  • In this episode I am hunting for ancient petroglyphs, left scattered around the volcanic island of Isla de Ometepe by indigenous Indians. I'm also searching for a hidden waterfall in the jungle, which is not so easy to reach!

I was amazed that an 18 year old Nicaraguan girl happens to have ancient petroglyphs in her back garden & gets to be an unofficial tour guide & curator for them whenever a passing tourist knocks on her door & asks about them. It seems like it would be nice for somebody to give her some support & help in her role as their custodian...

@@mikejones8866 Most respectfully: A mistake too many Americans and some foreigners make is applying our social norms where they don't belong, as an example, tipping where tipping is not customary or expected. Sometimes a genuine appreciation and simple thank you is appropriate. Tipping, or overpaying may be no bueno and often culturally inappropriate. I would respect Noraly's understanding of her environment / local culture to make the right decision.

My wife and I were talking about you this morning, (were your ears burning)? Anyway, Kay was saying how incredibly brave you are to go through all these countries on a motorcycle all by yourself. And I have to agree with her. Now I consider myself somewhat of a daredevil as well even at 71 years old. I was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne and also did some skydiving. But my wife and I agree, that what you do, going through all these countries and their borders crossing just takes a lot more nerve that we have. Every morning, one of the first things I do is to check that bell to see if you have another video up. Thanks for all the hours of entertainment.

WHAT A PRIVILEGE!!! How many people of the world will get to see these ancient petroglyphs? Not many. You also had a famous, beautiful guide, Vanessa, living with, protecting and showing these ancient carvings. NORALY!!! How wonderful was that? You are so fortunate. Yes, a shower in that marvelous waterfall was a refreshing must. To me, that waterfall would mean hydro-electricity. A dam wouldn’t be necessary, just a pipe, water wheel and a generator…and a battery with LEDs in the house. Life sustaining, healing, delicious trees and plants everywhere. Heaven on earth…WOW…SMH, I hope your guide’s family will study and stay there, healthy and happy forever. Careful, too much coconut water is a laxative. Learned how to open, drink and eat coconut in Hawaii. This adventure was so much fun, so incredibly interesting. I am truly grateful to you for sharing. Texas

That cacao brings back old happy memory. We used to have around 10 cacao trees in our backyard. Then we picked the cacao fruits/pods and ate the white flesh coating of the bean. Then we gather the beans and dry it up under the sun for days. Once dried, my mom roasted the beans. Then roasted beans will be fed into a small mill machine to produce raw and thick chocolate. That's the real dark chocolate and when you eat it you'll have like a drunk feeling :-)

Noraly, I just recently found your videos, and can I tell you that I am fascinated by you. when I am having a bad day, I come home and watch a couple of your videos and soon I am living vicariously through you. You are doing what I should have done, when I was young enough to actually do them, but I was not brave enough. Thank you for what you do, and I must tell you, you have the greatest laugh I have ever heard.

Itchy boots.. Today's episode is a revelation to me from the southern top of India.. Nicaragua :what a similarity in the foliage and plants growing there .. The plants & fruits are exactly what we have here in Kerala in India..those Small Bananas with square edges, Jack fruit (it was declared state fruit of kerala recently ), coconuts (kerala literally means land of coconuts) star fruit, turmeric, cocoa, passion fruits.. There must be strange connection between these two places across the globe.. Kerala & Nicaragua.. It just can't be a coincidence .. Whew..

Same in Assam. Except d Cacao, everything else there is also common in Assam & NE India, looked like a typical rural Assamese backyard garden.

To be honest jack fruits are not common in the country. The other fruits are certainly common. Obviously the cacao is common since it has been used from ancient times, along Mexico, Central America and northern South America. FAO has help introduce a wide variety of foreign fruits.

A refreshing change of pace with Indiana Jones style, and covers a lot of local ground, without riding far. You deserve reliable internet and plenty of fresh fruit. When you hit a million, you should do an episode sitting in a chair on the beach, with a tall, cold glass.

Your trip to the waterfall was amazing - glad you were able to shower in the pretty waterfall and get through the trail. Gorgeous scenery and great pictures. A fun tour of the place you stayed at and a tour of all the fruits, bananas, and coconuts on the property. You found a cool place to stay. Thanks for sharing and stay safe!

Nice roads! When I first visited Ometepe in 2005, the paving stones were just being laid near the port. All of the roads were rough and I had the lucky seat with my brother in the back of a truck bed. Ugh, I was so motion sick.

As a Costarican, I ate jack fruit (although not at all a common part of the regular diet), assorted varieties and preparations of bananas (guineo, plátano maduro, patacón), passion fruit drink, coconut water, pineapple and citrus; just in the past few days, but seeing Noraly describe those same plants and the fruits is a fascinating experience. Ometepe is a place worth experiencing more than once. It goes back into the bucket list.
