Looking forward to this because I have NO IDEA who this woman is, so YOU, this video, is my primary source on... Rachel Hollis. I'm not out of the loop because I am young. I am the mom of adult children.
I've never heard of this woman in my entire life and here I am watching a 50 minute commentary video about her downfall at 3 am and going "yeah! She had it coming"
I was a housekeeper for several years. If one of my clients referred to me as “the lady who cleans my toilets” I would quit. Its degrading and she meant for it to be.
I live in South Africa, and have someone that work in my house 4 times a week. I have health issues so she is a heaven sent. I have never thought, thank you she cleans my toilets. Sometime's the toilets get dirty and she is not here and I clean it, it's about your attitude.
I’m a house cleaner and my client would never even talk this way about me. She views me as a beautiful angel who makes her life easier…. Not a servant who she earned through her greatness to do menial tasks for her. Gross
She stopped apologizing so hard she wrote a book about it. Her fans had to read it when she spat in their faces about her divorce and nEvEr WaS rElAtAbLe, NeVeR tRiEd tO bE
Not the point but I kept thinking "what are you doing to your toilets that you consider it such an onerous task?" She made it sound like the pinnacle of success to pay someone else to do it. If I had four kids, I'd rather have a nanny.
I am a nurse, work hard to save lives but you know who is working just as hard??: The housekeeper on my trauma unit who keeps the rooms turning so we can keep the patients moving in/out. Without them, the whole thing would crash to a stop. I thank mine every day!! Interesting video, thanks for sharing!
My older friend works as a housekeeper on the trauma unit in our local hospital and does some private jobs alongside. It really is a very important job. I also thank her as much as I can, even If I dont work there. Also thank YOU for your service ❤️ nurses need more love and representation, it always seems like doctors take all of the spotlight, but without nurses like you hospitals wouldnt work either
Thank you for saying that! ❤ I was in the ER a few years ago for what turned out to be a kidney stone. I vomited with no warning. I kept apologizing to the gentleman that had to clean it up. He smiled and said “ma’am, this is my job. You worry about yourself right now, but I thank you for your concern.” They have a hard job.
The other awful thing is shes implying that the women who clean her toilets or service workers in general, do not work hard enough to deserve getting to the top. 🤦♀️
Did you expect anything else from a conservative? They simultaneously need a poor working class and to abuse that class on a constant basis for existing.
Funny how the most famous motivational speakers always talk about "coming from the bottom", and their bottom is literally a middle/middle-high class family from the suburbs.
Exactly. And if we just WORK HARD, we can be just like just them! But wait, don't compare yourself to them, because "comparison is the killer of joy"! So if you never achieve even a fraction of their success by just "working hard" then... um... uh... GO WASH YOUR FACE! or something? 🤷🏽♀️
Exactly. It's like people either ignore the more problematic parts of someone or they find it out and then completely dismiss them even if they actually do some good. No one is perfect we all have blindspots and we need to be responsible for them, but idolisation doesn't allow that.
Amen! The only person we should be stans of, should be our own selves! Others - well, respect them, be inspired by them, love, like them - but this whole "make them god" thing, sucks.
Yeah, it probably didn’t mean anything. It was something that her and her husband a while back had brought up in their steps of marriage or whatever. They referred to it as cleaning toilets so I think it’s more of a run on joke than anything else.
as someone with clinical depression the whole toxic positivity and “you choose your happiness and you control your mindset” type thing always just made me feel like it was my fault i was sick. idk it just feels extremely invalidating to hear that they think happiness is a choice cause then what, am i making the choice to be unhappy/depressed?
I admit, I'm a believer of being responsible for my own happiness and to be aware of my mindset. I have encouraged others not to fall passive... But thank you for pointing out clinical depression is far different than circumstantial depression.
clearly their not informed that depression is an illness, not a choice... their immature, ignorant or in denial for their own benefit. best wishes for your comfort and relief.
I was a janitor. The place I worked at was incredibly awful. Horrible management and they still didn’t call me the toilet cleaner. They at least “you’re a housekeeper and we appreciate you.” Smh
@@mrsmobsluvzbooks8558 I also have a chronic illness, somethings are out of our control and could be made to feel shame or guilt trying to “control” the illness to be positive when we don’t feel so. Actually I tried to pretend the illness wasn’t there for years and brushed it aside, this made me get about 10 times worse/ when I finally accepted it I got 10x better. Still I work hard to be just semi ok on a daily basis, and it’s still not all rainbows and butterflies. Chronic illness just isn’t that way. Also hope you can be as well as you can be, knowing that things will not always be good or even ok.
I used to work at the drybar in Austin and she would come in often. She was extremely rude every time and treated us like her servents the entire time she was in the salon. She also likes to insult women based off their appearances. She is not an inspiration, she is a nightmare.

As someone who lives in Utah, the kingdom of cults, Mormons and MLMs, just seeing Hollis' face is triggering. The sheer number of times the Wash Your Face book has been recommended to me here is just💀 One thing I've noticed is how many of the tactics MLMs and motivational speakers use are the same as charismatic cult leaders. It's absolutely fascinating, but also makes me sad. I've seen so many people get sucked in and swindled by the messages the people espouse and it's heartbreaking. Truly an excellent video, 10/10 would recommend.
Mormons are supremely susceptible to cults- they're in a very large one, and so these things that nonMormons find disquieting are par for the course. Its why MLMs are SO rampant here (were family! We're this support, We're here to help) all of which send my skin crawling are these super amazing promises to Mormons.
Can you imagine a place where you have the trifecta of MLMs, Mormons, and Jehovah's Wittnesses ... ... that would be the stuff of the worst possible nightmares, and almost apocalyptic ...
The minute I heard Rachel Hollis, I said "the Mormons are gonna love her." She absolutely personifies that culture. I couldn't live in it. I don't know how you do it. ~hugs
The trying to get you to cut people out of your life that aren't supportive of the MLM, religion, whatever is a gigantic red flag and cult 101. They want to remove all dissenting opinions from your life and make sure they are the only source of truth.
Mormons aren't a cult though. I used to go to church as an active Mormon. The church follows none of the usual patterns that you would see in a cult. For starters, when I decided to leave, I was not "shunned" or hounded. I was just left alone. Same thing when I decided not to pay tithing. Really odd behavior for a cult... try that with scientology. Several times people have stood up in opposition against the current prophet. No excommunications resulted in that or retaliations. Again, odd behavior for a cult.
I really do hate the "you have control over your life no matter what" BS. There are some situations we have ZERO control over. I cannot control being chronically ill. I cannot control having PTSD. I cannot control the fact that other people did things to me to cause my PTSD. I cannot help being kicked out of the country because my ex husband left me and is making me homeless. I cannot control a lot of things, and claiming that the onus is on all of us to be happy and successful in the face of such overwhelming hardship, is victim blaming of the highest order.
I'm so sorry you had to go through such a tough time. I hope things get better and better for you honey. And I agree with you. The thing with that quote is that people believe it just because they're in that hyped up mindspace, usually away from home and desperate to get something out of what they paid for when they were struggling. But as soon as they get home, reality hits them again. Life is never under our complete control and toxic positivity fucks people's mind so bad that they would feel guilty in every situation even for the scars other people have left them with... I went through a phase in which I had no control over my life, I was depressed, stuck in a position I didn't ask to be in and this toxic positivity stuff fucked me up real bad because I was getting obsessed over the little meaningless things I was allowed to control and life was much more intolerable with that mindset. I was sad even when I was successful.
@Killingdance 100%, it's more of an excuse to be an asshole to others and then say "it's not my fault you're upset, you are the only person responsible for your own happiness"
She pretty good at passing on all the blame onto others She takes no responsibility at all. I'm sorry you went through all that. I hope things have improved for you.🌻
Why exactly is "I pay someone else to clean my toilets, are you JEALOUS" a thing? It takes like 10 seconds to clean a toilet. It's the only household cleaning task I volunteer for. It's quick. It's easy. It's not like you're in there scooping poop out barehanded. Why are we supposed to be like "Oh I want someone else to clean my toilet!" Having someone else to vacuum is what I want.
I am not a housekeeper but I was insulted by the way she described having a housekeeper… it’s more than “ cleaning toilets”. She meant to be condescending.
I just want to say that my cleaning people do work that greatly improves my mental health. Because of the work that they do, I am less stressed, better able to work, and happier to see an organized and sanitized living space when I wake up. I can't imagine degrading people who help me so much.
@@user-ib2bt4ck7y its where she talked about her housekeeper in the tiktok that got her the most backlash, obviously she didnt directly insult them but it seems very degrading
I already know I’m going to have to hire someone to clean for me when I have my own place because my ADHD makes it very difficult to keep up with things like that, and it would cause me much more stress than saving money on doing it myself is worth.

I grew up with a single mother who spent a couple of years devoted to trying to make a living off MLMs. She wholeheartedly believed she could in order to spend as much time with me as possible. We were poor to begin with and this is just not a good business model for people who don't have enough capital. But these "empowering" self-starters go around making it seem like it's achievable for everyone when it's a mix of dumb luck, actual work, and LOTS of investing. I spent a whole blazing summer under the sun handing out flyers and sticking them to car windshields and nothing paid off. Now my mother's gone and I'm a 23-year-old hoping to have a shot at some disposable income while renting an apartment and saving up for a car. I'm trying to build credit and do everything right all on my own. My mom had nothing she could leave me in terms of wealth, just plenty of life lessons and for that I'm grateful. That's real starting from the bottom.
These MLM schemes are pure scams and there are tonnes of videos on TH-cam made on this subject P.S. Yes you are starting from the very bottom which makes me respect you more buddy I hope things work out for you really well and we finally have a true self made person people can relate to

My favorite thing about these self-help people is they never actually really tell you how to do the thing they say. "Stop comparing yourself to others"... okay how? "Stop sitting on the couch and get motivated"... okay how? Like in therapy, they give you the tools and the steps to do these things maybe with medication help. But these self-help people don't give you any tools, they just... say things we already know in a motivational and hyped way. It's like therapy without any of the tools, exercises, or workbooks.

I work at a nursing home where one of the main things I do is clean toilets for a living. My family is poor AF. HOWEVER, I earn $20+ an hour and I'd be making $50,000 a year in retirement if I quit today. Not to mention I'm going back to college and I make a bunch of money on the side. So as far as I'm concerned, not wanting to clean their own toilet is just more money in my pocket.

“Most people wont get up at 4am” Last year I got up at 4am everyday to work at a daycare during COVID for $8.20 an hour while still in college. having good work ethic isn’t the reason people are rich and successful. It is due to privilege.

Happy you reminded that it's very hard to be happy when society isn't made for you. As a neurodivergent person myself, I can say that it's very hard and I struggle a lot with motivation since I'm not able to have a job that gives me a fair amount of money and since I have to go to school longer than others my age which also kills my motivation. I feel like I can never do what I want to in life because it'll be very hard for me to earn a fair amount of money. It's also sometimes hard to be happy when you have such sleeping problems and mental health issues that can come with autism. Trust me I am trying to be happier in life but it's also hard when it's so hard to get a therapist after you turn 18 Not saying it's impossible to be happy but it's just harder when society isn't made for you at all. It can give you lots of self hate, depression, anxiety and stress etc

Something that I notice that just rubs me the wrong way is the specific attention to the toilet cleaning, she is not saying that she hires someone to clean her kitchen or bedroom, she states multiple times it's specifically the toilet, its like, "yeah I pay someone to specifically clean the place where I take a sh*t on every day, that's how superior and un-relatable I am".
The other motivational speaker guy was talking about having someone else clean your toilet too. It reminds me of medieval times when the royals would have peasants clean their bed pans.
That's EXACTLY it; to diminish them to only the worst aspect of their job is just fucking gross. Her money and success has completely gone to her head.
True. I wish I could afford a cleaner. Someone to scrub my shower and clean my fridge. My toilet would be far from the priority that's not that hard to clean 🤔
Let me get this straight. So she decided to record herself saying what she said on HER phone and somehow that’s her team’s fault?! Man for someone who preaches that only you are responsible for yourself and fully in control of your own life, she sure doesn’t have an ounce of accountability for her own actions. Strangeee. Like, own it girl boss!
Right?! And she liked what she said SO much that she posted it on multiple platforms thinking she was really the shit. Sure Jan, it’s your teams fault 🙄 lol
I used to work at a secondhand book store and I was wondering why we had BOXES of her books stored in the back and why everyone was selling her books. This made a lot of sense now.
The amount of ableism and classism in these self-help groups is ridiculous. Yes we all live 24 hours each day but some some of us basic life maintenance and work takes up way more time than it does for others
Im coming to this late, but YES. there are days that I literally am in so much pain I can’t get out of bed. I can barely move those days. Not everyone’s 24 hours are created equal.
I was working at a bookstore when “Girl, Wash Your Face!” came out. I just rolled my eyes and inwardly told Rachel not to tell me what to do when I was shelving copies lmao those kinda books give me the heebie jeebies 😂
Just watched 6 minutes, but have to say: THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for saying "It's not that easy to control your own happiness if you are chronically ill and/or neurodivergent", I am both, and I'm only 20 now, and it's like a living hell some days! But most don't acknowledge those things when it comes to mental health. Don't know if you struggle with something like that or have someone close to you, or if you just are very empathic and have set yourself into the different things, but damn I appreciated it, more then I would have thought myself actually💖💖
Having any chronic thing or neurodivergent definitely can make it challenging to control our happiness. But, all we can do is the best we can with what we have.
@@rnbsteenstar This is actually the one thing I see so many people around me doing wrong! Social media exposed all these do goody people as classic narcissists. Ellen DeGeneres, Mykaa Stauffer, Rachel Hollis and so many more. They have been wearing this mask their entire careers.
That video of her telling she doesn’t want to be relatable is her dropping her mask and clearly demonstrating that she looks down on people who are not as wealthy as she is. This while not acknowledging she used her and her husband’s connections and money to finance her business, and implying that poverty is a choice, not the result of deep societal issues. It’s vile.
??? What? How is poverty not a choice? Do addicts not choose to take drugs/gamble? Blaming others won't just not get you anywhere, it'll alienate people that want to help.
@@JJokerMoreau Drug addiction is an illness. Its not illegal to have an addiction. You're thinking of owning banned substances, which some people use while addicted.
So she thinks that she's different and better because she gets up at four am? My father gets up at four am, he's a welder. Half my coworkers are up at four am to work, and I work at Walmart. I seriously can't stand this holier than thou attitude.
Srslly. Different workers sleep differently. Some People already WORK at 4am. When I was a nurseintern I had to stand up around 3am to go to work around 5 am. Now I stand up around 10 because my (currently not doable) job goes far into the night.. Her point is complete moot.
Her celebrating getting up at 4 a.m. is so insane. Many people do just that. Off the top of my head there is an actor who actually gets up at 3 a.m and stays behind long after shooting has ended at 2 a.m., he didn’t even tell anyone one of his co-stars did.
Thank you so much for pointing out that there are many things out of your control that can and will ruin your life. I’ve had a chronic illness since I was 14 which has spiraled my life into a whole mess I can’t control. My issues cause me severe pain that make it difficult to work, difficult to process thoughts and memories, and difficult to feel any sense of self worth. I’ve been seeing doctors for almost a decade, most of which don’t believe that I’m in pain and that I’m only trying to get my hands on opioids so they refuse to diagnose and refuse to give me any direction to make my life meaningfully better. And on top of all that, so much of what you end up hearing from motivational speakers and even people in your family and your life is that “you have to take your life into your own hands” and “have you tried this alternate method of care? Maybe you’re just missing something right in front of you”. Just makes me feel more useless.
Also, something that really bugs me - why repeating again and again that the cleaning lady scrubs her toilet?! I mean, I bet that lady cleans everything, from kitchen to basement to the kids' rooms... so why repeatedly using that specific part of the house? It leaves a bad taste, she must really find that kind of work incredibly beneath herself - it's so off putting.
As a housekeeper if someobody talked about me and my work like that I would drop them. It's so degrading when in the cleaning industry we get crapped on enough
Exactly! She views it as degrading and gets off on that. "See, look at the power I have now! I can make someone do a degrading task so I don't have to." It's such a gross attitude in so many ways and house keepers deserve SO much more respect.
@self345 There’s also something called mirroring. It’s where you subconsciously empathize with another person or group by picking up their mannerisms, word phrasing, or accent. I’m from Upstate NY. We sound like Canadians. However, I now live in the Southeast and have a southern accent. Sometimes, if I say certain words, my Yankeeness is found out, but most of the time I sound as southern as the person I’m talking to.
If you live somewhere long enough you start to adopt an accent. This happened to me when I left my hometown and moved to NJ. It’s a natural thing that happens. I dislike her but the accent thing isn’t necessarily fake.
Just got to say as someone from Bakersfield California, I never heard of this girl in my life. And then this town we're pretty proud of anyone who does something. So the fact that no one in the town even claims her is pretty sad.
You know it's fascinating. I spent so much on therapy that I didn't realize I could stop being depressed by willpower. Imagine that you can just choose not to be depressed. I wish I had known that before self-admitting myself to a mental health hospital. It would have saved me so much money.
Before I retired I had a wonderful lady who kept my household running. She literally did EVERYTHING around my house. I worked between 10 and 12 hours a day with an hour commute each way. Carol was a friend, confidant and role model. She also happened to clean my house, do my laundry, clean out my fridge, ect. I never could have excelled in my career if it hadn’t been for all of Carols work to keep my home running. She is happily retired with her new hubby traveling the world. I miss her terribly… Just my perspective….

This is exactly right. When you have integrity you understand credit for success means responsibility for fuck ups. And vice versa - if you share success, you can share the burden.
When I saw the video of Beyonce and all the hard work she goes through to be the star that she is, I knew that she was truly different because of that effort. Not everyone has that grit. I think that is what Rachel is trying to say. It looks like luck. Or marrying the right man. Or having the right name. But it takes hard, hard hard work. If you don't want to do the work, don't expect the glory. Yes, sometimes , you might just fall into the honeypot. But, real success takes genuine work. An athlete knows. An academic knows. Only a slater thinks differently.
That was Patrisse Cullors/co founder BLM's parting remarks when she resigned to go live in one of her $Million dream homes. "It's all bullshit...just give me your money on behalf of BLM...see ya"!🏰💰💰💰💰👩🏽
Her “Toilet” video is disturbing on multiple fronts. The content itself is bad enough, but the tone of voice and the look in her eyes really gives you a glimpse into her dark soul.
Honestly, I read about the controversy and what she said before I saw the actual video and kind of thought people were overreacting a little. And then I saw the video and was like girl bye.
I think Rachel Hollis's downfall is rooted in the fact that she believed in her own hype. She really did think she built everything herself so it didn't matter what she then said or did. But the wisest business people *never* believe their own hype and remain grounded in the story that they have woven. It's why Elon Musk is becoming more and more despised because people are seeing the cracks in who he are vs. what he says he is.
I believe this to be true. One of the wealthiest men in the world is from my city and he has put an incredible amount of time and money into charitable efforts here. He has said he only got where he did by pure circumstance and luck. He's a very humble man by all accounts and despite him having more personal wealth (even after giving a majority of it away) than most people could ever even dream about, I can't imagine him being so self absorbed and so far up his own ass as this woman is. I also can't imagine him saying this kind of degrading shit about the people who help him keep his life running smoothly (mostly because I know his personal assistant and she wouldn't have put up with it, she was a spitfire haha).
“I’m not the smartest person in the room. I’m not the most business savvy. I’m not the best writer. I’m not the best speaker. Here’s the difference between me and so many other people: I will *outcomment* you.” -Mark Ramos
This is literally one of the best examples of ‘pride before the fall’! In what universe did she believe that claiming the purposeful ‘unrelateability’ of what she’s selling would in any way be good for business. ‘Cause let’s be real - these people only ever sell ‘if I can do it, you can do it’.
Rachel Hollis : "What is it about me that made you think, I want to be relatable?" Also, Rachel Hollis : overexaggerates a Southern accent that didn't seem to come out in her earlier videos to appeal to Southern women.
"I have a lot of experience with crisis, trauma and grief..." not from schooling or education, mind you, but from being the wife of a Disney exec and author apparently makes her an expert. She is "Dr" Phil level of delusional.

"Motivational speakers" who preach this is what irks me most. It's the common religious rhetoric of being met with a struggle within yourself that you cannot control yourself and being told, "Just pray about it." "Just change your mindset." "All you need is willpower." "Just gotta push through." It's so. Incredibly. Self-damaging. Especially when you struggle with mental illness.

I love this video. This is like the 10th time I’ve watched it. Watching companies and influencers/grifters fuck around and find out that the audience is Heisenberg; We are the one who knocks.
I think it is the "I am so much better than most people" vibe that makes her unrelatable. She is not terribly reflective, but she thinks herself qualified to give others advice. I don't think Tubman or Marie Currie rhapsodized over having someone cleaning their toilets for them. Currie lost the man she was going to marry in a tragic accident. Those who have suffered such a loss will find her relatable. I do. Tubman threw herself into the abolitionist movement. She endured the singed social conscience of her day. That makes her relatable. It appears that Hollis works hard to be rich. How nice for her. I worked hard as a teacher and loved helping my students learn. That did not make me rich, but I am proud of the work I did. Yet, I am glad for Hollis, and I don't envy her. I have had a successful career and a successful marriage. I wish her the best, but I can get along quite nicely without her advice.
Maybe because you have a brain of your own, can listen and know what you take in and don't. And I mean haha come on you are relating her to some old school women who are on a whole other level... I get it but I kinda had to laugh a little thinking that was the comparison you went for. Props!
Am I the only one who never get motivated from motivator? my middle school, high school and collage always invite motivator to our campus every year and I never get motivated by them at all.
Same. I get annoyed at motivators telling me what to do. Like there are days when I want to feel like life is sunshine and rainbows, and there are days I feel like the life sucks. You can't tell me life is always sunshine and rainbows 🤣
Nah dude, just listening to these people makes me so angry because what they’re saying is so basic but they go on a long schpeal, and use snappy buzzy phrases like ‘comparison is the death of happiness.’ Or ‘is life happening to you or is it happening for you?’ Those words don’t mean. Anything.
I feel that some use a toxic positivity and just asume everybody have the same problems and background to motivate the audience 😅 If I want to motivate myself without been judge I prefer to go to teraphy instead
You forgot elementary school. Motivational speaking never worked on me either. Every single time they showed up at my school (elementary, middle, and high school) I was one of those students who were so cynical I would roll my eyes.
Its damn hard work, that's for sure. I'm a housekeeper and have been for roughly 10 years. I am very fortunate to work for amazingly kind people though. That makes it worth it. However, if I was the housekeeper Rachel spoke about so condescendingly, I would have been deeply hurt.
She says shes unrelatable yet whenever she’s telling a story during a motivational speech she literally waits for the audience to give auditory feedback for her to know that what she’s saying IS relatable
I particularly enjoyed the whole part on "performative success". It was very interesting and perfectly described what I often feel about influencers but even some people I encounter in my day to day life.
My Aunt , who was not rich, but definitely had a little money in the 90s, had a "cleaning lady"/HouseKeeper my entire life and I always thought it was super bougie but they were legit just friends and my Aunt was a Corporate business lady and my Uncle ran his own Construction Company and they simply just did not have the time (or want to use their extra time) to clean. What I learned though, is that you can have technically "an employee"/housekeeper, whoever, and still treat them like a person/equal. There was never any indication this woman was my Aunt's housekeeper until I literally SAW her cleaning the toilet and was like "Ohhhh,....Carol is the Housekeeper???" . Anyway, great vid
Yeah, here in Mexico the cleaning ladies are fairly common and for a lot of kids they are nannies, despite their job being just clean, in my personal experience form childhood, they are the some sweetiest people I've known.
It’s so common here in the philippines that even middle income earner has one. And most of them are so close that they like part of the family and call each other in first name basis.
right? my neighbor as a kid owned a cleaning service and would come over and help clean in exchange for my stepdad doing home/yard maintence for her. we were not well off by any stretch, but we had 8 kids in the house and both my parents worked full time. she wasn't "the cleaning lady" or "someone who cleaned our toliets," she was just Renée.
I did cleaning for others for many years. I was my own boss, my own hours and time and no interaction with others but my team. Oh and excellent cash tips from my many employers. Lifes peak is not about having some else clean your sh1t.
There will likely always be disrespect for service providers whose work people think they would rather not do. Learning to respect those who work the hardest is an important step in life but one most of us miss. My father was a US Ambassador involved in some very critical international moments, but always tried to treat all people respectfully and kindly. I am nowhere near as successful, but try hard to always remember to do the same. Happiness is not about not being a (enter career); it's taking pride in what you do and doing it well. Of course, enjoying that work and appreciating the intrinsic value of that work is critical.
My mum cleaned houses in the US shortly after she got there in the 80s. She spoke little English and she was praised by her employers. There's nothing bad or degrading about cleaning like so many people make it out to be. I also worked with cleaning staff in hotels in my role as a receptionist. Cleaning staff in a hotel are the most important people!
Her bookshelf also contains only red, white, or blue books all in similar shades. That's all I needed to know to know she never was an everyday, relatable, or sane person
As a non American, this is hilarious. I can't even imagine curating a bookshelf in my country's flag colors. It's tacky. Is this how its like to be Midwestern or Southern? That sounds tiring.
I don’t think its a southern thing either I think its a “look at me im patriotic and relatable like you” thing. Since she seems to have so grip on reality.
In my small town her book was literally treated like a bible for girl boss women. It was crazy… I don’t know how any one listened to her without rolling their eyes or just cringing. I hate her #relatable attitude and how she acts better then everyone.
Who gets up at 4 am? Factory workers, cleaners, grocery store workers, mostly "unglamorous" people Edit: these are just examples, I'm not saying this is EVERYONE who gets up at 4am!!!
I guess I'm really unglamorous because I get up at 0345 to go to the gym on my way to work. Also, we don't need so many glam people, and about 75% of the people you think are glamorous aren't.
Here I am loving this video that showed up in my recommended (cause it's amazing...and well researched...and there are clips of RH I haven't seen before making clear how much her voice and pattern of speech have changed over the years.....) and then my face pops up!! Omg yes love 🥺💜 I thought your sentiments were so well said, and I didn’t even think about that aspect of the book and how it could possibly be preying on vulnerable people during a vulnerable time with the insinuation that reading it will “fix their problems” until you mentioned it, thank you for bringing that to light!
I watched this months ago. I didn't know her husband died of a drug overdose. What a mess. But she is still thriving. This doc seems so updated now. She is just fine in 2023
"What made you think I want to be relatable?" If that wasn't bad enough, I can't get over the look in her eyes. Just pure entitlement and malice. Hollis was really stuck on herself and at the end it showed who she truly was. She's not a relatable girl like you who rose to the top. She's a wealthy woman who was wealthy in the beginning and had the right privileges to make a very profitable career. The truth is ugly and now her stuff can't be sold. Edit: Americans like the whole land of opportunity idea that anyone here can pull themselves up by the bootstraps when they have no money and be a millionaire some day. The "I did it, you can do it too" sells so well and this is what made Hollis famous, she seemed so relatable to her niche market. But when you betray your fans and show them you were selling a lie and profiting off of it, it destroyed what she was trying to get other people to believe. That they too can achieve this much success but instead she showed I'm wealthy I've been wealthy I can't be relatable to you but buy my bandaid solutions books.
I'm glad you mentioned her eyes, I can't recall ever looking into someone's eyes and feeling that talked down to and belittled. She literally exudes evil
The funniest part is that "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps!" was a phrase invented to mock the idea that you can just work your way out of poverty. It's impossible to lift your body's weight by pulling on your bootstrapes, they've literally given you an impossible task. But the rich people who the phrase was made for didn't work in heavy boots, so the metaphor flew over their head and they started saying it unironically
I’ve noticed within my own friend circle that several couples who post constantly about how much they love their partner, how amazing their partner is yadda yadda yadda always end up having a horrible breakup… one friend, her boyfriend she used to rave about tried to kill her. I’ve been married 17 years and I don’t ever post anything about my husband and sometimes felt bad about it but I guess I realized some people who do it are really just over compensating for something or maybe even trying to lie to themselves that things are better than they are. Idk..
I agree @carrie. I don't ever post my fiance and we have a very strong relationship. My friend used to post about the father of her children and their relationship all the time. Now they are broken up and the posts are about how horrible the relationship was lol. I'm not laughing at her situation btw, just the irony.
the best thing one can do is not to post about their relationship on social media, the kind of #blessed posts you see about relationships. coz that's always a cover for problems, and there's nothing wrong with problems in relationships, but don't think we're all falling for that nonsense! good for you for keeping your relationship safe from social media.
There's nothing wrong with posting about how much you love your partner. However I do agree that you can overdo it and can kinda seem love bomby or performative. Don't judge people tho just based on that cus they could just be in the honeymoon case or that's just how they express themselves. Everyone's relationship is different.
I think it's okay to ignore haters, you just have to identify the REAL haters in your life. People who are looking out for you hate the MLM, not you. Your upline on the other hand...

Also thank YOU for your service ❤️ nurses need more love and representation, it always seems like doctors take all of the spotlight, but without nurses like you hospitals wouldnt work either
Honestly I don't know why cleaners aren't put on the same pedestal as nurses and doctors, because they make things function
Bravo what a wonderful way to see things
The other awful thing is shes implying that the women who clean her toilets or service workers in general, do not work hard enough to deserve getting to the top. 🤦♀️
Yes agree, sometimes a service worker may have 2 or 3 jobs just to survive.
Did you expect anything else from a conservative? They simultaneously need a poor working class and to abuse that class on a constant basis for existing.
When she’d imply that? She only talked about herself.
That's really gross cause it's the same people "not working hard enough" that are buying her stuff and using those people as stepping stools.
I've been a cleaning lady before. I am now a teacher, and I am glad that I am, but I can't forget when I had to clean houses simply to get by.
Funny how the most famous motivational speakers always talk about "coming from the bottom", and their bottom is literally a middle/middle-high class family from the suburbs.

Totally agree. I think had she swapped "cleaning my toilet" with "cleaning my house", this wouldn't be a debacle on the scale that it is.

About her “accent” she’s from Bakersfield CA, just like me, we don’t have southern accents. She made the accent up !
And it sounded like it. I live in Tennessee. She sounded like someone trying to sound like what she thinks a southern accent sounds like.
I was thinking the same thing, I used to live in Bakersfield, I was like "what accent??"
Just got to say as someone from Bakersfield California, I never heard of this girl in my life. And then this town we're pretty proud of anyone who does something. So the fact that no one in the town even claims her is pretty sad.

That's not really fair. Sure she's a scummy person, but you are actually allowed to be a Christian AND make hyperbolic jokes about stuff.
There is no god.. no allah.. or anything.. in the beginning there was just coffee!
Oooo good point. Grew up southern Baptist and that sentence in itself is enough to get you shamed in the church
🤣🤣
not a true christian,lo,even i know that and i have zero religion.
This is literally one of the best examples of ‘pride before the fall’! In what universe did she believe that claiming the purposeful ‘unrelateability’ of what she’s selling would in any way be good for business. ‘Cause let’s be real - these people only ever sell ‘if I can do it, you can do it’.
Rachel Hollis : "What is it about me that made you think, I want to be relatable?"
Also, Rachel Hollis : overexaggerates a Southern accent that didn't seem to come out in her earlier videos to appeal to Southern women.
"I have a lot of experience with crisis, trauma and grief..." not from schooling or education, mind you, but from being the wife of a Disney exec and author apparently makes her an expert. She is "Dr" Phil level of delusional.
PS congratulations on the baby you're growing!!
@@christina14089 I'm saying, as a trauma counselor, the experiences she may have with her own crisis', trauma and grief does not come with the education to counsel people through it, as her actions, tiktoks and words in her book clearly show.

And stop with the celebrity worship ; I swear every time a celebrity sneezes people think they are so “brave” and “unique”
@@khanf101 Yes yes yes! Celebrity worship is such a drain on our society. Luke you said there are people right in our communities who could use that level of compassion. Money spent on them would be used far better than someone like RH who feels above us all bc she managed to truck people into giving her money for spewing bs.
I'm convinced that's the ONLY reason Dr Phil and his wife are still together. They literally cannot ever get divorced lest their empire crumbles to the ground.
“Fix your mental space by just- changing your mindset!” Oh yes, allow me to fix my chemical imbalance by thinking better! I’ll just fix my adhd by being like “Nah, adhd be gone!”
"Motivational speakers" who preach this is what irks me most. It's the common religious rhetoric of being met with a struggle within yourself that you cannot control yourself and being told, "Just pray about it." "Just change your mindset." "All you need is willpower." "Just gotta push through."
It's so. Incredibly. Self-damaging. Especially when you struggle with mental illness.
Yeah, my anxiety and anger episodes sprinkled with a bit of melancholy can just disappear rn, if I think of it strong enough. What a dumb thing to believe/promote. I literally struggle daily with myself to function correctly and to not be a burden for my loved ones, I'm not that bad but I tried everything to balance my mindset, it just don't work very well
This rhetoric is so dangerous and offensive. Depression is not a choice

I love this video. This is like the 10th time I’ve watched it. Watching companies and influencers/grifters fuck around and find out that the audience is Heisenberg; We are the one who knocks.
She didn't flip, that was her real face and personality finally showing.
For sure, that insta vid was a mask off moment. Can't be unseen. 🎭
The mask slipped
Absolutely She was the biggest fake. Shame on her.
I think I speak for everyone when I say...
“Gaslight, girl boss, Honda Civic.” - Harriet Tubman
- Rachel Hollis
😂👏 best summary of this video that probably makes no sense to anyone who hasn’t watched it I love it😂💜
OMG 😂😂😂😂 Not Ancestor Harriet ❤️❤️❤️
Spot. Fuckin'. ON!! XD
ok not gonna lie her calling her entire fan base dumb is hilarious
I mean...she's not wrong, but as the saying goes, don't s!!! where you eat. 😂
Nah dude, just listening to these people makes me so angry because what they’re saying is so basic but they go on a long schpeal, and use snappy buzzy phrases like ‘comparison is the death of happiness.’ Or ‘is life happening to you or is it happening for you?’
Those words don’t mean. Anything.
I feel that some use a toxic positivity and just asume everybody have the same problems and background to motivate the audience 😅 If I want to motivate myself without been judge I prefer to go to teraphy instead
I find motivational speakers laughable, and are usually out of touch. Where I come from constant positivity isn’t helpful.
You forgot elementary school. Motivational speaking never worked on me either. Every single time they showed up at my school (elementary, middle, and high school) I was one of those students who were so cynical I would roll my eyes.
I've never worked harder or gotten up earlier than when I cleaned houses for a living
Same!!
I cleaned offices and schools, but yeah, same.
Its damn hard work, that's for sure. I'm a housekeeper and have been for roughly 10 years. I am very fortunate to work for amazingly kind people though. That makes it worth it. However, if I was the housekeeper Rachel spoke about so condescendingly, I would have been deeply hurt.
Cleaned hotel rooms, same
She says shes unrelatable yet whenever she’s telling a story during a motivational speech she literally waits for the audience to give auditory feedback for her to know that what she’s saying IS relatable
All true
One day, I really hope that she just waits and never receives it. Lol.
She's just using these people as fuel, and doesn't care about anything else.
And most of them are so close that they like part of the family and call each other in first name basis.
thats the type of relationship i would want with somebody in my home !
right? my neighbor as a kid owned a cleaning service and would come over and help clean in exchange for my stepdad doing home/yard maintence for her. we were not well off by any stretch, but we had 8 kids in the house and both my parents worked full time. she wasn't "the cleaning lady" or "someone who cleaned our toliets," she was just Renée.
Ummm, they're rich.
I did cleaning for others for many years. I was my own boss, my own hours and time and no interaction with others but my team. Oh and excellent cash tips from my many employers. Lifes peak is not about having some else clean your sh1t.
Luv your comment. Keep on working in a totally necessary and good Job.
Damn, that was so well said
There will likely always be disrespect for service providers whose work people think they would rather not do.
@@czechraiser I always say that it tells a lot about a person how they treat service people.
@@yy-hj4br I'm midwestern American and just looking at it made me tired. Trust me, it is definitely and conservative southern thing.
@@yy-hj4br not a Midwestern thing lol
I don’t think its a southern thing either I think its a “look at me im patriotic and relatable like you” thing. Since she seems to have so grip on reality.
Books by color is peak “show me you don’t read without telling me”
In my small town her book was literally treated like a bible for girl boss women. It was crazy…
I don’t know how any one listened to her without rolling their eyes or just cringing. I hate her #relatable attitude and how she acts better then everyone.
She sounded completely insane on that video. She lost touch with reality.
Who gets up at 4 am? Factory workers, cleaners, grocery store workers, mostly "unglamorous" people
Edit: these are just examples, I'm not saying this is EVERYONE who gets up at 4am!!!
And morning news reporters
People who talk on the radio in the AM
So essential workers.
Me a teacher 👩🏫
I guess I'm really unglamorous because I get up at 0345 to go to the gym on my way to work. Also, we don't need so many glam people, and about 75% of the people you think are glamorous aren't.
"Don't think of it as a pyramid scheme. Think of it as a triangle of opportunity" ------- Don't remember where I heard it but I thought it was funny.
the office? maybe i forget lol
the office 😂😂😂
definitely the Office!!
You mean the Bermuda Triangle of opportunity?
The Office. Great episode.
Here I am loving this video that showed up in my recommended (cause it's amazing...and well researched...and there are clips of RH I haven't seen before making clear how much her voice and pattern of speech have changed over the years.....) and then my face pops up!! Thank you for including my rant!
Her eyes gave me chills when I was looking at them.I think she has a predatory and evil look to them.
Idk..
Well said🙌🏾
I agree @carrie.
Hence why I didn't say much when I was in relationships
There's nothing wrong with posting about how much you love your partner. However I do agree that you can overdo it and can kinda seem love bomby or performative. Don't judge people tho just based on that cus they could just be in the honeymoon case or that's just how they express themselves. Everyone's relationship is different.
"Ignore the haters" = isolate yourself from the people who don't want you to get *scammed by my cult.*
I think it's okay to ignore haters, you just have to identify the REAL haters in your life. People who are looking out for you hate the MLM, not you. Your upline on the other hand...
@@defundhollywood3259 Agree. Sadly, it seems many people have a real hard time discerning hate from genuine constructive criticism/ concern.

Very instructive video! The fake face, the perfomative success and the toxic positivity are explanations for the succes of lots of religious, motivational and business "experts", media celebrities, etc. You just have to shine a little in something, steal phrases from other people, good looks, some skill in marketing and boom! a fake motivator/influencer appears. Rachel Hollis is a great example, fantastic video.
