, and then if you use it to come to a complete stop, say at a traffic light, it then turns itself back off. It also seems a bit dangerous because If I turn on "full recuperation mode", I may become accustomed to it, and then when it inevitably switches itself off, and I lift my food off the pedal, and don't get deceleration... that is dangerous!

    The fact that the default recuperation can not be set by customer and is not allowed by law is rubbish. In Korean EV-s you can set whichever recuperation level you wish from 0-3 or auto and set it so that it is also chosen next time you turn on the car. And I also do not get the efficiency talk by the Mercedes representative. It should not matter at all at which recuperation level you are. Or does Mercedes not recuperate when you press the brake pedal? Anyway the Mercedes representative did not leave a good impression. Great work by Thomas though! Thanks!

    Yes, full OPDEEEE :), but not by default :/. Good again you asked so intense. And as you might notice the driver speaks against full OPD and says he prefers using the brake pedal, but easily drives this car with full OPD not changing his right foots position. Cmon Mercedes, let your customers decide what's their preference, by default. No one will accuse you over this.
    The trunk seems a bit small because of the room reserved for air suspension and rear wheel steering...

    I prefer to look for the strengths and hate to criticise, but I always have the hope that maybe MB scouts are reading along.
    Super exciting - what the MB representative calls the good things from the EQS, are the biggest weaknesses in my eyes.
    Frankly, the technical side totally excites me, but as a potential buyer I have to say, once again the exterior design doesn't convince me at all and the operation is still a horror.
    MB and I will not get together in this generation. I hope they wanted to polarise and that the new E-Class will pick up the regular buyers, but I fear that the really lousy operating logic from the C- and S-Class will also be adopted here. I will definitely put my money elsewhere.
