  • While at home for an extended stay with my parents, I decided to use FlyBoa's method to build a Dollar Store Foam DLG glider.
This was my first effort and building a RC Glider. I didn't have any experience and really winged it using tools I could find in my Dad's garage. I ordered a cheap RC Transmitter and basically put something together.
This video is of the build and first flight attempts.
    Enjoy - Mike

You may have found this out by now, but flyboa uses 2 layers of dollar tree foam and takes the paper off of just on side of each layer, sands the foam sid of each layer and sandwich/glues them together.. each wing the has paper on the outside, top and bottom. The glued , laminated wing is very rigid and stiff. The builds ive seen , he doesnt even use a spar of any kind. I gotta do this. If your wings werent flexing that thing would have been a floater. Very cool.

Yes. I have 2nd plane with much stiffer wings that I haven't had a chance test yet.

3mil laminating film can be ironed on as a better replacement for the paper.
Available as discarded roll ends from copy shops.

Interesting video Mike. The guys around here who fly DLG all have those hi tech carbon ships. They do the DLG spin and really give those airframes a hard time. Plenty go Gs on launch. Didn’t know you could get such good results with foam wings and an alUminium (with a U) arrow shaft. Not the sort of thing you find lying around in basements this side of the pond. Aluminium arrowshafts. Not that many basements either. I digress. Thank you Mike for sharing your experience, taking the time, videoing your build and test flights. Hope your enjoying your flying. Thank you Mike. A.

Nice attempt! Let's say it had a self-adjusting dihedral

Ya know I am new to this and crashed 2 types of RC planes, now I decided to make a DLG because for one I think I started with more than my plate was ready for. Liked best part that fella asking you about the plane...he was impressed..so am I thank you!!
PS: Hope your Dad is OK?
    Peace !

I am still working up the guts to try making a DLG. I have made a number of foam board planes using Flite Test designs, but this looks like a significant step up in sophistication of the build. That said, this video is really encouraging me to just go for it and expect that modifications and improvements are just part of it. Thanks for showing your process!
And kudos to you for helping your father to a solid recovery! I hope things go well for him.
